  • This paper presents the results of an analytical investigation pertaining to the elastic local buckling behavior of asymmetric edge stiffened orthotropic open section structural member under uniform compression. The asymmetric edge stiffener is considered as a beam element neglecting its torsional rigidity. We suggested the analytical model of asymmetric edge stiffeners which is composed of a strip of flange plate, equal width of edge stiffener, and a plate attached at the flange end, and computed the moment of inertia of the stiffener about an axis through the centroid of the ensuing cross-section. Using the derived equation, the local buckling coefficients of asymmetrically edge stiffened orhtotropic I-section columns are predicted and the results are presented in a graphical form.

  • Via screw theory, a vibration mode can be geometrically interpreted as a pure rotation about the vibration center in a plane and as a twisting motion on a screw in a three dimensional space. In thi s paper, applying the conditions that can be used to diagonalize the stiffness matrix by a parallel axis congruence transformation, the vibration modes and frequency response of an elastically suspended optical disc drive have been analyzed. It is first shown that the system has one plane of symmetry, which enables one to decouple the complicated vibration modes into two sets of modes independent of each other. Having obtained the analytical solutions for the axes of vibrations, the frequency response for a given applied input force has been demonstrated. Most importantly, it has been explained that this research result could be used in the synthesis process of a linear vibration system in order to improve the frequency response.

  • Today, many studies are progressed about source of vibration oscillator in reinforcement concrete structures. Source of vibration oscillator is load when it is happen from walking inhabitant. It is transmitted to another inhabitant through reinforcement concrete plate, and it is type of elastic wave. Those descriptions are ram wave and primary wave, secondary wave, and the are through the surface and inside plate. Analysis studies of those waves are used to piezoelectric materials. But, they are difficult to 3 axial type of transmitting elastic wave in concrete element. In this study, a fundamental study for source estimations of vibration oscillator using micro accelerometer are discussed.

  • Recently, nematic and nematic-cholesteric mixtures of substances have been discovered which have stimulated progress in electronics research and industry. In the liquid crystalline state, compounds with nematic mesopheses possess the ability to scatter light, depending on the strength of an applied electric field. The rewaking of interest in this fascinating but long-neglected area has occasioned the introduction of the subjects at the situation of the chemists. Since 1888 year, approximately 2000 compounds have been found to possess the unusual properties of what are commonly referred to as liquid crystals. In this paper, a comprehensive review will not be attempthed here. Nevertheless, some general information necessary to familarize the reader with rather exotic field will facilitate an understanding of the new effect and its application.

  • The propagation of coherent time-harmonic elastic SH waves in a medium with random distribution of cylindrical inclusions is studied for characterizing the dynamic elastic modulus and the attenuation property of fiber-reinforced composite materials. A multiple scattering theory using the single scattering coefficients in conjunction with the Lax's quasicrystalline approximation is derived and from which the dispersion relation for such medium is obtained. The pair-correlation functions between the cylinders which are needed to formulate the multiple scattering interaction between the cylinders are obtained by Monte Carlo simulation method. From the numerically calculated complex wavenumbers, the propagation speed of the average wave, the coherent attenuation coefficient and the effective shear modulus are presented as functions of frequency and area density.

  • Rock behaves in a complex way due to the discontinuities. To describe the complicated failure and deformation behavior of rock, many researches were focused on the development of crack models. This study discusses the validity of the sliding and shear crack model to systematically fractured rock, i.e. coal. The model was also implemented into a numerical analysis. For that, a finite element program was modified in several ways. To describe the transverse isotropy in two-dimensional analysis, the stress-strain relationship was modified for the direction of the axis of symmetry. Also, the changes of the effective elastic moduli according to the crack growth were calculated. A simple example of two-dimensional laboratory uniaxial compression test was analyzed. The results coincided with the observations obtained from the laboratory tests.

  • A study result of buckling reliability is presented for the axially compressed imperfect elastic cylinder. Multi-mode analysis program is developed from Karman-Donnell Equation for the calculation of the buckling load of the cylindrical she1l. Geometric intial imperfection is approximated by double Fourier series of which coefficients are assumed random variables with jointly normal distribution characteristics. Crude Monte Carlo simulation technique is used to calculate the probabilistic failure properties of several cases with various imperfection Conditions.

  • This paper reports the design methods and fabrication processes developed for a TV-lF SAW filter. The windowing method, the frequency sampling method, and the time sampling method were studied and compared to obtain a satisfactory initial impulse response. To obtain high attenuation near the trap frequency, diffraction effects were compensated. The 4fo sampling technique was used for avoiding multiple reflections at finger edges and obtaining an asymmetrical frequency response, and effective photolithographic techniques were used for electrode fingers with 11.2$\mu$ width. The developed filter is of sufficiently small size to be cost-effective and satisfies the industry specifications required for mass production.

  • In this research, biomechanical characteristics of the bone tissue are experimentally investigated. By using specimens of the bovine bone, the mechanical properties are obtained through tension and shear tests. In experiments, non-homogeneous and anisotropic properties with respect to longitudinal and transversal directions are observed. Moreover, the viscoelastic behavior in which modulus and strength properties are dependent on strain rates is analyzed. It is expected that a numerical damage model of the bone be efficiently established based on the results.

  • Flow-induced vibration analyses have been conducted for a 3D compressor blade model. Advanced computational analysis system based on computational fluid dynamics(CFD) and computational structural dynamics has been developed in order to investigate detailed dynamic responses of designed compressor blades. A fully implicit time marching scheme based on the Newmark direct integration method is used for computing the coupled aeroelastic governing equations of the 3D compressor blade for fluid-structure interaction problems. Detailed dynamic responses and instantaneous pressure contours on the blade surfaces considering flow-separation effects are presented to show the multi-physical phenomenon of the rotating compressor blade.
