  • This paper proposes the improved orthogonal projection method as a new technique advancing the performance of the echo cancellation for speeches in the acoustic echo canceller. Comparing with the used NLMS adaptive algorithm, it shows that this method improves the performance of the echo cancellation for signals with the large auto-correlation. In order to testify performances of the orthogonal projection method whom this paper proposes, we have coded a simulation program and executed computer simulations. We observed convergence curves by using two adaptive algorithm for noises and speeches. From simulation results for two input signals, the proposed method shows the high ERLE and the fast convergence and the stable operation in case of using speeches as well as noises.

  • This paper is on an simplified orthogonal projection method which cancel the acoustic echo signals in the stereo acoustic echo canceller. Comparing with the NLMS algorithm which is widely used for simplicity and stability, it shows that this method has the improvement of the convergence performances for signals with the high auto-correlation, and has small computational quantities. To verify the convergence characteristics of the proposed algorithm, we simulated about various input signals. And we compared the results of simulation for this algorithm with the ones for the NLMS algorithm. By these works, it was proved that the stereo acoustic echo canceller adopting the proposed algorithm shows about 3dB more high ERLE than the NLMS algorithm for the white noise signals, and 5dB for the colored voice signals.

  • In this paper, we propose an enhanced algorithm for affine projection algorithms which have been proposed to speed up the convergence of the conventional NLMS algorithm. Since affine projection (AP) or pseudo AP algorithms are based on the delayed input vector and error vector, they are complicated and not suitable for applying methods developed for the LMS-type algorithms which are based on the scalar error signal. We devised a variable step size algorithm for pseudo AP using the fact that pseudo AP algorithms are updated using the scalar error and that the error signal is getting orthogonal to the input signal. We carried out a performance comparison of the proposed algorithm with other pseudo AP algorithms using a system identification model. It is shown that the proposed algorithm presents good convergence characteristics under both stationary and non-stationary environments despites its low complexity.

  • Applying the maximally polyphase decomposition and noble identity to the adaptive filter in subband structure, the conventional fullband affine projection algorithm is translated to the subband affine projection (SAP) algorithm. The Maximally polyphase decomposed SAP (MPDSAP) algorithm is a special version of the SAP algorithm, and its adaptive sub-filters have unity projection dimension. The weight updating formular of the MPDSAP is similar to that of the NLMS algorithm, so it may be more proper algorithm than other AP-type algorithms for many practical applications. This paper presents a new statistical analysis of the MPDSAP algorithm. The analytical model is derived for autoregressive (AR) inputs and the nonunity adaptive gain in the subband structure with the orthonormal analysis filters (OAF), The pre-whitening by the OAF allows the derivation of a simple-analytical model for the MPDSAP with the AR inputs and the nonunity adaptive gain.

  • To obtain accurate target information in a radar system, clutter or interference signals must first be effectively removed for target detection. In this paper, the signal is projected onto a constrained orthogonal subspace, so that a minimum variance optimal detector is transformed into an unconstrained detector. The proposed algorithm is equivalent to the conventional optimal detector algorithm, and th algorithm structure shows that the Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization can be achieved to obtain the fast convergence. The performance of the proposed method was observed by simulation experiments.

  • This paper presents the subband affine projection algorithm(SAPA). The improved performance of SAPA is achieved by applying the affine projection algorithm to the subband adaptive structure. In this algorithm, the weight updating formula of adaptive filter is simply derived by using the orthogonal quadrature filter(OQF) as an analysis filter bank for subband filtering. The derived SAPA has the fast convergence speed and small computational complexity. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm for colored input signal is evaluated through some experiments.

  • In this paper, we propose a new function embedding method that can measure mathematical projections of probability amplitude, probability, average expectation and matrix elements of stationary-state unit matrix at all control operation points of quantum gates. The function embedding method in this paper is to embed orthogonal normalization condition of probability amplitude for each control operating point into a binary scalar operator by using Dirac symbol and Kronecker delta symbol. Such a function embedding method is a very effective means of controlling the arithmetic power function of a unitary gate in a unitary transformation which expresses a quantum gate function as a tensor product of a single quantum. We present the results of evolutionary operation and projective measurement when we apply the proposed function embedding method to the ternary 2-qutrit cNOT gate and compare it with the existing methods.

  • This paper is on an improved orthogonal projection method which can cancel the acoustic feedback signals in the digital hearing aids. Comparing with the NLMS algorithm which is widely used for simplicity and stability, it shows that this method has the improvement of the convergence performances, and has small computational quantities, for signals with the large auto-correlation as speech signals. This uses the improved orthogonal projection algorithm which reduces the correlation of signals. To verify the convergence characteristics of the proposed algorithm, we simulated about various input signals. The acoustic feedback canceller has a 12-bit resolution with 64-tap adaptive FIR filter. And we compared the results of simulation for this algorithm with the ones for the NLMS algorithm. By these works, it is proved that the feedback canceller adopting the proposed algorithm shows about 3.5dB more high SNR than the NLMS algorithm in the colored input signals.

  • Within the last several years, there has been a large number of algorithms developed for face recognition. The majority of these algorithms have been view- and projection-based algorithms. Our definition of projection is not restricted to projecting the image onto an orthogonal basis the definition is expansive and includes a general class of linear transformation of the image pixel values. The class includes correlation, principal component analysis, clustering, gray scale projection, and matching pursuit filters. In this paper, we perform a detailed analysis of this class of algorithms by evaluating them on the FERET database of facial images. In our experiments, a projection-based algorithms consists of three steps. The first step is done off-line and determines the new basis for the images. The bases is either set by the algorithm designer or is learned from a training set. The last two steps are on-line and perform the recognition. The second step projects an image onto the new basis and the third step recognizes a face in an with a nearest neighbor classifier. The classification is performed in the projection space. Most evaluation methods report algorithm performance on a single gallery. This does not fully capture algorithm performance. In our study, we construct set of independent galleries. This allows us to see how individual algorithm performance varies over different galleries. In addition, we report on the relative performance of the algorithms over the different galleries.
