The harbor back area is not a planned space, but rather a space created by harbor space development. For this reason, the residential environment in the area behind the port has been very poor from the past to the present. Recently, the redevelopment has been increasing in accordance with the function of the port space. However, the development of the domestic port space is limited to the port space, and there is still little preparation for improvement of the residential environment in the port area. In this study, the degree of decline of the port area was diagnosed and analyzed for the purpose of deriving urban regeneration scenarios to improve the residential environment of port - backed areas. The urban regeneration factor to improve the livability of the port - backed area, which has been declining since then, was derived, and the scenarios in which each factor was applied were constructed.

Shipping and ports have important roles as the nodes and links in maritime logistics. The environment between shipping and ports is interrelated and has been changing' together. Recently, the changes of shipping and ports are rapidly in progress and it is expected to be developed complementarily. Especially, mega carriers reduce the number of ports of calls because the size of ships is becoming bigger and bigger and the 'hub and spokes' strategy is appeared. Therefore, the position of a hub port by the region has questioned This paper aims to research the competitive ports by the region on the basis of the patterns when mega carriers call at ports. Six regions, Far East, Southeast Asia, Northwest America, Northeast America, West Europe and Mediterranean, are organized for this research. According to the volume of cargoes, the top five ports of each region are analyzed. As a result, the competitive ports by the region are Shanghai, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, New York New Jersey, Rotterdam and Gioia Tauro.

The subject of port efficiency is one of the important issues facing port authorities and policy makers today. A number of studies have been undertaken which compare ports in terms of their efficiency. But any port comparison can only be valid and meaningful if a port’s efficiency is compared with a similar port. The main objective of this paper is to introduce a systematic approach to identifying similar ports based on the technique of principal component analysis and cluster analysis. And it seeks to identify the most important factors underlying the port classification. Lack of awareness of which factors differentiate ports has resulted in an unnecessary collection of data which are of limited use in port classification. This paper has identified five groupings of similar ports within which port comparision can be justifiably made. This approach can be used for any future port comparision.

우리나라 해운 항만 물류기업의 국제물류 서비스 향상 및 글로벌 경쟁력 강화를 위한 방안 가운데 하나는 해외 현지 물류네크워크 구축이며 이를 통해 고객이 원하는 물류서비스 제공 및 글로벌 시장 내 경쟁력 확보 차원에서 필수적이다. 그러나 아직까지 필리핀 물류시장에 대한 우리나라의 해운 항만 물류기업 진출 및 투자 지원에 관한 체계적인 연구는 미흡한 실정이다. 따라서 인도에 진출하는 우리나라 화주기업 및 물류기업의 물류 애로사항 해소 지원, 해운 물류기업의 경쟁력 강화 등 정부차원의 다양한 정책과 지원 사업에 관한 연구가 필요하다. 이에 본 연구는 필리핀 항만물류시장의 현황을 분석한 후 향후 우리나라 해운 항만 물류기업들이 물류 네트워크 구축 방안을 수립하는데 있어 투자대상 시설 및 투자 유망지역 등 다양한 정보를 제공하는데 그 목적이 있다. 필리핀 물류시장을 면밀히 파악하는 것뿐만 아니라 필리핀 경제, 인프라 현황, 기업 분포 등 다양한 지표 분석을 통해 물류서비스 경쟁력 제고에 기여할 수 있는 투자 유망지역을 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study is to suggest the new port development concepts in relation to the Mokpo port development. To analysis, we examine the relationship between the trade volumes which the port have and the capacities of the port facilities with 8 Korean seaport data. As a result of analysis, the trade volumes of port were found to be the major factors positively influencing the capacities of the port facilities in Korean ports. This findings shows that Mokpo port which trying to increase the trade volumes should have the new alternatives for Mokpo regional development. The new alternatives on the Mokpo Port's development are the model which constructing the Free Trade Zone(FTZ) and port city.

There has been abundant empirical research undertaken on the technical efficiency of Korean ports. Most studies have focused on the use of parametric and non-parametric techniques to analyse overall technical efficiency. This paper utilizes data for the period 2000-07 to offer a heterogeneous perspective on the overall efficiency of Korean ports. The framework assumes that ports use one input to produce one output; the output and input include port export(import) and regional export(import). This paper also employs panel analysis and heteroscedastic Tobit model to show the effect of the explanatory variables on the port efficiencies. The panel analysis shows that the regional export/total export has negative effect on the export efficiency while the regional import/total import has not any relations with the import efficiency. The heteroskedastic Tobit model shows that both regional export ratio and regional import ratio have negative effects on the efficiency while the gross regional domestic product has not any significant relations with the import efficiency.

Korea has achieved a remarkable growth by pursuing externally-oriented growth policy since 1960s. That is, we imported raw materials and spare parts, manufactured them into products and exported them, which led to successful economic development. Therefore, our marine business has played an important roles as one of key industries. The development of marine business has contributed to efficient distribution and cost reduction in addition to production of added value and creation of employment creation, which improved external competitive power. In spite of economic importance of marine business, national perception on it is in general low and its developmental conditions are considerably poor. Therefore, this study aims to speculate the effect of Port-related business on regional economy using regional input-output tables.

This study aims to reveal how a port affects the living conditions of its neighborhood area with a case study of Pusan New Port and to suggest several implications to port policy. PLS-SEM reflective measurement model satisfies the criteria on reliability and validity, and also structural model meets the criteria in terms of R2, path coefficients' significance and predictive relevance(Q2). The results of PLS-SEM support the hypotheses of this study: The expansion of Pusan New Port contributes to the improvement of living conditions of Gangseo-gu(nearby area) through its significant and sequential effects on the employment and population increase of Gangseo-gu. The originality of this study can be found in enunciating that a port plays a role as a driving force of the betterment of living conditions of its nearby Gu-level area. In terms of policy, central and local governments and port related companies should cooperate with each other to reinforce the acceptability of port policy through the improvement of the living conditions of port neighborhood area. To evaluate comprehensively the influence of a port on its neighborhood area, a further study needs to identify how a port affects the quality of life of the area or what kinds of socio-economic effects a port has on the area.

부산항에서 환적되어 일본으로 향하는 화물을 대상으로 각 일본항만까지의 해상운송에 지역별 JR(Japan Rail) 컨테이너센터까지의 내륙운송을 합한 이동경로와 비용에 관한 측면을 조사하여 이를 시나리오 분석을 이용하여 연구를 수행하였다. 일본을 네 개의 지역으로 나누어 일본의 항만을 큐슈, 동부, 중부, 관서지역으로 구분하였으며, 일본 주요대형항만과 중소형항만을 비교하여 효율적인 운송루트를 찾는 것에 중점을 두고 분석을 수행하였다.
