A Study on the Determinants of Investment in Startup Accelerators (스타트업 액셀러레이터의 투자결정요인에 대한 연구)

  • Startup accelerators are a new type of investors providing a certain amount of shares for imparting education, mentoring, networking, and providing space and seed money that can directly resolve the difficulties faced by nascent entrepreneurs (Clarysse, 2016). Startup accelerators have expanded worldwide as their influence over the startup ecosystem has increasingly been established (Pauwels et al., 2016; Cohen & Hochberg, 2014). This study was conducted to derive investment determinants of startup accelerators that are emerging as major investment players around the world. To this end, the accelerator-type determinants of investment were derived. As previous research on this topic is nonexistent, this process involved qualitative meta-synthesis, literature reviews, observation, and in-depth interviews. First, more than 30 research papers were examined for the determinants of investment for firms at an early stage of their foundation, and the categories and determinants of investment in the relevant studies were comparatively analyzed using qualitative meta-synthesis. Further, related data were investigated to identify the characteristics of accelerators, and the startup evaluation process of US accelerators was studied. The more than 100 questions raised during this process were coded to examine the determinants of investment that accelerators considered important. In-depth interviews were conducted with four US accelerators to identify the characteristics of accelerators and key determinants of investment. Ultimately, 5 categories of accelerator-type determinants of investment and 26 subordinate determinants of investment were derived. The results were verified and supplemented by consulting with seven accelerators in Korea. The results were confirmed after pilot tests and verification by seven domestic accelerators. After confirming the accelerator-type determinants, the reliability of them was verified by examining the importance and priority of each category through the quantitative survey of Korean accelerators. The research that elicited the accelerator-type investment determinants is the first research and is expected to be a major reference to the progress of subsequent studies. This research that systematically derived the investment determinants of the accelerator is expected to make major contributions to the progress of follow-up studies, the process of selecting startups, and the investment decision-making process of the accelerators.

  • Conventional funding system for the university research projects is limited to a grant or subsidy type funding method which does not require an obligation of refund. Such a funding system is known as ideal one for the university research activities which in general is not a profit oriented activities. It is considered ideal in a sense that nonprofit oriented research activities gives more emphasis on creativity than on efficiency or practical value. A venture- business-start-up research activity can not be considered as a pure nonprofit oriented activities. It clearly gives more emphasis on efficiency and practical value than on creativity Recently a large portion of the venture-business-start-up research activities are carried out in the universities. When a conventional research funding system is applied to such a new type of research activities, it turned out that the success rate is much lower than expectancy. This is why a new and differentiated funding system is sought for such a new type of research activities. A funding system of loan type for a venture-business-start-up research activities is proposed herewith. A loan system naturally requires a pay back after the successful start up of the venture business. This loan system nay be considered that a business concept is grafted on a conventional funding system for the university research activities. This means that a rather loose or generous terms and conditions of the money loan case is introduced into this funding system to remedy the short comings of the intrinsic nonprofit nature of the university research activities. The point is how to improve the success rate and how to reduce the undesirable aspect of the conventional university research activities when it is practiced with the new type of research activities. After one and half year of practicing with the new funding system. it can not be asserted that a definitely positive results could be obtained. but a trend of desirable aspects could be observed such as low drop out rate. project selection efficiency, higher sense of responsibility. etc.

Relationship between Social Network Types and Subjective Life Satisfaction of the Elderly : Focused on Non Voluntary and Past Oriented Social Network vs. Voluntary and Present Oriented Social Network (노인의 사회적관계망 유형과 주관적 삶의 만족도와의 관계 : 비자발적과거기반형 사회적관계망과 자발적현재기반형 사회적관계망을 중심으로)

