  • In this study, we investigated the characteristics of the PCK components in the chemistry units of middle school science teacher's guidebooks developed under the 2009 Revised National Curriculum. The analysis of the results revealed that the sub-components of topic-specific strategies, vertical articulation, and lesson objectives were systematically handled in most teacher's guidebooks. However, subject-specific strategies, assessment methods, and curricular changes were mainly dealt with only in the general guidelines. Experiments and inquiries, assessment questions, and assessment dimensions were lack of constructivist approaches in the aspect of presented contents or forms. Horizontal articulation and knowledge of students were either lacked in relevant content or presented in the form of simple presentation. Concepts and theories accounted for the largest proportion of teachers' guidebooks, but some of them were beyond appropriate levels. On the bases of the results, the implications for the development of the teacher's guidebooks are discussed.

  • In this study, the piezoresistive properties of cementitious composites enhanced with carbon nanotubes for improved electrical conductivity were analyzed using a deep learning-based transformer algorithm. Experimental execution was performed in parallel for acquisition of training data. Previous studies on mixture design, specimen fabrication, chemical composition analysis, and piezoresistive performance testing are also reviewed in this paper. Notably, specimens in which fly ash substituted 50% of the binder material were fabricated and evaluated in this study, in addition to carbon nanotube-infused specimens, thereby exploring the potential enhancement of piezoresistive characteristics in conductive cementitious materials. The experimental results showed more stable piezoresistive responses in specimens with fly-ash substituted binder. The transformer model was trained using 80% of the gathered data, with the remaining 20% employed for validation. The analytical outcomes were generally consistent with empirical measurements, yielding an average absolute error and root mean square error between 0.069 to 0.074 and 0.124 to 0.132, respectively.

  • For effective power generation with fuel cells in low-oxygen environments such as submarines and unmanned underwater vehicles, a hydrogen source which has a high hydrogen storage density is required. Diesel fuel is easy to storage and supply due to its liquid phase and it has a high density per unit volume and unit mass of hydrogen that required for driving the fuel cells. In this paper, diesel fuel was selected as a hydrogen source for driving the fuel cell in oxygen lean environments. In addition, the aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution was suggested as an alternative oxidant for hydrogen production through the diesel reforming reaction because of its high oxygen density and liquid phase which makes it easy to storage. In order to determine the characteristics of hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant of diesel reforming, comparative experiments were conducted and it was found that hydrogen peroxide solution has the same characteristics when reformed with oxidants of both steam and oxygen. Moreover, the commercial diesel reforming performances were analyzed according to the reaction temperature and concentration of aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution. Then, through the 49 hours accelerated degradation tests, the possibility of hydrogen production via diesel and aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution was confirmed.

  • The aim of the present study is to explore the possibility of utilizing loess and fly ash as well as activated carbon for the adsorptive removal of PCBs in transformer oil. Here, we investigated the effect of various factors such as temperature (5, 25, 55), contact time (30 min-3 day) and adsorbent does (1, 2.5, 5, 10 g) in detail. It was found that PCBs adsorption rate from transformer oil by activated carbon is more favored than loess at the equilibrium time of 60 minutes. The equilibrium data for both activated carbon and loess is fitted well to the Freundlich isotherm model. The rate constant and activation energy of PCBs adsorption in transformer oil on each adsorbent was analyzed by fitting a kinetic model at 5, 25 and $55^{\circ}C$. From the thermodynamic parameters, the PCBs adsorption process for transformer oil/activated carbon and loess system is spontaneous and endothermic in nature.

