  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate stress-coping level and to determine the significant predictor of nurses' stress-coping in schoolwork. Methods: This study was based on the questionnaire survey carried out among 340 nurses in schoolwork at Korea National Open University. The questionnaire included the general factor, schoolwork related factor, health related factor, work related factor, stress level and stress-coping level. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Results: The mean score of stress-coping level was 2.23 (SD=0.27). Time for study, exercise, and work as well as stress on daily life and job stress were significant predictors of nurses' stress-coping level in schoolwork. Conclusion: Findings of this study can be an important resource to improve stress-coping strategies of nurses in schoolwork.

Methods: The subjects were 312 dual earner couples selected from G city by convenient sampling. The data were collected from October 1 to November 10, 2009, and analyzed using frequencies, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient with the SPSS/WIN 17.0. Results: The mean score of family stress and HPB on the subjects were 2.98 and 3.29 respectively. Family stress showed a significant difference according to monthly income. HPB showed a significant difference according to exercise, smoking, and drinking. HPB had a significantly positive correlation with family stress. Conclusion: This study suggested that we should develop programs to increase regular exercise and to quit drinking and smoking for the dual earner couples in occupational health nursing.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was identify the influences of occupational stress and burnout on turnover intention of caregivers in geriatric hospitals. Methods: The data were collected from 176 caregivers working at three geriatric hospitals located in Gyeonggi province. A self-reported questionnaires was used to assess the level of occupational stress, burnout and turnover intention. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression by SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Results: The turnover intention was positively correlated with occupational stress(r=.438, p<.01) and burnout(r=.418, p<.01). The influencing factors of turnover intention were occupational stress(${\beta}$=.290, p<.001), burnout(${\beta}$=.253, p=.001) and education level(${\beta}$=.182, p=.006). Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that it is necessary to develop stress management program so that caregivers in geriatric hospitals can reduce occupational stress and burnout.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the trends of nurses' stress based on the last 10 years of international research and to suggest directions for future research. Methods: Fifty three articles between 2002 and 2011 were selected using key words such as 'nurse' and 'stress' from the PubMed and CINAHL. Results: The number of experimental studies increased. The nurses from the various fields were studied. Most studies used a reliable and valid tool for measuring stress of specific nursing staff. The Internet survey was recently used for a data collection method. Significant variables correlated with nurses' stress were categorized into 8 domains: Individual susceptibility, quantitative workload, qualitative workload, physical environment, organizational factors, and interpersonal conflict. Conclusion: In Korea, the next phase of research on nurses' stress needs to consider the experimental study design to find more specific causal relationships. Also, it is necessary to develop the nurses' stress tool for reliable and valid measurement.

Results: The job stress level of subjects was 47.45, coping type was 2.38 and the level of subjects' job satisfaction was 2.97. The job satisfaction was very closely negatively correlated with the job stress (r=-.66, p<.001). Conclusion: These results may contribute to better understanding of stress degree, coping type, and job satisfaction in firefighters. Further follow-up study on firefighters is necessary to relieve their job stress and increase active coping type.
