This study was to examine the factors that affect the oral health knowledge of elementary school students. This study surveyed a comparative study of the students and guardians' oral health knowledge among the elementary schools operating or not operating school dental clinic program in Jeollanamdo. The subjects were 178 elementary school students and guardian, structured questionnaires were performed during the period from May 2 to May 26, 2014. As a result, non-operated school dental clinic program had a negative effect on Oral health knowledge of students, but it was not significant. The factors associated with student's oral health knowledge turned out to be oral heath education experience of guardian, oral health education participation of student, self-reported oral health of student. In conclusion, student's oral health knowledge was influenced by student's and guardian's oral health-related behaviors, oral health status of student.
The purpose of this study was to provide the fundamental data for further developments of the school dental clinic program through evaluating oral health knowledge, status and attitude of school dental program subjected on teachers who had experienced the program. The subjects were total 186 teachers from 8 elementary school in Ulsan metropolitan city area that had been operating school dental clinic program from 1999 to 2005. For the teachers by school and period of operation, the level of knowledge and behavior of oral health were no difference, however the recognition and behavior level in shorter operation group were higher, the level of recommend other school was higher than previous research. The efforts for further development school dental clinic program associated with advanced countries should be emphasized including the higher interests, more active participation and strengthened education. The systematic supports would be also important.
A survey was conducted from September 9 to November 2, 2013, on 277 teachers in 10 different elementary schools to find out about their awareness of school dental clinics and preventive oral health programs. The schools were selected by convenience sampling from the city of Gunsan, North Jeolla Province. Out of the teachers, 133 teachers worked in five elementary schools equipped with school dental clinics, and 144 teachers worked in the other five elementary schools that weren't equipped with school dental clinics. As for data analysis, an IBM SPSS 21.0 was utilized as well. As a result of analyzing their opinions on the top priority of oral health programs, the teachers from the schools equipped with school dental clinics placed the most importance on application of fluorides and oral health education (71.1%), and the teachers from the schools without school dental clinics gave top priority to oral health education (76.5%). The 87.0% of the former replied that there was improvement in the oral health status of the students. The 74.4% of the latter answered they had never heard about school oral health programs, but 85.8% expected the introduction of school oral health programs to be of use for the improvement of the oral health state of the students. The 57.7% of the teachers from the schools with school dental clinics didn't think there were sufficient human resources who could be responsible for preventive oral health programs. As the successful performance of oral health programs by school dental clinics exerts a huge influence on not only the oral health promotion of school organizational members but that of community members, schools that aren't yet equipped with dental clinics should be informed about the necessity of school dental clinics, and the government should put more efforts into publicity activities about school dental clinics.
This study was conducted to investigate of effects of school dental clinic program by evaluating the oral health knowledge and the attitude subjected on the students who had experienced the program in Gimhae and Yangsan city. The subjects were a total of 780 students from 6 elementary dental clinics in Gimhae and Yangsan city from July 5 to 23, 2013. The average oral health knowledge level of students with operating program was 3.36 points, the average oral health knowledge level of students with non-operating program was 2.94 points, the average oral health knowledge level with operating school was higher than non-operating school (p<0.001). The more four times tooth brushing per day with operating school was 37.2%, the three times tooth brushing per day with non-operating school was 34.6%. The oral health knowledge level of students with operating school (odds ratio [OR]=1.58, 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.35~1.85) were significantly higher compared to non-operating school, but the number of tooth brushing times per day (OR=1.06, 95% CI=0.93~1.21) was not significant. There is a clear difference of oral health knowledge and attitude depend on whether the school dental clinic operating or not, because it has a positive effect on the attitude and knowledge for health prevention of students, it will be able to enhance the oral health promotion of the students through the program.
The objective of the paper is to analyze the extent to which elementary school students acquired, perceived, and practiced oral health knowledge provided by an elementary school-based oral health clinic (SBOHC). It is respectively investigated by gender and year of school. The paper will be relevant for developing specified oral health programs in elementary SBOHCs. By choosing three elementary schools that operate SBOHC in the school district of Daejeon Metropolitan City from April 11 to April 30, 2013, a self-administered questionnaire was given out to be answered directly by 350 students in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades and their responses were collected. Of the collected responses, 326 responses were explored by using the SPSS 12.0. Those students' scores of oral health knowledge are found to be statistically meaningful for school year, not for gender. In them are included correct tooth brushing time, dental caries symptoms, gum disease symptoms, and correct tooth brushing method. Change in tooth brushing method after oral health education showed the statistically meaningful difference for gender and school year. In conclusion, every SBOHC should develop a variety of specified educational programs that depend on gender and grade in each elementary school.
