The Mediating Effects of Aggression in the Relationship between Marital Conflict and School Adjustment for Adolescents (부부갈등이 청소년의 학교생활적응에 미치는 영향에서 공격성의 매개효과)

  • This study examined the mediating effects of aggression in the associations between marital conflict and school adjustment for adolescents. Participants were 482 middle school students of Seoul. Statistical methods of correlational analysis and regression analysis were used with SPSS WIN 25.0. The results of this study showed that marital conflict had positive influences on aggression of adolescents. School adjustment was negatively affected by aggression of adolescents. Marital conflict was found to have negative direct effects on school adjustment for adolescents. The results from regression analysis indicated that aggression mediated the relationship between marital conflict and school adjustment for adolescents.

The Mediating Effects of Self-esteem in the Relationship between Marital Conflict and School Adjustment for Adolescents (부부갈등과 남녀 청소년의 학교생활적응 간 관계에서 자아존중감의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the mediating effects of self-esteem in the relationship between marital conflict and school adjustment among adolescents. This study used data collected from 482 middle school students in Seoul. Multiple regression analysis was used to examine the mediating effects of self-esteem in the relationship between marital conflict and school adjustment. The results of this study revealed that there were sex differences in self-esteem of adolescents. For both male and female adolescents, marital conflict was found to have negative effects on self-esteem. School adjustment of adolescents was found to be positively influenced by self-esteem. Marital conflict had negative direct effects on school adjustment only for male adolescents. Results indicated that self-esteem mediated in the effects of marital conflict on school adjustment for male and female adolescents. Implications for understanding the associations among marital conflict, children's self-esteem and adjustment in school contexts were discussed.

  • The current study examined whether multicultural students' depression level mediated between cultural adaptation stress and school life adaptation in South Korea. A total of 1,329 students in the sixth year (2016) of the National Youth Policy Institute (NYPI) 's multicultural youth panel data were analyzed using regression analysis. The main results of the study are as follows. First, cultural adaptation stress of adolescents in multicultural families had a direct influence on school life adaptation. Second, depression partly mediated between cultural adaptation stress and school life adaptation. These findings have major implications for policies and interventions in regard to cultural adaptation stress and school life adaptation of the youth in multicultrual families.

  • This study attempts to verify the relational structure of adolescent's emotional problems, smart phone dependency and school life adjustment from a perspective of Glasser (1998)'s choice theory. For this purpose, this study utilized the second year data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey Data. From the results of the analysis, the most influential variable affecting adolescent's school life adjustment was found to be the sense of community, and adolescent's emotional problems were found to have a effect upon school life adjustment and smart phone dependency based on the choice theory. This study discussed issues of cultivating the sense of community to improve adolescent's school life adjustment, and developing counseling program and reinforcing the counseling personnel with improvement of contingent employment to alleviate smart phone dependency and emotional problems.

The Longitudinal Causal Relationship between School Life Adjustment and Life Satisfaction Among Adolescents: The Application of Auto-Regressive Cross-Lagged Model

  • The purpose of the current study was to investigate the causal relationship between school life adjustment and life satisfaction among adolescents through longitudinal panel data. The current study analyzed the 1st through 7th wave data in the 4th grade panel of elementary school from the Korea Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS). The research model was tested using auto-regressive cross-lagged model. The major results were as follows. First, adolescents' school life adjustment had a positive auto-regressive effect. Second, adolescents' life satisfaction had a positive auto-regressive effect. Third, adolescents' school life adjustment was a causal predictor of life satisfaction, but not vice versa. Finally, implications in terms of enhancing adolescents' school life adjustment and life satisfaction were also discussed.

  • This study was examined to confirm the mediating effect of ego resilience on the relation between parental neglect and abuse and school life adjustment in adolescents. For this research, this study used the 4th-year data from the Korean Child and Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS)' 4th grader in elementary school and analyzed 2,092 1st grade of middle school students. Data was analyzed by means of descriptive statistics, Pearson coefficient correlation and hierarchical analysis. To examine the mediating effect, the study used sobel test. The findings ]were as follows. First, parental neglect and abuse negatively effected adolescents' school life adjustment. Second, adolescents' ego resilience has a partial mediating effect on the relation between parental neglect and adolescents' school life adjustment. Third, adolescents' ego resilience has a partial mediating effect on the relation between parental abuse and adolescents' school life adjustment. These results suggest that home, school, and local community need to make an effort to improve ego resilience of adolescents, who are suffering from parental neglect and abuse, for school life adjustment.

