The purpose of this paper is to introduce Harvard's general education in order to provide in sights into problem-solving in Korean higher education. To do this, this paper explored the historical tradition of liberal education and the education system of Harvard University. 1. The education of Harvard University is based on liberal education which is a model integrated knowledge and conduct. 2. The education System of Harvard University is divided into two categories: undergraduate education characterized as 'liberalize' and graduate education as 'deliberalize'. It is believed that the above characteristics of Harvard University's education system can provide insights into the future reform of Koran higher education.

In recent times, rapid social change has caused an unavoidable need for change in general education. The purpose of this paper is to review a change in the nature of general education through reviewing the Harvard Reports. To this end, we compare and analyze a series of Harvard Reports on General Education. The Harvard Report on General Education has been published in three separate reports: "General Education in a Free Society"(1945), "Report on Core Curriculum"(1978), "Report of the Task Force on General Education"(2007). Firstly, "General Education in a Free Society" enlarges the subject of general education in public and aims to achieve universal general education. Secondly, "Report on Core Curriculum" contributes to the common intellectual foundation. It not only enriches the personal life but also enable to have a conversation related to problems of mankind. Thirdly, "Report of the Task Force on General Education" supports the idea of liberal education as well as problem-solving skills in real life. For instance, general education should concern educating global citizen. A series of the Harvard Report on General Education have shown that today general education should preserve the nature of liberal education as well as reflection of the social context.

The purpose of this study is to illustrate Richard Henry Tawney's idea of adult education among traditions of workers' education movement. The workers' education movement can be categorized into two streams. One tradition regards as the workers' education as a part of liberal education. The other tradition regards as it as a tool for social transformation. The former, which emphasizes the importance of liberal education in workers' education, had been developed in connection with the University Extension in England, and had a practical influence through the 'Workers' Educational Association(WEA)' organized by Mansbridge and other intellectuals. The latter, which emphasizes the social transformational function of education, conducted education in a form that is not clearly distinguished from propaganda, through the 'National Council of Labour College(NCLC)'. Tawney demonstrates the idea of adult education that synthesizes these two traditions, and this synthesization is related to his idea on equality. Tawney pursued socialism through democratic and non-violent way. He thought that adult education could contribute to the construction of socialism while at the same time conducting adult education based on liberal education. In other words, adult education based on liberal education, through rational understanding and discussion of the world, can contribute to social transformation. Tawney's idea of adult education provides practical implications for educationalists and educators who want progressive social change, and theoretically enriches educational research on the relationship between social transformation and education.

With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the liberal arts education of universities has been called for fundamental innovation in its content and methods. H university has continuously made efforts to improve its general education curriculum with the goal of satisfying students' needs as well as the demands of the times. Its efforts can be summarized as the harmonization of competency-based education and the traditional liberal arts education. In more detail, it has tried to meet the demands of Ministry of Education which requests each university to establish its general education system focusing on key competencies. Simultaneously, it also radically changed its education system based on the guidelines of the Korea National Institute for General Education(KONIGE). The starting point of those changes was the basic consulting by KONIGE in 2017. According to the consulting report, H university introduced comprehensive and overall revision of its liberal arts education curriculum, increasing its liberal arts credit requirements from 22 to 28 credits in 2019. It has also reorganized and reclassified its liberal arts courses by introducing distributive elective classes. In 2020, in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Education, H university altered its curriculum once more in order to establish a competency-based general education curriculum. Under the new curriculum, all requirement subjects are completely matched with key competencies of H university. It also includes newly opened courses and subject areas such as "Social Service" and "Global Citizenship." Through these changes, H university hopes that its general education contributes to fostering students equipped with key competencies, who can face actively this challenging period.