  • This study examines the effects of social network support types on the subjective satisfaction of life for elderly people focused on the impact of voluntary and present oriented social network type represented by hobby club vs. non voluntary and past oriented social network type for example alumni association in Korean society respectively. According to the advanced studies figured out by preceding researchers, most of social networks had a good and positive effects on the elderly people's subjective satisfaction of life. However, this study tried to classify the social networks by type such as starting time to make relationship among members and voluntary or non voluntary for participation to the networks. As a result of this study, voluntary and present oriented social network represented by hobby club has a very positive relationship with Korean elderly people's subjective satisfaction of life while non voluntary and past oriented social network as alumni association has no relationship with elderly people's subjective satisfaction of life. Therefore, government policies and budget should be concentrated on encouraging or supporting voluntary and present oriented social networks such as hobby club, voluntary agency etc. rather than non voluntary and past oriented social networks so as to maximize the effect for increasing Korean elderly people's subjective satisfaction of life.

  • The purpose of this research was to identify how service composition factor impact organizational performance of long-term care facilities for elderly people. The target population was the staffs who were working at long-term care facilities for elderly people in urban areas of Seoul, Inchon and cities in Kyonggi-do as of September 2012. Independent variables, main factors for organizational performances, are leadership, educational training, compensation, initiative, and service quality. Dependent variables are selected as duty satisfaction, job performance, financial aptitude and beneficiary-oriented policy. SPSS ver18.0 statistical computer program was conducted in order to analyze the multivariate statistical data. The results are examined in detail in terms of the influence of two managing systems in the senior-care service on the organizational performance and the evaluations of the relation and difference caused by the input variables in two managing systems. In one case of the influence of two managing systems in the senior-care service on the organizational performance, the findings show 1) the influence of the service managing factor is clearly related to duty satisfaction with the result of 0.001 (F=37.429) regression data, 2) the influence of the service managing factor is clearly related to job performance with the result of 0.001 (F=55.099) regression data, 3) the influence of the service managing factor is closely related to financial aptitude with the result of 0.001 (F=56.904) regression data, and 4) the influence of the service managing factor is also clearly related to beneficiary-oriented policy with the result of 0.001 (F=61.367) regression data.

  • For the success of the DMB market to meet consumers' demands for Ubiquitous Media and strengthen the nation's competitiveness, it's inevitable for us to activate DMB advertising as of main profit source for DMB Media, and to develop various types of DMB advertising which are linked to the profit model. So I'd like to look over the various types of DMB advertising which are suitable for DMB features as one of the efforts to activate DMB advertising. First of all, I've figured out what kinds of advertising are available for new media and which related technologies are required for DMB media. Through this research, I could find out what features of new media such as cable broadcasting, Internet and Mobile have become the source of developing various types of advertising and how to a great part to activate new media advertising markets by making the best use of their media features. This research also shows that DMB advertising has the high potential to be developed in various and effective types and kinds of advertising with its media feature and technological feature. This research observing DMB advertising cases showed that DMB advertising can be divided into 6 types such as forms, purposes, techniques, advertising positions, the use of LBS(Location Based Service), coupons and it could be developed into various kinds of DMB advertising dependent on each type. On the other hands, it would be great to have continual researches and follow-ups for various types of DMB advertising and the verification of the effectiveness for DMB advertising by performing potential DMB advertising.

  • Cloud computing services have became an hot issues in business fields while the IT-related global company such as Amazon, MS, and Google took part in. The cloud computing makes it possible to share in the form of outsourcing of hardware and software through the Internet, to build a distributed computing environment via multiple terminals, and to reduce the cost using open source. Such a cloud computing services have not shown any significant growth in Korea yet compared to other countries. Therefore, in this study focusing on public cloud computing services, it is intended to analyze the determinants of public cloud computing services using the technology model. Thus, for users using public cloud services, we conducted a questionnaire survey from the beginning of January 2013 to the end of February 2013. And we derived a research model based on the Technology Acceptance Model(TAM). As a result of this study, it shows that personal aspects significantly impacts on the perceived usability, service aspects, systems aspects, and the intent of the technology acceptances. System aspects significantly effect on the intent of technology acceptances. Perceived usability significantly effects on the service aspects and the systems aspects. The main factors effecting on the intent of the technology acceptances are system aspects and perceived usability in order. And it shows that the personal aspects decreases the intent of the technology acceptances.

