  • In this paper, we describe capstone-related courses in the Computer information department of Dongyang-Mirae University and propose a capstone design model for computer engineering discipline based on operating experiences during the last year. Class schedules and contents, etc are presented from the case studies of two courses on system analysis and design and graduation work(capstone design) opened in 2015. Towards the successful operation of capstone design targeted to training practical and talented professionals with creative problem-solving skills, we propose six execution steps along with principal activities and outputs: Course plan, Project plan, Development, Reporting, Evaluation of students and coursework, and Course feedback. The capstone design model of this study is characterized by presenting the necessity and importance of pre and post steps such as 'Course Plan' and 'Course reflux' from a macroscopic view and by applying software engineering techniques such as prototyping, configuration managements, etc to it.

  • It's necessary to judge between success and failure of a project in order to secure the objective evaluation index and the transparency of that. In case of the public works including a construction section, the large-scale budget input proceeds, but the awareness regarding the efficiency and usefulness of the public works is decreasing because it's hard to estimate benefit originated from the results of the budget input. Therefore, this study is to propose the measurement standard for the post-evaluation based on the list of the resident response degree and user satisfaction degree to systematically and quantitatively measure the results of the post-evaluation for the public projects within the range of quantifying the consumer satisfaction degree for the facilities which preform the post-evaluation among the public projects with 50 billion budget.

  • Construction projects are often large in magnitude and high in construction amount. Therefore, construction activities have great impacts on business economics and social lives in the surrounding regional area. The residents can have public grievances if they are badly affected by the construction activities. Project owners should try to minimize adverse impacts in planning and design as well as in construction. The objective of this paper is to establish a public grievance breakdown structure and apply this breakdown structure to improving design functions in an effort to minimize public grievances. This research has been done in three steps of 1) analyzing the characteristics of public grievances in construction projects; 2) developing a public grievance breakdown structure; and 3) based on the public grievance breakdown structure, generating design alternatives that can improve the preparedness against public grievances. A case study has been done to demonstrate the applicability of the public grievance breakdown structure in generating design alternatives to minimize public grievances.

  • Prediction of construction cost in the planning stage that provides basic information for feasibility study, budgeting, and planning is an important factor for successful project execution. In this study, a prediction model was developed for the purpose of improving the accuracy of estimating the construction cost of Hanok in the planning stage. The cost of this model is estimated by two methods. First, the cost of wood work, which accounts for the largest portion of the total construction cost, is estimated by calculating the approximate quantity under various conditions (structure type, roof type, plane type, etc.). Second, the cost of the rest work sections except the wood work is estimated by using the unit cost model. The predictive model was verified by two case projects, and the error rate of total construction cost was -4%(case 1) and -6%(case 2). These results showed an error rate in the range that can be applied to practice in the planning stage.

  • Recently BIM technology has been expanded for using in construction project. Due to the high-cost of BIM infrastructure development, lack of regulations, lack of process and so forth, usage of BIM has been delayed than initial expectations. In design phase, especially, collaboration based on BIM system has been a key factor for successful next generation building project. Through the analysis of current research trends about IT technologies, virtualization and BIM service, data exchange such as drawings, 3D model, object data, properties using cloud computing and virtual server system is defined as a most successful solution. The purpose of this study is to enable the cloud computing BIM server to provide several main functions such as editing models, 3D model viewing and checking, mark-up and snapshot in high-performance quality by proper design of VDI system. Concurrent client connection performance is a main technical index of VDI. Through testing of test-bed server client, developed VDI system's multi-connect control is evaluated. Performance-test result of BIM server VDI effect to development direction of cloud computing BIM service for commercialization.

  • In the domestic construction industry, large-scale housing construction projects are being carried out by construction companies with competitiveness in the domestic top 10, it is said that the competence of the construction engineer is a factor for the success of the project. In Korea, there is National Competency Standards (NCS) that systematize contents of knowledge, technology, and attitude required in order to perform job in industrial field as the importance of individual ability is systemized in the country. Therefore, in this study, defined the detail competence in construction administration works, and examined the level of competence and degree of impotance detailed competency of construction engineers using AHP analysis & ANOVA. As a result, it was found that the current capacity of the Engineers in the apartment construction work is insufficient compared to the level of the competence they think they have, and that they have different competencies depending on their work experience and job position. This means that if the career is accumulated, the capacity that is possessed naturally will be changed. Therefore, it will be necessary to improve the capacity of the construction engineers who have a short work experience and a low job level.

  • To develop large-scale complex systems, many organizations have attempted to improve the processes specified in systems engineering (SE) and project management (PM) by adopting CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration). On the other hand, most domestic organizations that already acquired CMMI level 3 have focused on SE&PM practices while providing less investment in building up the environment for institutionalizing those processes. In such organizations, the process maturity without advancing to institutionalization can be neither enhanced nor maintained. To resolve the problem, the following remedies can be suggested. A standard process should first be defined to meet the business mission of the organization and to carry out the process successfully, the people should be properly trained and the appropriate tools be provided. In this study, a maturity model to accomplish institutionalization was examined based on the aforementioned P-P-T (Process-People-Tool) concept. The model proposed would be useful in developing strategies and plans for process institutionalization when the organizations are in the preparation stages for a CMMI certificate or have already acquired one.

  • In construction project, an error in quantity information immediately leads to an error in the quotation, highly reliable quantity calculation is required for successful performance of a project. But there is a difficulty in the current situation for the person in charge to review all calculation sheets for quantity review as the quotation work has to be performed in a short period of time. Accordingly, it is thought that a review plan is required to secure reliability on calculated results and the review plan should be able to be carried out within insufficient quotation periods. In the present paper, it is intended to present a plan that enables quantity to be reviewed with the minimum number of persons within the shortest period of time through an algorithm of calculating a verification quantity. The suggested algorithm allows the result of quantity calculation work carried out earlier based on 2-dimensional drawing to be compared, not with an accurate quantity, but within an error range.

  • According to a recent study, most construction companies in Korea do not manage risk effectively, and it is judged that the risk management system needs to be improved. In addition, most risk-related studies deal with risks from a macroscopic perspective, and there are few studies dealing with process risks at the project construction stage. Therefore, this study tried to suggest a risk response plan through analysis and classification of risk factors that may occur in retaining work among process risks. To this end, a workshop was held for risk experts to identify and analyze risks that may occur during the construction of retaining work for apartments. As a result of the study, it was expected that savings of KRW 4.97 billion would be possible in the 95 % confidence interval, and the maximum possible cost was reduced from KRW 15 billion to about KRW 10 billion. Based on the risk reduction ratio, it was found that risks that can be reduced without any special input cost, risks with large effects in response to risks, and risks with insignificant effects were found. Therefore, using the types and risk factors presented in this study as guides, it is expected that it will be helpful in successfully operating the project if an appropriate response strategy is prepared and systematically responded to the site conditions.
