This study has analyzed the vegetation composition in the areas using different slope revetment techniques of riverbanks, in a way to improve the vegetation induction in the future considering the ecological aspects of the induction in Garaeyoul Village, Gangdong-gu, Seoul. The result of the vegetation distribution in each different slope revetment technique was analyzed, that the naturalized herb was dominant in the pole block accounting for 70.7%, while native herb was dominant in the lawn block occupying 48.5% and in the crib block occupying 55.7%. The vegetation coverage measured by different slope revetment techniques was highest in the crib block(average 97.5%), followed by the lawn block(average 95.3%) and pole block(average 27.9%). The vegetation base area was the most wide in the crib block and the most narrowest in the pole block. The result of community analysis in areas using different slope revetment techniques, dry herbs and vine herbs were dominated and the coverage was very poor in the pole block. In the lawn block, the barb was fragmented into narrow areas due to the blocks, which prevented the creation of large-scale plant communities. In the crib block, Miscanthus sacchariflorus, Fescue arundinacea and Aster pilosus, which also consisted of large-scale communities. Average dry weight was also measured by each slope revetment technique. The weight was heaviest in the crib block with $187.63g/m^2$, followed by the lawn block($137.65g/m^2$) and pole block($6.75g/m^2$). The soil moisture contents in the crib block and lawn block was 16.3% and 15.2%, respectively, while that of the pole block was 4.7%, which revealed the highly dry condition of the pole block soil. The analysis result of soil chemical property showed that there was little difference in soil texture, soile acidity(pH), and exchangeable ion content, however, the soil organic matter(OM) content and available $P_2O_5$ were highest in the pole block. In the future, in order to induce more vegetation into river banks and walls, a proper construction method should be applied so that the vegetation area can be expanded as much as possible, considering the safety of the banks.

Since about 70 percent of the territory is mountainous, more tunnels are constructed in Korea for maximizing the development efficiency. With the increasing number of tunnel construction, safe construction in tunnels has been emerged as the utmost important subject. Recently, the number of long tunnel construction is steeply increased because of the request for high speed and straight road. In this study, a safe tunneling method using numerical modeling of rock blocks in long tunnels is proposed, and then applied to the long tunnel based on real discontinuity information observed in situ. It is possible to detect key blocks all along the tunnel exactly by using the numerical analysis program developed for the safe tunneling method using numerical modeling of rock blocks. This computer simulation method with user-friendly interfaces can calculate not only the stability of rock blocks but also the design of supplementary supports.
The fitting of a response surface model and the subsequent exploration of the response surface are usually based on the assumption that the experimental runs are carried out under homogeneous conditions. This, however, may be quite often difficult to achieve in many experiments. To control such an extraneous source of variation, the response surface design should be arranged in several blocks within which homogeneity of conditions can be maintained. In this case, when fitting a response surface model, the least squares estimates of the model's parameters and the prediction variance will generally depend on how the response surface design is blocked. That is, the choice of a blocking arrangement for a response surface design can have a considerable effect on estimating the mean response and on the size of the prediction variance. In this paper, we propose a measure for evaluating the effect of blocking of response surface designs using cuboidal regions.

Incidence matrix is a useful tool for presenting incomplete block designs; however, it is inadequate to use only an incidence matrix in examining whether a certain incomplete block design becomes a balanced incomplete block design or not. We can use a structural matrix as a useful tool to show whether a certain incomplete block design becomes a balanced incomplete block design or not. We propose an augmented incidence matrix and ${\lambda}$ matrix as another tools for evaluating incomplete block designs. Through the augmented incidenc matrix and ${\lambda}$ matrix, we can ascertain whether a certain incomplete block design becomes a balance incomplete block design or not.

Duct slabs, which are used to build ventilation facilities in underground spaces with transverse ventilation system, need to secure fire resistance according to longitudinal and heavy vehicle traffic of tunnels. This study measured the temperature change at the construction joint of the precast fireproof duct slab which integrates fire resistance material and duct slab under the RWS fire scenario. As a result, it was confirmed that if there is no reinforcement of the construction joint, damage will occur in concrete inside the construction joint, leading to damage to the fireproofing layer. On the other hand, when one side of the construction joint was reinforced with fireproofing materials, it showed more than three times the fire resistance performance compared to when there was no reinforcement. At this time, cross-sectional losses of concrete and fireproofing layer were shown in blocks without reinforcement, but no damage was seen in the reinforced blocks.
An experimental study was carried out in order to reduce the period and cost of construction of Missiryung tunnel, which is a relatively long one 3.6 km long. An allowable vibration level for curing concrete was established based on the extensive case studies done over the world. and assessment was performed on the possibility of constructing concrete structures like lining during tunnel blasting. Attenuation relationships were obtained by processing more than 130 measurement data from a series of tunnel blasting in the site. A Guideline for safe construction work was suggested. To verification, low small concrete blocks with a constant standoff distance were installed in the floor of the tunnel After the blocks were exposed to blast vibrations for 28 days, compressive strength tests were performed on 20 specimens taken from the blocks. It was shown that the suggested guideline was appropriate for the safe construction work at the site.

This paper presents an efficient frame synchronizer architecture using the common autocorrelator for Digital Video Broadcasting via Satellite, Second generation(DVB-S2). To achieve the satisfactory performance under severe channel conditions and the efficient hardware resource utilization of functional synchronization blocks which have been implemented, we propose a new efficient common autocorrelator structure. The proposed architecture can improve the performance of the frame and frequency synchronizer since each block operates jointly in parallel and significantly reduce the complexity of the frame synchronizer. Hence, The proposed architecture can ensure the decrease by about 92% multipliers and 81% adders compared with the direct implementation. Moreover, it has been thoroughly verified with an FPGA board and R&STM SFU broadcast test equipment and consists of 29,821 LUTs with XilinxTM Virtex IV LX200.
Extreme value distributions have often been used for the analysis (e.g., prediction of return level) of data which are observed from natural disaster. By the extreme value theory, the block maxima asymptotically follow the generalized extreme value distribution as sample size increases; however, this may not hold in a small sample case. For solving this problem, this paper proposes the use of a log-logistic (LLG) distribution whose validity is evaluated through goodness-of-fit test and model selection. The proposed method is illustrated with data from annual maximum earthquake magnitudes of China. Here, we present the predicted return level and confidence interval according to each return period using LLG distribution.

In this paper, we predict the earthquake magnitudes which were recently occurred in Gyeongju and Pohang, using statistical methods based on historical data. For this purpose, we use the five-year block maximum data of 1392~1771 period, which has a relatively high annual density, among the historical earthquake magnitude data of the Chosun Dynasty. Then, we present the prediction and analysis of earthquake magnitudes for the return level over return period in the Chosun Dynasty using the extreme value theory based on the distribution of generalized extreme values (GEV). We use maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) and L-moments estimation for parameters of GEV distribution. In particular, this study also demonstrates via the goodness-of-fit tests that the GEV distribution can be an appropriate analytical model for these historical earthquake magnitude data.
