A Study on the Application of RFID to Teaching-Learning in u-Learning Environment (u-러닝 환경에서 RFID의 교수-학습 적용에 관한 연구)

  • With the advent of ubiquitous society, the paradigm of education is also changing. In u-learning in ubiquitous environment, mobile devices such as cellular phone, PDA, PMP, UMPC and TPC will become important learning tools. Particularly if RFID, a key technology in ubiquitous society, is utilized in teaching-learning along with mobile devices, we can expect much more meaningful learning. The present study proposed four types of application of RFID to teaching.learning, which were RFID-card, RFID-book, RFID-label and RFID-test, and examined their possibility and effectiveness. According to the results of this study, technology was insufficient to support the application of RFID-label to teaching-learning and continuous research was required for modeling the application of RFID to teaching-learning.

The Effect of Peer Tutoring and Learner Characteristics on Academic Achievement and Self-efficacy in Computer Education (컴퓨터 실습 수업에서 동료교수법과 학습자의 성향이 학업 성취도 및 자기효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • This study focuses on applying the peer tutoring as an alternative instructional method in computer education. The purpose of this study is two folds: first, to examine the effect of peer tutoring on academic achievement; and second, to investigate the effect of peer tutoring on self-efficacy on learning about computer. To achieve the purpose, an experimental research was performed with 130 10th graders. The results showed no significant differences between the two groups on academic achievement, and among four groups of peer tutoring. However, there are significant differences on learners' self-efficacy.

Designing Programming Curriculum for Developing Programming Pedagogical Content Knowledge of Pre-service Informatics Teachers (예비교사의 프로그래밍 교수내용지식 향상을 위한 프로그래밍 교육프로그램 설계)

  • This study is for developing a programming education course to improve pre-service teachers' pedagogical content knowledge(PCK) of programming education. A 40-hour training course was designed with App Inventor, a block-based mobile programming environment, and with problem-based learning method and project-based learning method. After the curriculum was adopted to 12 undergraduate students, the effect of education was tested with a programming PCK questionnaire. As a result, after a 20-hour problem-based learning class, overall score and teaching method score were enhanced significantly. After another 20-hour project-based learning class, content knowledge, teaching method, and curriculum score were improved.

  • Recently, robot programming education are suggested for elementary students. However, the degree of class participation of female students was low because of the failure of the recognition of female students' inclination when they chose contents and instructional strategies. Thus, this paper analyzed the gender differences of interests of elementary students have in robot programming through questionnaire and suggested the robot programming instructional strategies considered gender differences through reviewing literature in such areas as gender differences in computer learning and programming learning, and effective instructional strategies. Furthermore, the validity of the instructional strategies which are suggested was verified by experts. Through this research, the researcher expects for the researcher findings to be bases for a more active participation of female students in computer field.

  • This study addresses the plan and methods of teaching/learning ethical aspects of science in the secondary schools, which were developed by the authors based on their 3 year research on ethical aspects of science and its teaching/learning. The general teaching/learning plan is composed of the instructional objectives of teaching/learning ethical aspect of science, its teaching/learning method and strategies, curricular content, and assessment. The article also attempted to describe a few words of care to keep in mind when apply the model and methods in the science classrooms.

Development of a teaching-learning model for effective algorithm education (효과적인 알고리즘 교육을 위한 교수-학습 모형 개발)

  • The importance of algorithm education has been emphasized for creative problem-solving capability. Especially, algorithm teaching materials related with mathematics and science are under development to enhance logical thinking. However, there are not enough teaching-learning models applicable in the field of education. Therefore, this paper proposed a teaching-learning model for effective algorithm education. The teaching-learning model reflects two characteristics : an algorithm learning process is spiral, and algorithm education is based on logical thinking. Furthermore, a survey was conducted for students' satisfaction, and the result was a mixed teaching-learning model with PBL, SDL, and peer tutoring. Based on the proposed model, examples of classes for mathematics and science are suggested to show the feasibility of effective algorithm education.

  • The Teaching & Learning Center plays an important role in increasing the expertise of instructors and for directing the diffusion of innovation not only in primary & secondary education but also in education at the university level. In this study, the Performance Evaluation Model is devised and developed for improving the competency of the Teaching & Learning Center. It consists of three domains - (a) the planning domain, (b) the process domain, and (c) the performance domain - and 11 external indices and 8 internal indices. The Performance Evaluation Index and Guidelines are proposed based on this model.

  • Learning analytic has been utilized to helps us to successfully complete the course by using the interaction of the teacher and the learner data generated from the teaching and learning support system. In other words, Learning analytic is a method in order to understand the activities of learners. In the learning analytic, the data model is needed in order to utilize the more useful for teaching and learning activities data. Therefore, in this study, we propose a user centric data model of learning styles and learning objects. This model is expressed by aggregating of user learning style, learning objects, and learning activities. The proposed model is significant that laid the foundation for analyzing the activities of the learners in course units.

  • This study aims to evaluate research performance of Library and Information Science faculty in Korea. By doing so, this study explores the possibility of enhancing research quality in the field of Library and Information Science. According to a survey to the faculty members, 41 respondents published a total of 49 monographs and 239 journal articles during the five year period from 2003 to 2007. The result shows variations in individual scholars publications. Suggestions were made for the improvement of research performance in terms of quality and quantity.

Development of Teacher-training for Improvement of Teaching Efficacy of Technology Teacher (기술교사의 교수효능감 향상을 위한 직무연수 개발)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop teacher-training for improvement of teaching efficacy of technology teacher. The study was carried out through Delphi research method. It was executed for investigating the professional and wide-range opinions of expert panel to examine the validity. The validity was confirmed by concurrence ratio, convergence ratio, contents validity ratio (CVR). Major results of this study were as follows: First, necessity, nature, purpose of teacher-training for improvement of teaching efficacy of technology teacher was set up. And this teacher-training have 12 objectives in 3 domains (cognitive, affective, psychomotor). Second, contents of this teacher-training were designed to be applicable for 10 modules (300 hours). For example, module1 (introduction of technology education), module2 (construction technology), module3 (information communication technology), etc. Third, educational method, training educator, evaluation method of this teacher-training were developed. Fourth, each module of this teacher-training is 30 hours in length. And summer or winter vacation is appropriate for this teacher-training time. Appropriate teacher-training time is six hours a day. Fifth, roles of educational institution for this teacher-training were suggested. Sixth, strategies to vitalize this teacher-training were suggested.
