Probing Understanding of Acid and Base Concepts of the 3rd-Grade Students in Middle School (중학교 3학년 학생들의 산 · 염기 개념 이해조사)

  • This article studies the understanding of acid and base concepts of the 3rd-grade students in middle school. An effective teaching strategy for improving their acid and base concepts was designed by considering students' prior knowledge using Lawson's learning cycle method. The control group was adapted by the traditional teaching strategy which isn't considering students' prior knowledge. After the class, understanding of acid and base concepts of treatment group was significantly higher than that of control group. But the level of students' understanding of strong acid, weak acid strong base and the strength of acid in aqueous solution was low even after the class of two groups. This indicates indirectly that the microscopic views of acid and base concepts in aqueous solution are not easy to learn for these students. For the four categories of acid and base concepts, students' responses were reviewed carefully and classified into scientific conceptions and misconceptions. These results will be useful for developing an effective teaching strategy of acid and base concepts.

A Case Study on Application of Flipped Learning in Medical Humanities: Focus on Instructional Design and Learners' Perspective (의료인문학 수업의 플립 러닝 적용 사례 연구: 수업설계와 학습자 인식을 중심으로)

  • The advances in science technology brought about a new form of learning called flipped-learning: a combination of on-line and off-line learning. A flipped learning is a form of blended learning which has become quite popular, nowadays, in the field of education. Despite the emphasis on the importance of medical humanities in medical education program, there are no effective teaching and learning models to realize the purpose of medical humanities education. This study explores the possibility of flipped-learning to apply medical humanities classes. The class was designed based on the ADDIE model consisting of five stages, analysis - design - development - execution - evaluation. In order to do 'flipped-learning,' the instructor reconstructs the purpose of medical humanities education, instructional purpose and content, and analyzed learner. The contents of the medical humanities class were structured considering the purpose of the introduction to the medical humanities in the medical education program and the competencies that medical personnel should have in the developed health care environment. The instructor produces a video of the lecture and makes it possible to use LMS (Learning Management System) before and after classes, and conducts discussion activities so that learner-learner and learner-teacher interaction could actively occur during the class. The result of applying medical humanities lesson as flipped learning is as follows: First, it can realize the essence of medical humanities education. Second, it contributes to strengthening the competencies of health care provider. Third, flip learning can be used as a new teaching strategy for medical humanities education. The result of this study is expected to suggest new ways of introduction to teaching method in the traditional medical humanities class and contribute to the practice of designing and doing flipped learning of medical humanities class in the future.

Analysis of the Effects of Teaching Method Using Ball-and-Stick Models in the Middle School (중학교에서 공-막대 모형을 이용한 수업의 효과 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the controversial points in the concepts of materials in the science textbook of middle school and to provide alternatives of teaching method. For this study, units in connected textbooks were analyzed and the teaching method using ball-and-stick models was developed. The subjects were 130 second graders from a middle school in Seoul, Korea. It aimed to compare the effectiveness of using ball-and-stick models for lesson with the one of traditional lessons, in learning concepts concerning materials by cognitive levels and to investigate the difference of scientific concept formation about concepts concerning materials by their cognitive levels between experimental group and control group by using concept formation questionnaires. Before the instructions, a short-version GALT was administered. After instructions, the posttest of concepts and attitude test connected with science subject were administered, and 10 months later, the posttest of concepts was administered to analyze the long-term memory effects. According to the results, the experimental group using the ball-and-stick models had significantly higher scores at conceptual understanding and long-term memory effects than the control group and improved the attitude relevant to science subject, and also had affirmative effects in attitude for science and science work. When analyzing the results according to the cognitive level, the long-term memory effects was high in the concrete operational stage students. From the results of this study, middle school students that are more concrete operational stage and transitional stage than formal operational stage elevates interesting in studying by using ball-and-stick models and making material form concretely. It would be effective in helping the students develope the correct concepts by connecting real world as materials and the particle world as atom.

