  • The purpose of this study was to compare the career awareness and social contribution consciousness between the elementary science gifted students and the general students. For this, survey was taken by 201 gifted students and 216 general students. Methods used are Cronbach alpha, frequency, percentage, independent t-test and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The results are as follows : 1. The gifted students have higher career awareness than the general students. The gifted students recognize their own interests, aptitudes and talents which they are concerned. 2. The gifted students have higher social contribution consciousness than the another. This shows that the gifted students have desire to be respected and positive view of social contribution. 3. There is a positive correlation between career awareness and the social contribution consciousness. According to the past studies, students' household economic status affect their view or grade which they get.. Based on these results, we suggest that a development of educational program for career awareness and social contribution consciousness which can improve gifted students' social responsibility consciousness is necessary.

  • For this study, we reviewed theoretical background of STEAM education and domestic and international studies in STEAM education, by doing so, we developed and applied the STEAM education program based on topic-specific project. This program is designed for the 3rd and 4th lesson of 6th graders' science in elementary school. As a result, the positive attitude about science of the students who went through the researched program increased with meaningful difference compared to that of the sample population. The result of this study shows that the STEAM education program based on topic-specific project can brings positive changes for the science-related affective domains.

  • Recently, children's internet search engines are becoming the main method to access information. For those engines to function properly, search behavior of children as their searchers should be studied and the findings be applied to design and improve the systems. So an experiment was conducted and 22 3rd-grade elementary school students performed 3 searching tasks through 'Junior Naver' and 'Yahoo!꾸러기' which are representative children's search engines in Korea. Children's searching behavior was analyzed thoroughly through which the problems of children's search engines were diagnosed and recommendations were suggested to improve them.

  • The purpose of the study is to analyze the difference of the intention to implement instructional adaptations for students with disabilities between preliminary teachers who agree on inclusive education and who do not agree on inclusive class. The subjects are 318 preliminary teachers who enrolled in the Busan national university of education(180 pro-inclusive preliminary teachers and 138 anti-inclusive preliminary teachers). The questionnaires are composed of currently demographic information, perception about inclusive education, and instructional adaptations. To examine the differences depend on the teachers' perception of inclusive education, descriptive statistics, and t-test were used. The results are as follow: Significant differences in total instructional adaptations and three sub-instructional adaptations(e.g., instructional environment, instructional groups, and instructional contents) were found between preliminary teachers who agree on inclusive education and who do not agree on inclusive education.

  • School violence has long been recognized as a social problem, and various efforts have been made to prevent it. In this study, we propose a system that can prevent school violence by analyzing data on the frequency of conversations between students, and identify peer relationships. The frequency of conversations between students in the class was quantified using a rating scale questionnaire, and this data was grouped into the appropriate number of clusters using the K-means algorithm. Additionally, the homeroom teacher observed the frequency and nature of conversations between students, and targeted specific individuals or groups for counseling and intervention, with the aim of reducing school violence. Data analysis revealed that the teachers' qualitative observations were consistent with the quantified data based on student questionnaires, and therefore applicable as quantitative data towards the identification and understanding of student relationships within the classroom. The study has potential limitations. The data used is subjective and based on peer evaluations which can be inconsistent as the students may use different criteria to evaluate one another. It is expected that this study will help homeroom teachers in their efforts to prevent school violence by understanding the relationships between students within the classroom.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a plan to ensure that students lacking basic science skills acquire the minimum needed science learning ability while completing the common curriculum. We surveyed 27 elementary and secondary science teachers with experience in research and teaching related to basic skills support to investigate their perceptions of the criteria for minimum achievement standards using Consensual Qualitative Research (CQR) and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The results indicated that the science teachers tended to describe low achievers as lacking science learning competency, accumulating a science learning deficit, and lacking prerequisite knowledge. However, there were some differences in the characteristics that the elementary and secondary teachers paid attention to in students with insufficient science and basic academic skills. Specifically, the secondary teachers demonstrated greater sensitivity towards low learning motivation and difficulties in using scientific symbols, whereas the elementary teachers were more sensitive towards students' attitudes towards science or lack of experience. Furthermore, it has been observed that the prioritization of items, categorized by school level, differs in terms of setting minimum achievement standards to ensure basic skill support. This implies the need to develop minimum achievement standards considering various variables based on the school level. As there are diverse opinions among science teachers, depending on their expertise, regarding the factors to be considered when developing these standards to guarantee science and basic skill support. Based on the findings of the study, policy support is required to enhance teachers' professionalism in developing students' basic skills while considering the individual context and diversity of low achievers. Additionally, it is crucial to establish a shared vision for students lacking basic skills to reduce the gap between national policy and the practices of science teachers in ensuring support for basic skills.

  • The Science Gifted Education Center of Chongju National University of Education used the chemical experiments for selecting gifted children in the area of science. There are two kinds of experiments, 'the observing the dissolution of cube sugar (Exp1)' and the guessing the concentration of solutions (Exp2)'. Students basic skills of observation, problem recognition and the ability using the models were verified through Exp1. Exp2 was used to verify the practical problem solving skill of children. Besides, the affective facts of the interests, adhesive power of the problems were evaluated through the teacher abservation. The evaluation using experiments turned out to be valuable for the identification of the gifted children who have the creativity, originality, and fluency in the field of science.
