  • Library and information science(LIS) research has been dominated by functionalistic orientation as one of the postulates of positivism. As a result, it has often been criticized that LIS research does not take into account the social, cultural, political, and economic contexts on which the theories and the practices of LIS are based. In this regard, this paper seeks to establish and apply critical inquiry through a review of the relevant aspects of critical theory and application of those insights to current research and practice in LIS. Connections of LIS research to relevant political, social and economic issues are particularly stressed.

  • This study is to establish the domains and the standards of instructional evaluation on the teacher knowledge dealing with the knowledge of 'teaching and learning methods and assessment'. Especially, in this study, the instruction assessment standards are developed focused on the six types of mathematics competencies such as problem solving, communication, reasoning, creativity and collaboration, information and handling, attitude and practice which were emphasized in the mathematical curriculum revised in 2015. By the result, seventh evaluation domains such as an instruction involving problem-solving activity, an instruction involving reasoning activity, instruction involving communication activity, instruction on information and handling activity, instruction involving learners' achievement level and attitude, instruction involving the development of assessment method and tool, instruction applying on assessment result were new established. According to those domains, the 19 instructional evaluation standards were developed totally. This study is limited to consider the domain of 'teaching and learning methods and assessment' among the domains of teacher knowledge, while dealing with the elements of mathematics competencies in the standards. However, instructional evaluation standards reflecting these competencies should be developed in the other diverse domains of teacher knowledge.

  • This study presents a probabilistic knowledge discovery method to interpret heart rate variability (HRV) based on time and frequency domain indexes, extracted using discrete wavelet transform. The knowledge induction algorithm was composed of two phases: rule generation and rule estimation. Firstly, a rule generation converts numerical attributes to intervals using ROC curve analysis and constructs a reduced ruleset by comparing consistency degree between attribute-value pairs with different decision values. Then, we estimated three measures such as rule support, confidence, and coverage to a probabilistic interpretation for each rule. To show the effectiveness of proposed model, we evaluated the statistical discriminant power of five rules (3 for atrial fibrillation, 1 for normal sinus rhythm, and 1 for both atrial fibrillation and normal sinus rhythm) generated using a data (n=58) collected from 1 channel wireless holter electrocardiogram (ECG), i.e., HeartCall$^{(R)}$, U-Heart Inc. The experimental result showed the performance of approximately 0.93 (93%) in terms of accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and AUC measures, respectively.

  • Expert system is one of AI area which was came out at the end of 19705s. It simulates the human's way of thinking to give solutions of Problem in many applications. Most expert system consists of many components such as inference engine, knowledge base, and so on. Especially the performance of expert system depends on the control of enfficiency of inference engine. Inference engine has to get features; tirst, if possible to minimize restrictions when the knowledge base is constructed second, it has to serve various kinds of inferencing methods. In this paper, we design and implement the inference engine which is able to support the general functions to knowledge domain and inferencing method. For the purpose, forward chaining, backward chaining, and direct chaining was employed as an inferencing method in order to be able to be used by user request selectively. Also we not on1y selected production system which makes one ease staradization and modulation to obtain knowledges in target domain, but also constructed knowledge base by means of Extended Clause Bit Metrics (ECBM). Finally, the performance evaluation of inference engine between Rete pattern matching and ECBM has been done.

  • This article aims at providing implication for teacher preparation program through interpreting pre-service teachers' knowledge by using Shulman-Fischbein framework. Shulman-Fischbein framework combines two dimensions (SMK and PCK) from Shulman with three components of mathematical knowledge (algorithmic, formal, and intuitive) from Fischbein, which results in six cells about teachers' knowledge (mathematical algorithmic-, formal-, intuitive- SMK and mathematical algorithmic-, formal-, intuitive- PCK). To accomplish the purpose, five pre-service teachers participated in this research and they performed a series of tasks that were designed to investigate their SMK and PCK with regard to students' misconception in the area of geometry. The analysis revealed that pre-service teachers had fairly strong SMK in that they could solve the problems of tasks and suggest prerequisite knowledge to solve the problems. They tended to emphasize formal aspect of mathematics, especially logic, mathematical rigor, rather than algorithmic and intuitive knowledge. When they analyzed students' misconception, pre-service teachers did not deeply consider the levels of students' thinking in that they asked 4-6 grade students to show abstract and formal thinking. When they suggested instructional strategies to correct students' misconception, pre-service teachers provided superficial answers. In order to enhance their knowledge of students, these findings imply that pre-service teachers need to be provided with opportunity to investigate students' conception and misconception.

  • Ball, Thames & Phelps(2008) introduced the idea of Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching(MKT) teacher. Specialized Content Knowledge(SCK) is one of six categories in MKT. SCK is a knowledge base, useful especially for math teachers to analyze errors, evaluate alternative ideas, give mathematical explanations and use mathematical representation. The purpose of this study is to analyze the elementary teacher's SCK. 29 six graders made word problems with respect to division fraction $9/10{\div}2/5$. These word problems were classified four sentence types based on Sinicrope, Mick & Kolb(2002) and then representative four sentence types were given to 10 teachers who have taught six graders. Data analysis was conducted through the teachers' evaluation of the answers(word problems) and revision of students' mathematical errors. This study showed how to know meanings of fraction division for effective teaching. Moreover, it suggested several implications to develop SCK for teaching and learning.

  • The nuclear knowledge management is now being operated in the KAERI and also actively practiced in other member states of the IAEA. The INIS secretariat leads the knowledge management. As the traditional service areas of librarians are decreasing, the knowledge management is considered as a promising service area replacing the traditional librarian's role. This new area is in Blue Ocean and needs to great concern and understanding. INIS is the world's leading information system on the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. INIS is operated by the IAEA in collaboration with its member states and cooperating international organizations. INIS has more than 2.7 million items and provides users a comprehensive information reference service for literature in nuclear science and technology. The input amount ranks fifth in the world and it operates the INIS 2 host site. INIS in Korea is playing a leading role in the IAEA.

  • An online experiment was conducted to test the subject-knowledge view of relevance theory in order to find evidence of a conceptual basis for relevance. Six experts in Library and Information Science (LIS), nine Master's students of LIS, and twelve non-experts judged the relevance of 14 abstracts within and outside of the LIS domain. Consistency among the judges was calculated by joint-probability agreement (PA) and interclass correlation coefficients (ICC). When using PA to analyze the judgements, non-experts had a higher consensus regardless of the task or division of groups. However, ICC calculations found Master's candidates had a higher level of consensus than non-experts within LIS, although the experts did not; and the agreement rates on the non-LIS task for all groups were only poor to moderate. It was only when the groups were analyzed as two groups (experts including Master's candidates and non-experts) that the expected trend of higher consistency among experts in the LIS task was seen.