  • This study investigated science education experts' perception of remote laboratory sessions (RLS) provoked by the COVID-19 pandemic. We conducted a total of 10 semi-structured interviews with experts in physics, chemistry, biology, and earth science education. As a result, science education experts primarily understood the RLS concerning pre-service teacher education and reconsidered the aim and goal of conventional laboratory education. On practices of RLS provoked by the COVID-19, they pointed out the learning loss due to deficiency of hands-on experience, decreased interactions between instructor and students, and instructors' increased burden. Meanwhile, they contemplated upon their adaptive implementation of RLS to suggest ways to improve RLS instruction and directions of post-COVID-19 science education. We recommend that RLS should be understood as a complemented version of minds-on teaching rather than a degraded version of hands-on teaching to elicit its full potentials. This study has its own significance providing an in-depth science educational perspective interpreting the RLS phenomena.

  • Raman spectroscopy is an optical technique that can identify molecules in a label-free manner, and is therefore heavily investigated in various areas ranging from biomedical engineering to materials science. Probe-based Raman spectroscopy can perform minimally invasive chemical analysis, and thus has potential as a real-time diagnostic tool during surgery. In this study, Raman experimentation was calibrated by examining the Raman shifts with respect to the concentrations of chemical substances. Raman signal characteristics, targeted for normal mice and cerebral tissues of the 5xFAD dementia mutant model with accumulated amyloid beta plaques, were measured and analyzed to explore the possibility of diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. The application to the diagnosis of dementia was cross-validated by measuring Raman signals of amyloid beta. The results suggest the potential of Raman spectroscopy as a diagnostic tool that may be useful in various areas of application.

  • This study presents modified microfluidic picoinjector combined Faraday moat with silver nanoparticle electrode to increase electrical efficiency and fabrication yield. We perform simple dropping procedure of silver nanoparticles near the picoinjection channel, which solve complicate fabrication process of electrode deposition onto the microfluidic picoinjector. Based on this approach, the microfluidic picoinjector can be reliably operated at 180 V while conventional Faraday moat usually have performed above 260 V. Thus, we can reduce the operation voltage and increase safety. Furthermore, the microfluidic picoinjector is able to precisely control injection volume from 7.5 pL to 27.5 pL. We believe that the microfluidic picoinjector will be useful platform for microchemical reaction, biological assay, drug screening, cell culture device, and toxicology.

  • The primary purpose of this study was to investigate high school students' conceptual understanding of density for solids and liquids in pure and mixed substances who had preceded formal school science instruction on density and related topics. A concept assessment on density was developed and administered by demonstrative experiments accompanied by a written assessment test method to 120 general high school students in a metropolitan city. The scientific conceptions and alternative conceptions from students' responses were identified and the percentages of them were calculated. Then, their alternative conceptions and implicit theories on density were analyzed. About half of the students couldn't differentiate weight-volume-density and regarded density as an innate property of matter. Furthermore, the greater the number of variables involved in an experimental condition of the question, the more complicated and undifferentiated students' density concepts were. Students employed more improper variables such as particle size, intermolecular distance, surface tension, polarity of the solvent, etc. in explaining counter-intuitive observations. The implications for school science instruction were discussed.

  • The phase changes of 1-palmitoyl-$d_{31}$-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphatidylcholine (POPC_$d_{31}$) bilayers distorted by an antimicrobial peptide, a magainin 2 or an aurein 3.3 were investigated by using $^2H$ solid-state NMR (SSNMR) spectroscopy. From the theoretical simulation of the experimental $^2H$ solid-state NMR spectra the geometric structure constants and the lateral diffusion coefficients were obtained in the peptide-lipid mixture phases. Within five days of the peptide action on the lipid bilayers only the distorted alignment of the bilayers were measured but after 100 days an elliptic toroidal pore structure and an inverted hexagonal phase were formed in the presence of magainin 2 and aurein 3.3, respectively. In order to investigate the effect of an anionic lipid molecule on the actions of two peptides on the lipid bilayer, the same experiments were performed on the POPC_$d_{31}$/1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphatidylglycerol (POPG) bilayer and the significant differences in the actions of two peptides on two bilayers of POPC_$d_{31}$ and POPC_$d_{31}$/POPG were measured.