  • Many companies are developing a numerous number of new products and business models for their sustainable growth. First, their unique technological capability needs to be obtained to develop new products and services. However, as the applicable period of a technology into its industrialization becomes shorter and shorter, the necessity of technological convergence is increasing. Therefore, this study aims to look at the patent status in Korea for the last ten years to analyze in which direction technological convergence had advanced and further compare the patent status in Korea with that in U.S., Europe, and Japan. In addition, this study looks at the impact of converged patent technology on the sales in relevant industries. To this end, this study collected 5,000 patents applied from 2000 to 2009 for the last ten years in Korea, U.S., and Europe every year and conducted network analysis by using UCINET, social network analysis program. In this study, we drew our research findings as follows: First, we could find that technological convergence increased over time and what technology was in the center of fusion. Second, our correlation analysis found that as we had more technological convergence, it was more related to the sales in relevant industries.

  • The aim of this study is to look into the influential factors on the care-workers-perceived job stress level according as the elderly-perceived satisfaction varies depending on care workers' organizational characteristic & attitudes toward work, and there's necessity of reducing their job stress. Hereupon, this study, targeting the care workers at domiciliary visit care centers in Seoul district, analyzed the influential factors of organizational factors consisting of the sub-factors, such as job autonomy, compensation, education and development, members' interrelationship, etc. on the perception level of job stress. As a result of analysis, it was found that the shorter their working hours, the more their salary, the more guaranteed their job autonomy, and the better their interrelationship is, the care workers at a domiciliary visit care center had a positive perception of job stress. Accordingly, the operators of domiciliary visit care centers are requested to have a lot more concerns for diverse forms of improvements which can not only improve care workers' working conditions, such as daily working hours and a pay level but also promote a sense of fellowship between members; in addition, it is hoped that the operators should improve the organizational environment so that care workers can freely carry out their assigned business with a sense of responsibility rather than relying on control and regulation.

  • A 5 days working system and a 6 days working system will be put in force at a food service consumption behavior of company workers. As a 5 days working system have adopted company, which the number of employee is more than 50, from July 1, 2007. The purpose of this paper is to study the In food service consumption behavior of company workers. There is no doubt that it is only way of surviving In current society to analyze the change of social situation and actively cope with the development. Especially, in the field of restaurant industries, they have to be equipped with a great store of experience and skill, theory and practical business, pertinent and rapid disposal. Consequently, it is very important to know the objective and practical knowledge for the restaurant industries trend by having a through grasp of the need of consumer and their propensity to consume. In order to study motives of eating-out and restaurants selection, office workers, who live in the national capital region, are interviewed. The period of interview is from Oct 1 to Nov 20, 2007. According to the result of interview, The most workers prefer to eating-out on week with family and friends. But family is eating-out the more preference to weekend compare to friends. And it is deduced that restaurant near tourist resorts or outside the city rather than in downtown will be prosperous with this result. That is to say, workers go out to eat delicious food regardless of traffic problem and distance, with the increase of national income and the car holding. This paper is worthy of notice in terms of trying to find the relevance between the working system and the restaurant industries development. In after research, I expect the more synthetic and deeper study should be made though the more technical methods.

  • This paper examines the recently empirical test for the two types of endogenous growth models, which one is more fitted to real data. We adopt the non-stationary panel data methodologies for seeking empirical implication by using productivity and R&D data in the OECD over the past two decades. The Empirical tests show that there is a robust relationship Total Factor Productivity and R&D variables implied by semi-endogenous growth model. The relationship suggested by fully endogenous growth theory, however, is sensitive to R&D variables. Therefore, the estimation results provide empirical evidence in favour of endogenous growth theory of R&D expenditure role for sustaining economic growth. The sustained Total Factor Productivity, however, is maintained by more increasing R&D inputs for overcoming diminishing return to R&D efforts.
