The purpose of this study was to analyze characteristics of problem solving process with proportional or compensational reasoning of the elementary school students. For this study, 85th grade students were selected and tested with Science Reasoning Task, information processing ability test and proportional and compensational reasoning tasks. This study revealed that students in mid concrete stage could solve the proportionality task and easy compensation task. But, most of the students could not solve difficult compensation task. And as the students got higher score in information processing test, it took them less time to solve the problem. The types of strategy used in solving proportional and compensational problem were categorized as the factor of change, building-up and the cross-product. Most of the students failed in problem solving used incorrect schema knowledge, procedure knowledge and strategy knowledge. Many students tended to use proportionality strategy to solve the difficult compensation task. Result of this study suggested that various task included different structure and the same schema knowledge can be effective for the advancement of students' proportional and compensational reasoning ability.

This study aimed to analyze the contents of clothing and textile areas in practical arts, technology and home economics, and science of home economics courses, and the degrees of vertical connections among them. Totally 21 textbooks were chosen for this study, which consist of fifth and sixth grade practical arts textbooks(one from each grade), sixteen technology and home economics textbooks(eight from each eighth and tenth grade), and three high school science of home economics textbooks. In order to analyze systematically the degrees of vertical connections, clothing and textile areas were divided into 6 large sections, which were subdivided into 48 specific categories(contents) by content analysis. The method of connection analysis was based on development(constant continuity and sequence), repetition (continuity without considering sequence), gap(sequence without considering the continuity of curriculum), and reduction(the lack of both continuity and sequence). The connection analysis were done in 48 categories separatively. In the sections of clothing attire and clothing management, the most categories(46.1% and 44.5%) were evaluated as having connections of reductions. No category was analyzed as development in the section of clothing planning and the most categories(83.3%) had connections of repetitions. In the clothing material section showed to be the section with the most in-depth and expanded content compared to the previous educational levels, with developed categories of 50%. The most degree of connection in the clothing and textile areas of practical arts, technology and home economics, and science of home economics subjects was the development at 29.2%, followed by repetition at 25%, reduction at 25%, and finally gap at 20.8%. Developed categories were relatively more than repetitive, reduced, or gap contents. However, as the connection between grades was not highly outstanding, it was difficult to say that the connection of the curriculum was adequately distributed according to the school grades.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes in teachers' recognition of science class and children for the gifted, and the process of changes in their practical knowledge after the experience of science class and conversation with colleague teachers. Two elementary teachers, teacher A and B, were selected as subject of investigation, who wanted to improve their science class. They experienced the process of self-examination during their class and from class conversations. Teacher A has 10 years of teaching experience. She has been in contact with gifted children and observed them since undergraduate. She entered the graduate school since she came to be interested in science class and children for the gifted. While teacher B has only three years of teaching experience and had a first contact with the gifted after graduate school. The results of this study are as follows. Teacher A didn't change recognition of gifted children class by class conversation in short term because she had a firm faith in good class teaching and was rich in class teaching knowledge. And, her practical knowledge was applied to the next class by changing teaching method or by supplementing her class contents in concerned part through class observation and class conversation with her colleagues. Teacher B was characterized as being lack of class confidence and concerned more about subject knowledge. She was forming a new practical knowledge along with new class teaching knowledge. Teacher B was in trouble with applying new practical knowledge to next class. From such findings, it was concluded that the process of changing or forming of practical knowledge depends on the beliefs, values, experiences, or knowledges of each teacher. A reflection on one' own class teaching could be a good way to form a practical knowledge and improve teaching speciality, when it was concerned with self-reflection of their own class, class observation, and communication with colleagues. Thus, the reflection practice could be applied to the teaching program of teachers for the gifted to form practical knowledge through trial class, self-reflection of class, and conversation with colleagues.

The purpose of this study is to validate learning progressions for Earth's motion and solar system from two different perspectives of validity. One is construct validity, that is whether a hypothetical pathway derived from our study of LPs is supported by empirical evidence of children's substantive development. The other is consequential validity, which refers to the impact of LP-based adaptive instruction on children's improved learning outcomes. For this purpose, 373 fifth-grade students and 17 teachers from six elementary schools in Seoul, Kangwon province, and Gwangju participated. We designed LP-based adaptive instruction modules delving into the unit of 'Solar system and stars.' We also employed 13 ordered multiple-choice items and analyzed the transitions of children's achievement levels based on the results of pre-test and post-test. For testing construct validity, 64 % of children in the experimental group showed improvement according to the hypothetical pathways. Rasch analysis also supports this results. For testing consequential validity, the analysis of covariance between experimental and control groups revealed that the improvement of experimental group is significantly higher than the control group (F=30.819, p=0.000), and positive transitions of children's achievement level in the experimental group are more dominant than in the control group. In addition, the findings of applying Rasch model reveal that the improvement of students' ability in the experimental group is significantly higher than that of the control group (F=11.632, p=0.001).

This study aimed to analyze applying TAM model the process that flow factors such as 'harmony of challenge and technology' exert effects on learners' attitudes of keeping learning in STEAM class employing robots. For the study, the 'Energy and Tools' chapter of the science textbook for the 6th grade's second semester was re-arranged, and applied for 189 students, and among them, only the 174 usable data were used for the analysis. As a result of analysis, students' learning immersion factor(factor of harmony of challenge and technology) had deeper effects on the factor of ease of learning than usefulness of learning and this in turn, had an effect on their intention to keep learning ultimately through the factor of value of learning as the study found. As a result of research, it was found that for indications identified, in order to use robots in STEAM class, for the students' intention to keep learning, it's essential for learners to have proper and active attitudes towards learning and basic knowledge of robots, and aspects of values should be considered that based on this, robot can assist in learning and affect results of learning in STEAM class. On the other hand, the factors of ease of learning and the combination of the challenge and technology do not gives direct (+) effect on the intention to continue learning and the value for learning, respectively. However, each of the two factor has indirect influence on each of the dependent variable within the significant range, which is the reason the author includes the result of the analysis.