  • The Blended Learning of K-12 education can he complimented to exceed the limits of the traditional face-to-face instructional method and can help learners have experiences with both various interactions and different learning experiences. Specifically, in K-12 education blended learning has a strength in being able to integrate on-line instruction with off-line instruction and actively help learners emerge with a breadth of knowledge gained collaboratively.<중략>For the objective of the study, that is, an investigation by a literature review process, the mode) of the process of collaboratively emerging knowledge as well as the alternative model of the concept can be applied as a developmental research method, which can improve practical procedure, process, and prescription. For overcoming the model and the real situation, this study was applied with Checkland(1999)'s soft system methodology, using$\square$the comparison of the model and real situations$\square$part and$\square$defining the alternatives$\square$of Checkland(1999)'s methods. In conclusion, analyzing the conceptual model and real situation helps in the development of a model which can minimize the discrepancy between the conceptual model and the real situation within K-12 education.

Development and Evaluation of Home Economics Maker Education Program for High School Students: Focusing on the Contents of 'Hanbok and Creative Clothing' (고등학교 가정과 메이커 교육 프로그램 개발과 평가: '한복과 창의적인 의생활' 내용 요소를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest valuable maker education programs by implementing and evaluating a Home Economics(HE) maker education program developed based on the content of "Hanbok and Creative Clothing" for high school students. The results of this study are as follows. First, the HE maker education model for high school students was designed and developed. The HE maker education model was developed by integrating and modifying the TMSI model of the maker education model and Laster's HE practical action teaching model. The HE maker education model consisted of 4 steps: tinkering(T: 4-hour class), practical reasoning(P: 3-hour class), making together(M: 4-hour class), and sharing and spreading(S: 1-hour class) with a total of 12-hour lesson plans. The theme of the developed HE maker program is 'Practice and spread of creative traditional culture of life (Hanbok)'. Second, the results of online survey of 240 high school students who participated in this maker class showed that HE maker class had positive effects in the order of experiential(4.26), cognitive(4.22), emotional(4.18), social(4.18), and practical(4.10). It is expected that the findings of this study will contribute to diversifying the curriculum of Home Economics, thereby improving the quality of Home Economics Education.

The Effect of Project Method on the Key Competencies on the unit of "Making Model by Architecture" in the Vocational High Schools (특성화 고등학교 '건축모형제작' 단원에서 프로젝트법을 적용한 수업이 직업기초능력 향상에 미치는 효과)

  • This study aimed to identify the effect of the instruction applied with a project method for the 'Making Model by Architecture' unit in vocational High schools on the improvement of the Key competences. With this aim, the study selected as an experimental group, control group third graders in two classroom in G vocational High Schools in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do. Aiming at the selected students in the experimental group and the control group, the study conducted a pre-test of their Key competences; thus, the study confirmed that there was no statistically significant difference. Then, the study offered a class applied with a project method to the experimental group, while offering a traditional instruction to the control group. After offering the class, the study undertook a post-test, and verified the effect. In order to prove the test result, the study carried out a Hest using the SPSSWIN 12.0 statistical program, while the significance level being ${\alpha}$<.05. The conclusions obtained from this study include the following. All the six selected areas including 'problem-solving skills', 'communication skills', 'resource utilization competence', 'mathematical competence', 'interpersonal management competence' and 'self-management competence', which were supposed to be appropriate for this study among the sub-areas of Key competences, were found to show significant differences between the experimental group applied with a project method and the control group as a result of the post-test of the two groups. In summarizing the above research results, the class using a project method for the 'Making Model by Architecture' unit was discovered to be effective for improving Key competences. In particular, it may be more effective learning method for enhancing six areas greatly relevant to the project method among various sub-areas of Key competences.

Development and Applied Effects of VR-based Cooking Serious Game for Students with Intellectual Disabilities (지적장애 학생을 위한 VR 기반 요리하기 기능성 게임 개발 및 적용 효과)

  • The purpose of this study were to develop VR-based cooking serious game(VR-Cook) for students with intellectual disabilities and to validate effectiveness. The VR-Cook was developed using the ASSURE model. Twenty students with intellectual disabilities were participated to verify effectiveness. Ten students were assigned to the experimental group and the others to the control group. The control group received traditional interventions, and the experimental group participated in the intervention combining traditional intervention with VR-Cook. Evaluations were made at three times, and evaluation data were analyzed with repeated two-way ANOVA. The experimental group has improved more than control group in cooking activities and class attitudes.

