  • This research studies the perception to gifted education teachers between the middle school gifted education for STEAM and Convergence Gifted Education for revitalizing Convergence Gifted Education. The conclusions according to the analysis, it shows that the awareness of gifted education teachers for Convergence Gifted Education is lower than the level of the awareness for STEAM, and it appears that the Gifted education teachers especially has the experience adapting Convergence Gifted Education who awareness for Convergence Gifted Education is the highest. On the other hand, not only teachers has the experience adapting Convergence Gifted Education and the very poorly recognition for the task of Comprehensive Plan for Gifted Education promotion including the development of an creative and convergence content, a they has the very low experience for the development. And it analyzes that although there is no meaningful differences, teachers who are in science gifted teachers and the mature experienced man realizes very optimistically the necessity need of Convergence Gifted Education. Therefore, it analyzes that recognition to the necessity need of Convergence Gifted Education is reinforced through the training for the gifted teachers in the mathematics gifted education and in less teaching experience. But it points out that answers over the majority cognized to resemble the Convergence Gifted Education and STEAM, though the object is only different. Furthermore, it suggests that the differentiated Convergence Gifted Education curriculum providing the suitableness for the characteristic and level is needed for the desirable fixedness.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the research trends of 114 papers about mathematical creativity published in domestic journals from 1997 to 2011 with regard to the years, objects, subjects, and methods of such research. The research of mathematical creativity education has been studied since 2000. The frequent objects in the research were non-human, middle and high school students, elementary students, gifted students, teachers (in-service and pre-service), and kindergarteners in order. The research on the teaching methods of mathematical creativity, the general study of mathematical creativity, or the measurement and the evaluation of mathematical creativity was active, whereas that of dealing with curricula and textbooks was rare. The qualitative research method was more frequently used than the quantitative research one. The mixed research method was hardly used. On the basis of these results, this paper shows how mathematical creativity was studied until now and gives some implications for the future research direction in mathematical creativity.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze characteristics of problem solving in mathematics for gifted students through case study on solving the mathematical problem for gifted students, and to investigate what are relationships with the cognitive and affective characteristics. To this end, this study was to analyze the characteristics on the problem solving in mathematics by using qualitative research method after it selected two students who had specific education for brilliant students. As a result, this study has shown that it had high preference for question with clear answer, high preference for individual inquiry learning, high adhesion to answer for question, and high adhesion for assignment on characteristics of process of problem solving, but there was much difference in spirit of competition. As to the characteristics of thoughts in problem solving, this study has shown that it had high grasp capacity, intuitive insight, and capacity for visualization, but there were differences in capacity for generalization and adaptability. However, both two students had low values in deductive thought. In addition, as to the home environment and cognitive and affective characteristics, they were not related to the characteristics on problem solving directly, but it has shown that it affected each other indirectly. As to the conclusion of this study, this researcher thinks that it will be valuable documentation in order to improve curriculum, development of textbooks, and teaching method for special education for the gifted students and education for secondary mathematics.

  • This paper researches the possibility of introducing Descartes' theorem to mathematically gifted students. Not only is Descartes' theorem logically equivalent to Euler's theorem but is hierarchically connected with Gauss-Bonnet theorem which is the core concept on differential geometry. It is possible to teach mathematically gifted students Descartes' theorem by generalizing mathematical property in solid geometry through analogical reasoning, that is, so in a polyhedrons the sum of the deficient angles is $720^\circ$ as in an polygon the sum of the exterior angles is $360^\circ$. This study introduces an alternative method of instruction that we enable mathematically gifted students to reinvent Descartes' theorem through analogical reasoning instead of deductive reasoning.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate how the mathematical creativity of middle school mathematical gifted students is represented through the process of problem posing activities. For this goal, they were asked to pose real-world problems similar to the tasks which had been solved together in advance. This study demonstrated that just 2 of 15 pupils showed mathematical giftedness as well as mathematical creativity. And selecting mathematically creative and gifted pupils through creative problem-solving test consisting of problem solving tasks should be conducted very carefully to prevent missing excellent candidates. A couple of pupils who have been exerting their efforts in getting private tutoring seemed not overcoming algorithmic fixation and showed negative attitude in finding new problems and divergent approaches or solutions, though they showed excellence in solving typical mathematics problems. Thus, we conclude that it is necessary to incorporate problem posing tasks as well as multiple solution tasks into both screening process of gifted pupils and mathematics gifted classes for effective assessing and fostering mathematical creativity.

  • It has been said that the level of teacher professionalism determines the quality of education. The same notion allies for gifted education. Therefore, exploration of teacher professionalism in gifted education may provide fundamental bases for raising the quality of gifted education. In this study, first, literature review was conducted to extract elements of teacher professionalism in gifted education and a survey instrument was developed to find out categories of those elements and differences of teacher perception to professionalism at school levels and subject areas of gifted education. Research subjects included 212 teachers who participated in 2005 KEDI teacher training program of gifted education, 60 hour-clock introductory program and 232 teachers who participated in 2005 KEDI teacher training program of gifted education, 120 hour-clock enrichment program. It was found that elements of teacher professionalism in gifted education were categorized into knowledge-based, abilitybased and context-based. It was also found that secondary school teachers' perception to knowledge-based professionalism was significantly higher than those at elementary and science teachers' perception to ability-based and context-based professionalism was significantly higher than mathematics teachers. The research findings may provide insights for better teacher training program in gifted education as well as gifted education policies.
