Improvement of the characteristics and fabrication of a planar waveguide lens (평면 광도파로 렌즈의 제작 및 특성 개선)

  • In this paper, we propose a new type of a planar waveguide lens, a meniscus lens instead of a plano-convex lens used widely for the optical integrated circuits such as optical numerical processors. A plano-convex lens has a spherical aberration caused by the linear boundary. In the proposed meniscus lens, this linear boundary is replaced by a circular-boundary, and the spherical aberration is removed. To test the performance of the proposed lens, a meniscus lens is designed using Fermat principle and fabricated on the Y-cut $LiNbO_3$ substrate. First a $Ti:LiNbO_3$ planar waveguide is fabricated on the $LiNbO_3$ substrate by Ti indiffusion. Then a meniscus lens is fabricated on the planar waveguide by TIPE(Ti indiffued proton-exchange) method. A plano-convex lens is also fabricated on the same substrate to compare the spot size at the focal point. The measured spot size of the meniscus lens is reduced to 59% that of the plano-convex lens. This result shows that the proposed meniscus lens is more effective for optical integrated circuits than the plano-convex lens.

Design of Time-varying Sliding Surface for Higher-order Uncertain Systems (고차 불확실 시스템을 위한 시변 슬라이딩 평면의 설계)

  • In this paper, we present a new sliding surface with a time-varying repeated root for fast and robust tracking of higher-order uncertain systems. The repeated root is moved to target one with stabilizing the closed-loop time-varying system in sliding mode. This initial root is obtained so that shifting distance of the surface may be minimized with respect to an initial error, and the intercept is produced so that the surface may pass the initial error. Under the allowable input, fast shifting of the surface and movement of the repeated root enable the error convergence rate to be increased. The proposed sliding mode control makes the error always remain on the surface from the beginning, and therefore, the system is more insensitive to parameter uncertainties and external disturbances. In simulation, the effectiveness of the proposed method is proved by comparison with the conventional one.

  • The plane curve approach which was proposed by Boukharouba et. al. is a multi-threshold selection method through searching peak-valley based on histogram cumulative distribution function. However the method is required to select parameters to compose plane curve, and the shape of plane curve is affected according to parameters. Therefore detection of peak-valley is effected by parameters. In this paper, we propose an entropy maximizing-based method to select optimal plane curve parameters, and propose a multi-thresholding method based on the selected parameters. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by multi-thresholding experiments on various images and comparison with other conventional thresholding methods based on histogram.

Development of Horizontal Alignment Information System of Road Using Digital Photogrammetry (수치사진측량을 이용한 도로평면선형정보체계 개발)

  • Lately, Digital Photogrammetry has been increasingly applied to various hightech industries and becomes one of more interesting focuses of study than ever. Thus, this study aims to develop a Road Horizontal Alignment Information System by means of digital photogrammetry. Data acquired from digital photographic techniques were processed using Delphi, an object oriented programming language to develop a computer aided program, that allows us to build the information on Road Horizontal Alignment(Beginning Point of Curve, Ending Point of Curve, Radius, Intersection Point). The developed program could maximize visualization for better analysis compared with traditional programs because it utilizes many image data. Comparing with data from traditional horizontal alignment extraction programs based on the principle of least square method, the data acquired by Horizontal Alignment Information and kinematic GPS showed out of the developed road information systems the improved accuracy of IP value up to about 2m in the direction of X, Y axes, where the accuracy of curve radius(R) becomes enhanced up to about 2.5 m.

  • A new method for local control of arbitrary scattered data interpolation in the hyperbolic plane is developed in this paper. The issue associated with local control is very critical in the interactive in the interactive design field. Especially the suggested method in this paper could be effectively applied to the interactive shape modeling of genus-N objects, which are constructed on the hyperbolic plane. Since the effects of the changed data affects only the limited area around itself, it is more convenient for end-users to design a genus-N object interactively. Therefore, by improving the global interpolation on the hyperbolic plane where the genus-N object is constructed, this research is aiming at the development and implementation of the local interpolation on the hyperbolic plane. It is implemented using the following process. First, for localizing the interpolating functions, the hyperbolic domain is tessellated into arbitrary triangle patches and the group of adjacent triangle patches of each data point is defined as a sub-domain. On each sub-domain, a weight function is defined. Last, by blending of three weight functions on the overlapped triangles, local MQ interpolation is completed. Consequently, it is compared with the global MQ interpolation using several sample data and functions.

  • Buried Channel MOS 트랜지스터에서의 미소전류(Subthreshold Current)를 2차원 평면에서 Poisson 방정식과 연속 방정식을 Interactive 하게 적용함으로써 계산하였다. 계산 결과를' 실험 결과와 비교하였고 미소 전류 영역에서는 두 결과가 비교적 잘 일치하고 있음을 보였다.

  • This study compares the space depth and layout of a modern apartment floor plan (MAFP) and the standard floor plan of traditional Korean houses (STKHs), which has preserved the traditional beauty of Korea. Space Syntax was applied to compare the MAFP and STKH. The space within MAFP was more divided into many spaces than the STKH. In both types of floor plans, the living room space had the highest degree of integration and was used for central functions in the each floor plan. The STKH and the space in the MAFP have more segregated space than integrated space. In the STKH, the master bedroom and other rooms were found to be segregated space. However, the master bedroom of the MAFP was highly integrated space. The function of the thet maru has been greatly reduced in the STKH, and the numaru was classified as a highly segregated space. The evacuation space was the most segregated space in the MAFP. The STKH has been adapted and changed according to the trends of the times, and the MAFP reflects our traditional living habits.

  • In this paper, we propose a nonlinear 3D image correlator using computational reconstruction of 3D images based on integral imaging. In the proposed method, the elemental images for reference 3D object and target 3D object are recorded through the lens array. The recorded elemental images are reconstructed as reference plane image and target plane images using the computational integral imaging reconstruction algorithm and the nonolinear correlation between them is performed for object recognition. To show the usefulness of the proposed method, the preliminary experiments are carried out and the experimental results are presented compared with the conventional results.

  • Plane-strain fatigue crack growth behavior of 7075-76 aluminium alloy was investigated by using side-grooved through-thickness center cracked tension(CCT) specimens. The effect of side-groove on the stress intensity factor value was examined. The effective thickness expression of $B_{e}$= $B_{o}$-( $B_{o}$-( $B_{ o-B_{n}^{2}}$ $B_{o}$ is the most appropriate to evaluate the stress intensity factor of side-grooved CCT specimen for fatigue testing. Fatigue crack growth rates can be well described by the effective stress intensity factor range based on closure measurements, for both side-grooved and uniform thickness specimens. Provided that the thickness of specimen meets the requirements for valid plane-strain fracture toughness, uniform thickness specimen data may be assumed to approximately represent the plane strain through-thickness crack growth behavior.ehavior.r.

Estimation of the Design Elements in the Horizontal Alignment Using Generalization Method (일반화방법을 이용한 도로 평면선형제원의 추정)

  • Nowadays, the first design elements of horizontal alignment are very important things to extension or improvement of highway. When the design elements ale lost or damaged, it is necessary to recalculation. In this paper, an investigation is made on the method of representation of horizontal alignment as a result of design element using generalization method. The results show that northing calculated about 0.2∼5 meters and easting calculated about 1∼40 meters between calculated and design data. Because the maximum value is a very small compared to total horizontal alignment length. calculated data have been fined to presentation of observed highway.
