  • This paper presents the test results of 24 beam-end specimens to investigate the effect of concrete strength and cover thickness on the development resistance capacity in tensile lap splice length regions. The results showed that as higher strength concrete was employed, nor only development resistance capacity was influenced by cover thickness, but also more sufficient safety factor reserved shorter than the lap splice length provision in current design code. From experimental research results, high-strength concrete development length was not inverse ratio of ($\sqrt{f_{ck}}$) but directly inverse of $f_{ck}$, and it is also said that there is a certain limit length of the embedded steel over which the assumption of uniform bond stress distribution is valid specially for high-strength concrete not having a same embed length such as normal-strength concrete in current design criteria hypothesis.

  • Some test results indicated that the current ASTM grip adapter of GFRP rebar was not successful in developing the design tensile strength of GFRP rebar with reasonable accuracy. It is because the current ASTM grip adapter of GFRP rebar does not take into account the various geometric characteristics of GFRP rebar such as surface treatment, shape of bar cross section, bar deformation as well as physical characteristics such as poisson effect, elastic modulus in the transverse direction and so on. The research reported in this paper is to provide how to proportion an adequate grip adapter to develop design tensile properties of GFRP rebar. The proposed grip adapter is derived from the equilibrium or compatibility equations. From the preliminary test results for rounded GFRP rebar, it was found that the grip adapter with specific size proportioned by proposed method shows the highest tensile strength among them.

  • In this paper, a high speed motor drive system using an indirect adaptive neural network controller is proposed. In the variable high speed motor drives, the speed response can be deteriorated by long settling time and high overshoot. To obtain a good dynamical performance, an adaptive feedforward controller consisted of Neural Network Controller(NNC) and Neural Network Emulator(NNE) is applied. The NNE is used to identify the parameters and characteristics of high speed motor. To train the controller, the weights are dynamically adjusted using the back propagation algorithm. Computer simulation and implementation of the proposed system is described.

  • In ACI 318-19 published recently, the conditions and development length equation to use the headed deformed bars were changed considerably. Although the use of the larger-diameter(No.14 and 18) headed deformed bars isn't yet permitted, the use of the high strength(80,000psi) headed deformed bars is permitted and the effect of bar-diameter($d_b$) on the development length is increased considerably. Therefore, structures using larger-diameter headed deformed bars will be expected to be affected by this code change. We will study the effect of the code change on the development design and find out the design optimization method to minimize the effect of the changed conditions and development length equation.

  • Composite slab with deckplate needs sufficient bond strength between deckplate and concrete to conduct composite behavior Composite slab can transfer the shear by either chemical adhesion interface interlock, or active friction. There are several way of mechanical shear connection in composite slab. that is embossments shear connector shape of deckplate etc. Effect of mechanical interaction is deped on shape of deckplate which is to prevent peeling between deckplate and concrete and an amount of shear connector. The behavior and strength of the connection between the decking and the concrete slab due to embossments and end anchorage may be estimated using the push-off tests described in this paper We proposed the equation of shear bond strength in the composite slab It will be use to design by basic data in composite slab.

  • In this dissertation, experimental research was carried out to study the hysteretic behavior of reinforced high-strength concrete beam-column joints designed by high performance techniques, such as application of high-strength concrete, reducing of joint regions damage, moving of beam plastic hinge, advanced reinforcing detailings and High Ductile Fiber-Reinforced Mortar.(HDFRM) Specimens(HJCI), designed by the development of earthquake-resistant performance, moving of beam plastic hinge, and new design approach, were attained the moving of beam plastic hinge and developed significantly earthquake-resistant performance of such joints. Specimens(HJRP), designed with HDFRM, were indicated more stable hysteresis behavior, high load carrying capacity, and distributed crack pattern of specimens HJRP when compared to the control specimen.

  • Bond test was carried out to assess the effect of several variables on bond characteristics between reinforcing bar and concrete. Key variables are concrete compressive strength($f_c$'=340, 460, 6513, 904kg/$cm^2$), concrete cover (25, 38, 51, 105, IlOmm), and bar diameter(Dl3 and D22). Confining effect and bar spacing are not taken into account. Thirty-two specimens subjected to uniaxial tension were tested under hypothesis uniform bond stress distribution along the reinforcing bar embeded in concrete. Failure mode was examined and local bond stress versus slip relationship diagrams were represented to show effect of the above variables, also test results(u1timate bond stress) were compared with bond and development provisions of the ACI Building Code(AC1 318-89) and proposed equations from previous research. According to analysis, borld stress and ultimate bond stress increased although compressive strength increased beyond the ACI Building Code upper limit. Therefore in calculating development length. compressive strength effect(exceeding 700kg /$cm^2$) should be accounted.

  • Ground anchor has been widely used specially for maintaining stability on reinforced cut slope in expressway. While the durability of the ground anchors should be ensured over the service life. However, the long-term loss of tensile force has occurred in most of field-installed anchors. Main causes are not clearly identified and very few studies have been made for analyzing long-term behavior of ground anchor in slopes. In this study, full-scale model tests and long-term measurements were made to obtain the load-displacement data and identified the causes of the long-term behaviors of ground anchor. As a result, the bond strength decreases exponentially with increasing water-binder ratio. Especially, groundwater is the most influencing factor to the bond strength. In the long-term behavior, the load decreases sharply until the initial settlement stabilized, and thereafter the tension force decreases constantly.

  • Recently, mass concrete with high flowability are widely used to improve the quality and constructability in the longer span construction of prestressed concrete bridges, but it may induce nonstructural cracks due to the hydration heat and autogenous shrinkage etc. The stresses in concrete were evaluated by various experiments and numerical analysis. The tensile stress in mass concrete was increased in connection with the accumulation of hydration heat. Moreover, large amount of autogenous shrinkage from powder type admixture could add the tensile stress to mass concrete near anchorage zone. The tensile stresses in anchorage zone by heat and autogenous shrinkage exceeded the tensile strength of early stage of concrete, and small amounts of stress increasement were shown in other parts of PSC girder.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate shear strengthening effects and behaviour of RC beams strengthened in shear by Carbon Fiber Mesh(CFM) and mortar for fixing CFM to concrete. Test parameters in experiment are shear span-to-depth ratio, layout of CFM and number of clip. From the test, it was shown that the governing failure patten was the bond failure between cover mortar and RC beam initiated at about 60% of maximum strength. And the strength of CFM was developed up to 19.6% of it's maximum tensile strength when the specimen reached to failure. The most effective enhancement using CFM and mortar were to attach CFM diagonally to concrete in a/d of 1.0 and increase the number of cilps in a/d of 1.5, respectively.