The Development and Its Application of Teaching and Learning Plan for Making Class of Natural Dyeing and Jogakbo (천연염색과 조각보 만들기 수업을 위한 교수-학습 지도안 개발 및 적용)

  • The purpose of this study was to improve interest and attitude of student's Technology-Home Economics Curriculum and to recognize the change of recognition on Traditional image through Natural Dyeing and Jogakbo making on the unit of making living goods with fabrics in Technology-Home Economics curriculum on first year high school. The abridged result of study following this: First, in Natural Dyeing and Jogakbo making, teaching-learning plan applying LT cooperative studying and learning materials have been developed. Second, after applying the developed lesson plan, the result showed that the change in learning interest and attitude about Technology-Home Economics curriculum was positively improved. After executing the class on Natural Dyeing and Jogakbo making, the interest and concern about tradition were very positively upgraded through the result analyzing the change of recognition on traditional image. Through these results, The Teaching-learning plan and learning materials would show high possibility of application as educational contents about traditional culture in the field of education. After executing the class on making of Natural dyeing and Jogakbo, the learning interest degree and attitude was very positively upgraded, and the recognition on traditional image had been changed to the active and positive recognition.

전향력 탐구 활동 프로그램이 고등학생들의 창의성에 미치는 효과

  • 본 연구에서는 고등학생들의 창의성을 신장시키고자 렌줄리의 3단계 학습모형에 적용하여 전향력 탐구활동 프로그램을 개발 하였고, 현장에 적용 후 그 효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 실험집단에는 창의성 신장을 위한 전향력 탐구활동 프로그램을 적용하였고, 통제집단에는 전통적인 교수 학습을 적용하였다. 창의성의 신장 정도와 전향력 개념의 이해 정도를 측정하고자 사전 사후 검사로 창의성은 토렌스의 창의성 검사(TTCT)로, 전향력 개념은 성취도 검사로 알아보았다. 그 결과 실험집단이 전향력 개념 성취도 검사 결과 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타나고, 창의성 검사(TTCT)에서도 실험집단의 사전 검사보다 사후 검사에서 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 학생들이 본 수업 프로그램의 과정을 통해 평소 어렵다고 생각했던 전향력 개념을 쉽게 이해할 수 있었기 때문이다. 이러한 연구 결과는 전향력 탐구 활동 프로그램은 고등학생들의 창의성을 신장시키고 전향력 개념에 대한 이해도를 높일 수 있었다고 볼 수 있다.

Design and Implementation of Teaching-Learning Plan using ICT based on XML (XML 기반 ICT 활용 교수-학습 과정안 설계 및 구현)

  • 교육인적자원부의 ${\ulcorner}$${\cdot}$중등학교 정보통신기술 교육 운영지침${\lrcorner}$에 따르면 각 교과 수업 시간에 ICT 활용 교육이 $10\%$이상 반영되도록 적극 권장하고 있다. 이에 따라 각급 학교에서는 전통적인 학습 지도안과 ICT 활용 교수-학습 과정안의 두 가지 형태를 병행하여 사용하고 있으나 작성 도구와 형식이 다양하여 교사들 상호간의 문서 공유와 재사용성이 떨어지며 웹 상에서 정확한 검색이 어렵다. 본 논문에서는 한국교육학술정보원에서 제시하고 있는 ICT 활용 교수-학습 과정안의 모형을 토대로 공통 DTD를 설계하고 데이터베이스와 연동하여 표준화된 XML 문서를 생성함으로써 교사들 상호간의 공유 및 재사용성을 높이고 정확한 검색이 이루어지도록 하였다. 또한 유선 인터넷 서비스와 동시에 무선 인터넷 환경에서도 WML을 이용하여 모바일 서비스가 가능하도록 구현되어 있어 보다 향상된 교수-학습 환경을 제공할 수 있다.