A Study on the Mediating Effect of Academic Stress and Psychological Happiness in the Relationship between the Leisure Activities and Adjustment to School Lives by Teenager (청소년 여가활동과 학교생활적응과의 관계에서 심리적 행복감과 학업스트레스의 매개효과 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of leisure activities on middle school and high school students' adjustment to school lives and, in the relationship between their leisure activities and adjustment to school lives, review the mediating effect of psychological happiness and academic stress. For this study, middle school and high school students of the schools located in Seoul and Gyeonggi areas were surveyed over two weeks from November 1 to November 15, 2021, followed by empirical analysis. The findings of this study were as follows; First, the leisure activities of teenagers had a positive impact on their psychological happiness. Second, the leisure activities of teenagers had a negative impact on academic stress. Third, the leisure activities of teenagers had a positive impact on school life adjustment. Fourth, the psychological happiness felt by teenagers had a positive impact on the adjustment to school lives. Fifth, the academic stress of teenagers had a negative impact on school life adjustment. Sixth, in the relationship between leisure activities and school life adaptation, psychological happiness and academic stress had significant mediating effects. The implication of this study is that it provided theoretical and empirical data for developing a strategy to help teenagers adapt to school and cope with school stress with sound leisure activities and high happiness.

The Effects of Parents' Neglect on Adolescents' School Adjustment: Focusing on the Mediating Effect of Self- Identity and Life Satisfaction (부모방임이 청소년의 학교생활적응에 미치는 영향: 자아정체성과 삶의 만족도의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • This study tries to investigate the influence of parents' neglect on adolescents' school adjustment, and to prove the mediating effects of self-identity and life satisfaction on the relationship between two variables. Data from 5th year(2014) Korean Children and Youth Panel Study(KCYPS) on 2035 nation-wide second year middle school students was analyzed by utilizing Regression analysis and path analysis. Results of the analysis showed first, parents' neglect had a negative effect on adolescents' self-identity, life satisfaction, and school adjustment. Second, adolescents' school adjustment improved with their self-identity and life satisfaction included as mediating effects. Third, the effect of parents' neglect on adolescents' school adjustment was partly mediated by the effects of subject's self-identity and life satisfaction. Furthermore, the need for program development to enhance adolescents' self-identity, life satisfaction and school adjustment was suggested.

  • This paper is a comprehensive study on how the family´s psychological environment affects juveniles in this ever-changing modern society by conducting a survey on teenagers living in Jinju, southern part of Korea. The survey was conducted on 402 students in Junior high schools in the Jinju city. The results are as follows. 1. On the students satisfaction with his/her families psychological environment, the respondents gave 3.5 points of the perfect 5. With regard to social. demographical and individual factors that affect their family lives, most of the teenagers pointed to economic power and self-esteem. 2. When asked how well they adapt to their school lives. the teenagers save 3.31 points out of 5. On social, demographical and individual factors that affect their school lives, the respondents mentioned gender economic power, a monthly allowance, mothers job and self-esteem. 3. The family´s psychological environment of adolescent was shown to be the most important factor on their school life.

Effect of Family Function on the School Life Adaptation : The Mediating Effect of self-identity (가족기능이 학교생활적응에 미치는 영향 -자아정체성의 매개효과를 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study family functioning and self-identity as a mediating effect on the impact of school life adaptation were investigated. This aspect of the study, panel survey was used to researchers from the Korea Youth Policy and their parents of about the consciousness and family awareness, the youth of 6, 979 people. Youth Policy Institute of Korea analyzed the panel. frequency using SPSS program, AMOS using factor analysis, path analysis was performed. The following results were obtained. First, the family of functions of the sub-factors and school life adaptation sub-factors had a significant correlation with each other. Second, the youth's family function in school life adaptation had a significant impact which parameters, excluding self-identity. Third, the family functions as a self-identity parameter had a significant impact on school life adaptation.