This study explores the transfer of defunct school records (by preservation period, type, and place of transfer) in South Korea since the Public Records Management Act was enacted in 1999 and suggests improvements. Metropolitan and provincial offices of education, totaling 17, were asked to disclose information about the status of defunct school records. Since 1999, 1,411 schools nationwide have closed permanently, predominantly elementary schools, followed by high then middle schools. By preservation period, there were more records in the 1 to 10-year category than in the 30-year to permanent category. By record type, most were electronic records, followed by paper records, archival objects, and audiovisual records. By place of transfer, most nonelectronic records were transferred to integrated schools, and most electronic records were transferred to the Records Management System. In-depth interviews with 10 record managers from local education offices found that the management of defunct school records varies widely by region and institution because of the lack of specified manuals. Participants also reported difficulties in transferring web-based records, archival objects, and audiovisual records, as well as insufficient archival space and computer systems. This study also provides suggestions to improve the management of defunct school records, such as establishing specified manuals, creating a dedicated government department for managing defunct school records, deploying workforces, and improving computer systems.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the application of GLOBE program in Korea and its perception displayed by the Science High school Teachers. The interview using a questionnaire with 12 science high school teachers in Korea was conducted. It was attempted to find a problem occurring during the practical application for getting a basic data for the development of Korean GLOBE program. The results of this study are as follows: (1) The level of GLOBE program was for upper grade levelsin elementary school and middle school. The program may not be suitable for the Science High School students in Korea. (2) To successfully apply the GLOBE program in Korea, study levels and research subjects in the program must be further developed in terms of quality and areas. Suggestions for the possibility of adopting and operating the program in Korea are made as follows: (1) To effectively manage the GLOBE school sites, there has to be a headquarter system in place and operation under, say, the Korean Earth Science Society. (2) To ensure the program's identity and goals, it is to set up a center for the Korea GLOBE program with a financial support system established.

Mixed reality(MR) technology combines the advantages of virtual reality(VR) and augmented reality(AR) technology, allowing MR users to interact with virtual objects against the background of the real world. In addition, since virtual objects interact with the real world, users can experience a higher immersion. This study proposes electric circuit practical training content using Meta Quest Pro to produce immersive MR content based on reality. To this end, first, the development process for producing MR content by linking Meta Quest Pro equipment with the Unity 3D engine is organized. Then, based on the traditional electric circuit practical training method used in elementary school science classes, virtual electric circuit practical training content with the same training method and operation process is produced based on MR. Finally, survey experiments are conducted to analyze the presence and experience of the MR-based educational environment provided using the produced content. Through this, the usability of the proposed practical training content is evaluated and future research directions are suggested.

Science drama can be an useful tool for understanding the nature of science, Science-Technology-Society relationship by providing indirect experiences to young students. Specific science concept and knowledge can also be learned with high interests. In this study, to explore the usefulness of science drama in elementary science lessons, two scripts of science drama and lesson plans were developed and implemented. Six step model for science drama lessons was also suggested. One was 'Manhattan Project' which dealt with social, ethical responsibility in using science & technology (science argument drama), and the other was 'Mom, My blood type is O' which explained the heredity of blood type (science concept drama). Two teachers were asked to write their journals during preparation and implementation of science drama lessons, and the lessons were observed by the researcher and video taped for analysis. Some students were interviewed just after the lessons by the teacher and all students were asked to write their impressions, change of their thought, what is leant etc. Overall responses of students and teachers on the two science drama lessons were very positive, 'Mom, My blood type is O' got more positive responses, and girls were more positive than boys. Some students anticipated another science drama even suggest topics for it. 'Mom, My blood type is O' was successful in making students (grade 3) understand the knowledge related with heredity of blood type (71% of the students got perfect answer). In 'Manhattan Project' students (grade 5) perceived more diverse location of responsibility after the lesson, but the danger and harmfulness of atomic power was embossed. This implied the need of more careful planning for the relevant learning activities before and after the play of science drama. Two teachers perceived the science drama as a new, useful tool for some subject which is hard to deal with by other teaching method. They were also satisfied with students' high interest and engagement during the science drama lessons but the extra time and effort for the lessons were pointed out as a main difficulties.

This study identifies correlations between the use of media devices, communication ability, and executive function difficulties for third grade students, as well as investigates the moderating effect of a child's communication ability. Data from the 10th (2017) Panel Study on Korean Children [PSKC] was employed (N=557). Descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation and hierarchical regression were used along with SPSS 25.0(IBM Co., Armonk, NY, USA). The results were as follows. First, the executive function difficulties in the third-grade showed a significant positive correlation with media device use. While also, showing a negative correlation with a child's communication ability. Media devices use and communication ability has a significant negative correlation. Second, a child's communication ability has a moderating effect in relation to the use of media devices and executive function difficulties. The difficulty of executive function showed a reciprocal increase to a child's use of media devices and indicated a discriminatory effect of a child's communication ability. In conclusion, this study shows that communication ability is important as a personal factor for children who control the negative effects of media devices. Therefore, it is necessary to provide and support an environment for the development of a child's communication ability.
