The purpose of the present study is to investigate the effects of mathematical communication-centered teaching using peer feedbacks on students' mathematics achievement and mathematical dispositions toward mathematics, and then this study examined the characteristics of feedbacks used by students. To do this study, two sixth grade classes selected from an elementary school in Seoul participated in the current study; one class for a treatment group applying mathematical communication-centered teaching using peer feedback, and the other for a comparison group applying traditional teaching using teacher-centered communication. The results of this study showed the fact that a treatment group of mathematical communication-centered teaching applying peer feedback scored statistically higher than a comparison group applying teacher-centered communication with respect to both students' mathematical achievement and disposition. Especially, this communication-centered teaching program focused on peer feedback was more effective to middle or lower level students than higher level students. In addition, mathematical communication-centered teaching applying peer feedbacks helps students reflect their own thinking process about problem solving, and students experienced the improvement of their confidence about mathematics from opportunities to provide peers with feedbacks. Finally, the present study suggests the important role of communication in mathematics learning, particularly student-to-student feedbacks rather than teacher-to-students feedbacks. That is to say, students need to have many opportunities to represent their own mathematical thinking processes using mathematical language.

Using TIMSS survey data, we analyzed whether there were any significant changes in the learning environment of middle school science classes over the last 10 years. Our study selected questions from teachers and school principals' questionnaires and divided them by category: science class, teacher professional development, and school environment. The science class components were subdivided into three categories: science learning activities, evaluation, and homework. Within teacher professional development, the sub-categories included teacher training, collaboration to improve teaching, and teacher evaluation. School environment subdivided into two aspects, these being school characteristics and school system. Our research confirmed that there has been a positive change overall in learning environments. However, most classes are teacher-conducted and also teacher-oriented; the proportion of science investigation activities has declined compared against the prior ten years. Our study show that students do not engage in a range of inquiry-related activities. The questions on tests and examinations involve mostly knowledge application and understanding, although recent methods of evaluation show improvement. As for the science teachers, they participate in many professional development programs but focus on science content, science curriculum, and pedagogy. In addition, teachers do not have many opportunities to participate in the training to integrate information technology into science, science assessment, or improving students' critical thinking or inquiry skills. The teachers are satisfied with their profession, and the shortage of science resources does not seem to affect instruction.

Among the various fields of Earth Science, especially in Astronomy, we often deal with the change of space-time in an abstract way. Thus, making use of 'Concept Sketches'-simplified sketches that represent the main features, principles, processes and interrelationships of the learning content by using some concise explanations, signs and terms could help the students efficiently learn the phenomena of Astronomy. This study's aim was to check its effects and analyze the results of the lessons that included concept sketches and a discussion about the field of Earth Science in high school. The control group took traditional lessons, while the experimental group did a small-group discussion that used the concept sketches. After the lesson, some students were chosen to answer a questionnaire and go through an in-depth interview. The result of the data shows that the small-group discussion lesson that used the concept sketches helped both the high-ranking and low-ranking students to build concepts and was able to attract students' attention. Moreover, the students produced long-term memories of the content learned through the class discussion, which allowed them to exchange their own thoughts and opinions with other students. Most of all, drawing pictures, a familiar activity, appealed to the students, so they took part in the class eagerly.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of elementary school students' knowledge and information processing competence and collaborative problem-solving ability in scientific inquiry class using data measured with digital inquiry tools. To this end, three classes of 5th grade elementary schools in S-city, Gyeongnam were selected as experimental groups and three classes as control groups. The control group conducted traditional lecture-style classes, and the experimental group conducted scientific inquiry classes using scientific data. The following results were obtained through questionnaires after class. First, science inquiry classes using scientific data helped elementary school students improve their knowledge and information processing competence. Second, scientific inquiry classes using scientific data improved elementary school students' cooperative problem-solving ability. From the above results, it was found that scientific inquiry classes using scientific data are needed to improve the knowledge information processing competence and cooperative problem solving ability of elementary school students. Based on this research, it is necessary to study a specific teaching and learning environment that can activate scientific inquiry class using data measured with digital inquiry tools in the future.
Objectives: This study aims to confirm the educational necessity and utilization of VR media. And it was conducted to prepare basic data necessary for the use of VR in various dental hygiene education in the future and the development of innovative practical training courses. Methods: Before and after using VR in oral radiology practice classes, learning interest (4 items), learning commitment (9 items), learning motivation (5 items), educational media preference (4 items), and satisfaction (10 items) were investigated and analyzed. Friedman two way ANOVA by ran a nonparametric analysis corresponding to repeated measures ANOVA was performed. The statistical significance level was 0.05. Results: It was found that there were statistically significant differences in learning interest, learning immersion, and learning motivation according to the type of oral radiology practice education medium (p<0.05). Conclusions: VR is expected that the use of learning media using VR will lead to students' interest, immersion, and learning motivation in class, and that positive learning effects on VR education media can be sufficiently obtained.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of science-related and scientific attitudes in Small-Scale Science (SSS) experimental learning on 3rd grade middle school students. Two classes were chosen from a middle school in Pohang and classified into two groups: the first group, the experimental group, composed of twenty-six students, undergoing SSS and the other group, comparison group, composed of twenty-five students who were taught experimental learning by the traditional teaching method. The major observations of this study are as follows: The SSS experimental learning significantly influenced the students' science-related and scientific attitudes within the experimental group. Also, there was a meaningful difference in the subcategory of science-related attitudes and scientific attitudes before and after the SSS experimental learning. Otherwise, there was no significant difference in comparison group. In conclusion, the class using the SSS was positively influenced in forming students' science-related and scientific attitudes. In particular, the effect on subcategories of science-related attitudes such as attitude towards science are more remarkable. The SSS experimental learning helps students to enhance the subcategorial factors of scientific attitude such as their curiosity, critical thinking, cooperation, self-participation, persistence and ingenuity. The SSS experimental learning, therefore, can improve learning attitudes.

This study investigated the influences of role-playing analogy upon students' scientific conceptual understandings, application abilities, retentions of conception and application, and learning motivation. Four classes of 7th grade at a middle school in Seoul were assigned to control and treatment groups, and taught about 'motion of molecules' for 4 class hours. For the Treatment group, role-playing analogy instruction was used. The traditional instruction was used for the control group. Data analysis indicated that the scores of the treatment group were significantly higher than those of the control group in the tests on the conception, the retention of application, and the confidence. In the tests of the application, attention, and relevance, there were significant interactions between instruction and student' gender. Both female and male students in the treatment group scored significantly higher than those in the control group in the application test. In the case of attention and relevance tests, male students in the treatment group scored significantly higher than those in the control group. Educational implications are discussed.
E-Learning is different from the traditional classroom learning and examinees can take a class individually anywhere by online. And it is difficult to proctor an examination because they also take a test by online. However the results of the online test are included in their examination scores. Therefore, it is very important to authenticate the examinees. In this paper, we propose improvement of fairness system for online test using camera. Students can take a picture after every online classes and it has been saved. And during the test, ELTS(e-Learning Test System) takes images, detects the faces, and protects from getting another person to sit for cheating. After examination, the images have been transferred with the answer sheets to the cyber school management system. And a report card will be printed out with the user's images. Moreover, it will authenticate oneself and protect the online test from cheating.
