  • Since composite materials have anisotropic properties that depend on their stacking angle and sequence, the analysis of joints with isotropic adherends is limited in describing the behavior of the adhesive Joint with composite adherends. In this study, the nonlinear solution for adhesive joints with composite adherends was derived by incorporating the nonlinear behavior of the adhesive into the analysis. The behavior of the laminated composite tube was first analyzed, and the stress distributions of the composite tubular adhesive joint were calculated by including the nonlinear properties of the adhesive. The effect of the stacking sequence of composite adherends and bonding length on torque capacities of joints was examined, and results of the nonlinear analysis were also compared with those of the linear analysis.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for the production of jackets with high fit by comparing and analyzing the adhesive and non-adhesive production methods of men's jackets. An analysis of the manufacturing method showcased differences between the adhesive and non-adhesive manufacturing methods in the cutting and wick attachment method, the shape and attachment method of the chest reinforcing wick, the sleeve attachment method, and the shoulder pad and sleeve reinforcing cloth attachment method. In evaluating the outfit, the overall fit of the shoulder, the fit of the chest, and the fit of the armpit were found to be high in the non-adhesive production method. In evaluating appearance evaluation, the front shoulder, chest, and sleeve overall appearance showed a high non-adhesive production method. Therefore, in order to increase the wearability of the shoulder pad and the the attachment method of the upper sleeve reinforcing cloth, the non-adhesive production method should be used, and in order to increase the overall wearability and armpit wear of the chest, the difference in the attachment method, and the reinforcement method of the armhole should be used. In addition, to increase the appearance of the jacket, non-adhesive production methods such as differences in wick attachment methods, shoulder pads, sleeve reinforcing cloth, and sleeve attachment methods should be used.

  • In this study, solvent based polyurethane (PU) adhesives were prepared with the hydrocarbon resin and the acrylic modified hydrocarbon resin contents. The solvent based PU adhesive were increased with increasing tackifier concentration. The surface state of films showed good compatibility with increasing the PX-95 concentration but A-1100 series didn't present homogeneous phase more than 10 phr. Mechanical strength and peel strength were maximum at 5 phr tackifier concentration especially PX-95 series in solvent based PU adhesive.

  • The effect of moisture contents by salt water on the strength of composite single-lap bonded joints is investigated. The specimens were manufactured in an autoclave by secondary bonding and immersed in the 3.5% salt water of $71^{\circ}C$ for different durations to get various moisture contents; 0, 0.2, 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0%(saturation). A total of 80 joint specimens were tested for 5 different moisture contents and 2 temperature environments. Test results show that while the joint strengths after the saturation of moisture decrease compared to those of dry ones, the strengths of the pre-saturated joint up to 1.0% of moisture content increase in both room and elevated temperature conditions. It is also shown that the strengths of joints tested in elevated temperature are slightly higher than the strength in room temperature by 2-5% until the moisture content reaches 1 %. In contrast, the high temperature strength of the saturated joint is about 5% lower than the room temperature strength.

  • Mussel byssal protein has strong adhesive capability even in wet surface. It has been reported that nine proteins in marine blue mussel, often referred to a representative mussel, contribute to form mussel byssal threads and plaques. DOPA containing two hydroxy groups called cathecol is recognized that it plays a major role in adhesion as well as cohesion process within byssal structure. In this paper, adhesion and cohesion mechanisms were introduced and evaluated by supportive literature published during last decade. Diverse applications of cathecol chemicals were also examined in terms of innovative adhesive, bioadhesive and challenging material for tissue engineering. It is noticeable that reconsideration of mussel proteins could provide the various opportunities as biomaterials.

  • Adhesion of NR and BR composites with different initial states of precured or uncured conditions was studied. Adhesion between the NR and BR sheets as well as adhesion between the same rubber sheets was investigated. Adhesion forces of the uncured/uncured specimens were larger than those of the cured/uncured and cured/cured ones. The cured/cured samples and uncured NR/cured BR specimen were fully peeled out by the peel test. When one sheet was broken during the peel test, the sheet having the higher crosslink density was broken irrespective of the rubber types. Adhesion forces of the same rubber sheets were higher than those of the different ones and adhesion force of the cured NR/uncured BR sample was higher than that of the uncured NR/cured BR one. The experimental results were explained with the crosslink density and interdiffusion of rubber chains.

  • This study was conducted to improve the bond strength of plywood bonded with F/U molar ratio urea-formaldehyde (UF) resins modified with the selected FGMDI prepolymer contents for various purposes. The amount of FGMDI was mixed with liquid UF resin at 0 wt% (as control), 2 wt%, 5 wt%, 10 wt%, 25 wt%, and 50 wt% based on the resin solids. As results, in bonding strength, plywood with F/U molar ratio of 1.4 showed the highest value in Type 2 test and all molar ratio UF resins modified with over 25 wt% of the FGMDI showed more than $11kgf/cm^2$, which was satisfied the minimum requirement of KS standard, $7.5kgf/cm^2$, after Type1.5 testing. As F/U molar ratio was increased and the FGMDI addition in the UF resin was increased, average reduction rate of Type 1.5 bonding strength compared with Type 2 was significantly decreased.

  • In this paper, composite panels with hat-shaped stiffeners were made using the co-curing, co-bonding and secondary bonding methods. Co-curing is a manufacturing method in which the hat part and the plate are cured simultaneously in a manner that is more cost effective than other methods. Co-bonding is a method in which the stacked prepregs are cured with other cured parts, and secondary bonding is a method in which cured parts are bonded together using an adhesive. A rubber mold was manufactured for co-curing of composite panel with hat-shaped stiffeners, and finite element analyses were done to evaluate the expanding pressure of the rubber mold consistent with the curing temperature. The manufactured panels were also evaluated using a 3-D measurement tester and an ultrasonic tester. Pull-off tests were performed to evaluate their mechanical properties.

  • Improvement of the thermal and adhesion properties of stone/wood composites was studied. Tensile test was performed for wood and stone to know the basic mechanical properties. Real-time temperature of stone and wood was measured when stone and wood was heated. To compare thermal transfer properties of stone/wood composites, two types of specimens were tested: one was stone upper whereas another was wood upper. Real time temperature measurement and lap shear test were performed to know thermal and adhesion properties by using CNT-epoxy adhesive in which CNT was dispersed in epoxy adhesive uniformly. The thermal transfer property was better for the wood upper case than stone upper case. Adding CNT improved the heat transfer as well as mechanical properties including lap shear strength.

  • In order to develop the end use of cylindrical laminated veneer lumber (LVL) such as wooden crafts, the water proof-bonding strength, the resistance to abrasion and the surface hardness by painting the surface of LVL were investigated. The study results were as follows; The water proof-bonding strength through 5 cyclic test by boiling in water immersion and drying were favorable without delamination of glue line. Then the formulation of glue was resorcinol resin (100) to hardener of paraformaldehyde (5) by mixed weight percentage. The resistance to abrasion was relatively higher at cross section than tangential section. When tangential section of LVL was painted by UV protection oil, the resistance to abrasion was improved. In case of an cross section of LVL, the higher surface hardness appeared at larch core than radiata pine LVL. Also, in case of an tangential section of LVL, the higher surface hardness appeared at glue line than veneer side.