This study surveyed on a comparative study of the students' oral health knowledge and behavior between the elementary schools with(528) or without dental clinic(442) in Ulsan. Sang Jin had 11.6% students from single parent or parentless families, revealing a much higher percentage than that of Mun Hyeon 3.6%. The findings showed on oral health care the score of activities of students in Sang Jin about 'always brushing one's teeth after having snacks' 'having seen a dentist and gotten regular dental checkups' and 'having a lot of concern for one's oral health' was much higher than that of Mun Hyeon. Sang Jin earned statistically higher marks for having better oral health knowledge that 'Chocolate, cookies and candy easily cause decayed teeth', 'Fruit, milk and vegetables cleanse the teeth', 'Brushing teeth can be replaced with chewing gum after meals', and 'Brushing teeth in left & right is the best way to cleanse'. As the knowledge of oral health care differed depending on the graders 4th, 5th, 6th in Sang Jin, the higher their grade was in.

The subjects' oral health status were examined by two calibrated dentists every year from 2004 to 2009. The DMFS index of $1^{st}$ grade to $6^{th}$ grade experimental and control group was 0.07, 0.39, 0.55, 0.67, 0.81, 1.79 and 0.31, 0.86, 1.07, 1.04, 2.71, 3.08 respectively. It's significantly different in $5^{th}$ grade(p<0.001) and $6^{th}$ grade(p=0.018) when it compare with control group. This study partially showed effect of school-based oral health programs on decrements of dental caries. This program should be expanded widely among elementary school in Korea. Xylitol tablet also recommended to included in school-based oral health programs.
The study was intended to investigate elementary schoolers' oral health status according to whether the school have and manage an school oral health clinic or not in order to provide useful information for continuously developing the school oral health clinic 1,163 children in Hwasan elementary school in Hwasung city and 485 children in S elementary school in the same locality were selected as the experimental group and the control group, respectively, and orally examined from May 1st to 30th, 2004. The findings from the oral examination were as follows. 1. DMF rate was higher in the higher grades in both the groups. The rate was lower in the experimental group with 45.1% of the children than in the control group with 65.3% of the children. 2. DMFT rate also were higher as the grades were higher in both the groups. The ratio was lower in the experimental group with 30.4% of the children than in the control group with 44.6% of the children. 3. DMFT index was 1.0 in number in the experimental group and 1.6 in the control group. Index increase from the 1st grade to the sixth grade was also more positive in the experimental group. 4. DT rate was a little higher in the experimental group in the first graders, but comparatively decreased to the grades while increased in the control group. In the sixth graders, the rate was 42.4% in the experimental group and 87.7% in the control group, the former was less than the latter by about 50% point. 5. FT rate was a little higher in the control group for the first graders but increased in the experimental group to the grades. The rate in the sixth graders was higher by more than double in the experimental group. Based on the above findings, the region of the study had better oral health statistics than in other regions. The operation of school oral health clinics that provide dental health care to children at the right time seems to contribute to enhancing their dental health status by preventing against dental diseases and changing their relevant knowledge, attitude and behaviors. In the future, more school oral health clinics should gradually be prepared to push ahead with a sustained, extensive dental health project geared toward school-aged children. To make it happen, dental hygienists who are professional medical personnels should be taken advantage of, and in order to beef up the efficiency of preventive measures and oral health education, the best dental health care services should be offered by harnessing dental hygienists and dentists who work at public dental clinics run by local governments.
This study evaluated the effect of an school-based oral health program supplied to primary school children in Anyang city. This program included oral health education, pit and fissure sealing, fluoride mouth rinsing and professional tooth brushing. The numbers of the subjects were 311 children in the program participant group and 165 children in the control group which were not in the program. Data were analyzed with t-test, one way ANOVA and pearson's correlation coefficient using SPSS WIN 12.0 program. In attitude, behavior of oral hygiene, participant group was better than the control group. In case of the perceived oral health, satisfaction of oral health, need oral treatment there was no significant difference between the two groups. These results suggest that school children can learn the good attitude and behaviors and oral health promotion can be achived from the oral health program run by shool dental clinic.