Engineering Colleges in Korea have two educational objectives: 1) strengthening of speciality 2) cultivation of the engineering literacy such as the ability of working together, the ability of communication and creative thinking. In order to achieving these objectives, Engineering Literacy education was originated. The improvable proposal of general education course of engineering college is divided into two parts. One is American type that emphasizes on the general education independently of major. The other is Korean ABEEK's type that attach importance to engineering literacy. This study researches the case of Seoul National University that applied ABEEK's engineering literacy on redesigning the curriculum. To redesign the curriculum, college of engineering, Seoul National University reduced the optional courses in general education and had the students complete the engineering literacy. This device is effective, because it is able to keep the universal general education and make the most of major's characteristics.

Computer education in universities has been expanded and specialized from ICT-based education in recent years to software education such as computational thinking and programming. Especially, as the 4th Industrial Revolution is emphasized in all fields of society, software education, which is its core, is being applied as an essential liberal arts course in universities. In the case of basic SW education for all students, it is necessary to provide differentiated education that is suitable for students because their special characteristics are different. In this study, we conducted a basic SW course for general liberal arts at A-university in Seoul and analyzed the survey data from 4,927 students for about 3 years, and classified the major series and searched the appropriate education method for each subdivided group. Through the analysis, we were able to find characteristic groups such as business and commerce, art and sports major. Finally, six groups for basic-SW education are presented. Educational directions such as programming language and level of difficulty setting suitable for differentiated education are presented for each group.

The purpose of the study is to explore a plan for effective education using virtual reality in English education. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, the perception of English education using virtual reality was comprehensively investigated and analyzed for teachers(n=20) in the field of English education. The results of the study reveal the followings: 1) Teachers are positively aware of the necessity of English education using virtual reality, but most teachers complained of a psychological burden on education using virtual reality; 2) negative responses were somewhat higher than positive responses to the expectation that virtual reality-based English content would be practical in the educational field; 3) In order to increase the effectiveness of English education using virtual reality, it is necessary to share experiences for educational experience of virtual reality and need to provide various virtual reality contents; and 4) For virtual reality educational application, there is a high demand for teaching and learning method education and training using virtual reality and provision of guidelines for education using virtual reality.

Although the comprehensive school report system which was renamed from the admission officer system has been stably implemented in Korea, the fairness of the college admission system concerning the evaluation on the extra-curricular domain has still been a controversial issue. Thus, it has been the main topic in the educational policy to consider the desirable college admission system and investigate the problems of current changes in the admission system. On the other hand, the college admission system has not been the problem for students and people concerned in Canada. The completion of higher education is more important than the admission itself in Canada due to the standardization of higher education institutions such as universities in quality. In this regard, this study aims to examine the education and college admission system in Canada in general focusing on the cases of the province of Quebec.

The purpose of this study is to establish Smart Education Environment for children's personalized learning based on the data are accumulated by Smart Device which is one of element on Smart Education. In this study, we propose the operational improvement plan for the free choice activity in the 5-year-old kindergarten and also implement the Free Choice Activity(FCA) management system for children to select and to evaluate the play plans for themselves. Children participating in this study have fun the whole time for the process of self-planning, the playing activities and the self-assessment of playing. As a result, it is confirmed that children participate actively in decision-making of interesting areas through the smart device than the traditional education environment before. A single teacher using FCA management system with smart device in this study can get useful information without difficulty of individual child's interests, learning and the statistics of children in the classroom.

The introduction of the communicative approach in the English language education brings in a Korean the English Program in Korea (EPIK), which is a Korean government sponsored program established 1995. by the Korean Ministry of Education improve Korean students' and teachers' communicative competency in English within the public school system in Korea. For this goal, EPIK invites English speakers from 7 major English-speaking countries. However, the effectiveness of this program has been questioned in Korea. Thus, the objective of this paper is to explore the current status, problems, and the directions for the program to be aimed at, and for the effectiveness of EPIK through investigation of the program. Then this paper presents some possible solutions and suggestions including the possibility of VR use in orientation and training programs in order to empower both Korean teachers of English and English native teachers in Korea.
