The nonlinear behavior of a connection has an influence on the behavior (the $P-\Delta$ effect) and the stability of a steel unbraced frame when a semi-rigid connection is applied as a beam-to-column connection. Therefore, the effects of a connection's non-linear behavior on the behavior and stability of a steel unbraced frame were investigated using second-order inelastic analysis, after which the main influence factors and their behavioral tendencies were studied. The study results showed that the nonlinear behavior of a connection directly affects the stability of a steel unbraced frame, and that the main influence factors are the rotational stiffness of the connection and the location of a semi-rigid connection.
Since composite materials have anisotropic properties that depend on their stacking angle and sequence, the analysis of joints with isotropic adherends is limited in describing the behavior of the adhesive Joint with composite adherends. In this study, the nonlinear solution for adhesive joints with composite adherends was derived by incorporating the nonlinear behavior of the adhesive into the analysis. The behavior of the laminated composite tube was first analyzed, and the stress distributions of the composite tubular adhesive joint were calculated by including the nonlinear properties of the adhesive. The effect of the stacking sequence of composite adherends and bonding length on torque capacities of joints was examined, and results of the nonlinear analysis were also compared with those of the linear analysis.
Structural analysis and design of steel frames is usually conducted under the assumption that beam-to-column connections are either fixed or pinned. In reality, each connection possesses a certain rotational stiffness. In this study, structural analysis program is developed, which takes into account the nonlinear behavior of framed structures including flexibility of semi-rigid connections and member geometric nonlinearity. Effective semi-rigid connections for a 6-story unbraced steel frame are suggested and the effect of flexible connections on the behavior of the structure are studied.

The present study emphasizes a nonlinear model to predict the shear behaviour of reinforced concrete interior beam-column joints. To model the shear behaviour of a panel zone in the beam-column joint, a modified softened truss model theory for in-plane shear prediction was introduced. This relationship was changed to define the characteristics for the rotational spring to represent the shear deformation in the joint by an equivalent moment-rotation relationship from the joint equilibrium. The analysis model was compared with experiments on reinforced concrete interior beam-column joints that were subjected to axial and shear forces, and the current model was found to accurately predict not only the shear force but also the shear deformation in the joint.
The seismic responses of a building are affected by the connection characteristics that have effects on structural stiffness. In this study, push-over analysis and time history analysis were performed to estimate structural behavior of 2D eight-story unbraced steel structures with partially restrained composite connections using a nonlinear dynamic analysis program. Nonlinear $M-{\theta}$characteristics of connection and material inelastic characteristics of composite beam and steel column were considered. The idealization of composite semi-rigid connection as fully rigid connection yielded an increase in initial stiffness and ultimate strength in the push-over analysis. In time history analysis, the stiffness and hysteretic behavior of connections have effects on base-shear force, maximum story-drift and maximum moment in beams and columns. For seismic waves with PGA of 0.4 g, the structure with the semi-rigid composite connections shows the maximum story-drift with less than the life safety criteria by FEMA 273 and no inelastic behavior of beam and column, whereas in the structure with rigid connections, beams and columns have experienced inelastic behaviors.
This paper describes the analysis results for tensile behavior of tubular column to H-beam connection with T stiffeners. Using the elasto-plastic finite element method, analysis results are compare with experimental results. Parametric analyses with different size of T-stiffener have conducted to understand the stress distribution at the connections. Stress concentration in elastic region and PEEQ distribution in plastic region are plotted for different shape. The results of analysis were applied to design equations and were checked for the applicability of design equations.

This paper intends to develop mechanical analysis models that are able to predict complete nonlinear behavior in the bolted connector subjected to cyclic loads. In addition, experimental data which were obtained from loading tests performed on the T-stub connections are utilized to validate the accuracy of analytical prediction and the adequacy of numerical modeling. The behavior of connection components including tension bolt uplift, bending of the T-stub flange, stem elongation, relative slip deformation, and bolt bearing are simulated by the multi-linear stiffness models obtained from the observation of their individual force-deformation mechanisms in the connection. The component springs, which involve the stiffness properties, are implemented into the simplified joint element in order to numerically generate the behavior of full-scale connections with considerable accuracy. The analytical model predictions are evaluated against the experimental tests in terms of stiffness, strength, and deformation. Finally, it can be concluded that the mechanical models proposed in this study have the satisfactory potential to estimate stiffness response and strength capacity at failure.
have been many studies to analyze the behavior of metal plate connector that most widely used to connect light frame wood trusses. Finite element method{FEM) was one of the methods for those studies. FEM using linear model may well be applicable to predict the initial slope of load-displacement curve for metal plate connection. However, displacement may be overestimated above experimental results with the increase of load. Therefore, linear model cannot be used for the nonlinear behavior part. To predict real behavior more exactly, nonlinear term was included to FEM model in this study. It was found out that EA and AA mode showed the high agreement between predicted results and experimental ones. However, EE and AE mode showed a little difference between predicted results and experimental ones in nonlinear part. This results might be caused by insufficient reflection of the slip effect. Consequently, the effect of slip shall be considered to approve the accuracy of nonlinear analysis for the behavior of metal plate connection.
