  • This study was conducted to identify the correlation between the school-life stress, depression and college adjustment of dormitory residents, in order to provide the basic data needed to establish a strategy to improve the adjustment of college students. The subjects were 210 students in Korea. The data were collected using a self-report questionnaire from September 13 to 19, 2014, and analyzed by frequency, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation using the SPSS Win 21 program. The school-life stress, depression and college adjustment of the students residing in the dormitory on a 5-point scale were 2.43, 1.88 and 3.81, respectively. School-life stress had a significant positive correlation with depression (r=.639, p<.001) and significant negative correlation with college adjustment (r=-.709, p<.001). Depression had a significant negative correlation with college adjustment (r=-.788, p<.001). Those students with a higher school-life stress showed higher levels of depression and lower levels of college adjustment. Those students with a higher level of depression showed a lower level of college adjustment. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and test a suitable program in order to understand the differences between psychological adjustment based on gender, and to decrease school-life stress and depression and increase college adjustment.

  • The purpose of the study was to evaluate patients' compliance with the hemodialysis and to investigate relationships between compliance, physiological parameters, and health-related quality of life. Data were collected from 220 patients at 27 local hemodialysis clinics. Compliance was measured with Sick-role Behavioral Compliance including interdialytic weight gain, serum potassium, and phosphorus. Health-related quality of life was assessed using Medical Outcomes Study Short Form-12. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation. Total compliance scored 2.92 out of 4 points on average. Among fifteen items, 'I keep on my dialysis schedule(time and date)' was the highest score. There were differences in the scores for compliance according to age, marital status, and dialysis period. Statistically significant correlations were found between four compliance items(medication, infection control, sleep, eating vegetable and fruit) and health-related quality of life. The results of the study indicate that a patient-centered approach would be helpful to improve quality of life in patients with hemodialysis. Healthcare providers need to understand the patients' perspectives by identifying what is important to patients and taking patient values and priorities into account.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the FA(faractional anisotropy) and ADC(apparent diffusion coefficient) values, which were derived from diffusion tensor imaging in breast cancer patients. The diffusion gradient used in this study was derived from quantitative diffusion indices using 20 directions(b-value, 0 and $1,000s/mm^2$). Quantitative analysis was analyzed using Pearson's correction and qualitative analysis using for correction coefficients. As a result, $FA_{min}$, $FA_{mean}$ and $FA_{max}$ were $0.098{\pm}0.065$, $0.302{\pm}0.142$ and $0.634{\pm}0.236$, respectively(p > 0.05). The $ADC_{min}$, $ADC_{mean}$ and $ADC_{max}$ were $0.741{\pm}0.403$, $1.095{\pm}0.394$ and $1.530{\pm}0.447$, respectively(p > 0.05). The $FA_{min}$, $FA_{mean}$, and $FA_{max}$ mean values were $0.132{\pm}0.050$, $0.418{\pm}0.094$, and $0.770{\pm}0.164$ for Category 6 and Kinetic Curve Pattern III, respectively. $ADC_{min}$, $ADC_{mean}$, and $ADC_{max}$ were $0.753{\pm}0.189$, $1.120{\pm}0.236$, and $1.615{\pm}0.372$, respectively. Quantitative analysis showed negative correlation between $ADC_{mean}-FA_{mean}$ and $ADC_{max}-FA_{max}$(p = 0.001, 0.003). The qalitative analysis showed ADC 0.628(p = 0.001), FA 0.620(p = 0.001) in the internal evaluations, ADC 0.677(p = 0.001), FA 0.695(p = 0.001) in external evaluations. In conclusion, based on the morphological examination, time to signal intensity graph is the form of wash-out(pattern III) in the dynamic contrast enhance examination, As a result, the $ADC_{mean}$ $1.120{\pm}0.236$ and $FA_{mean}$ values were $0.032{\pm}0.142$ with a negative correlation (Y=1.44-1.12X). Therefore, If we understand the shape of time to signal intensity graph and the relationship between ADC and FA, It will be a criterion for distinguishing malignant diseases in breast cancer.

  • The internal erosion due to poor compaction of the material was the main cause of collapse of the embankment in Korea. The assessment of the compaction state of the dam body was a very important check in the safety diagnosis of the embankment. In this study, the correlation between dynamic cone penetration test and plate loading test which is the most typical compaction evaluation technique was analyzed to verify the applicability of the dynamic cone penetration test in evaluating the compaction state of the dam body. The standard penetration tests were carried out six times to define soil properties and depth of the test site. The spatial distributions were obtained by the Kriging method after 15 times of plate loading tests and 47 times of dynamic cone penetration tests. The Pearson correlation coefficient between the spatial distribution of the plate loading test and the dynamic cone penetration test spatial distribution at the constant penetration depth was calculated. The load distribution in the plate loading test and the blow counts at penetration depths of 5 cm, 10 cm and 15 cm in the dynamic cone penetration test showed a weak positive correlation.

  • Objectives : Parental behavior is related to personality development and ego resilience in the childhood. The objective of this study was to identify the influence of parental behavior on ego resilience in Korean middle school student. Methods : Subjects were selected based on stratified multi-stage cluster sampling in Korea youth panel study 2013(Boy : N=1,075, Girl : N=1,033). We used Parental behavior inventory(PBI) to estimate parental behavior and the Ego resilience scale to estimate ego resilience. The data were statistically analyzed using a Pearson correlation analysis and regression analysis with the statistical package for the social sciences(SPSS). We considered differences to be significant when p<0.05. Results : A regression analysis showed that rational explanation, affection, Interest and inconsistency of the parental behavior domains influence ego resilience. Also rational explanation, affection and Interest of the parental behavior domains showed a significant positive correlation with ego resilience(r=0.24, r=0.31, r=0.22, p<0.01). In contrast to early childhood studies, inconsistency showed no significant correlation. Conclusions : Adolescents who had taken more rational explanation, interest and affection from their parents were more likely to have higher ego resilience. However, inconsistency of parental behavior showed no correlation with ego resilience of adolescents, which means that they are affected by several other factors than parental behavior. This study would be a basic research that could be a help to psychosocial approach in pediatric psychiatry.
