Analysis of Pitch Static Attitude in Thermally Assisted Magnetic Recording Suspension (열 보조 자기기록용 서스펜션의 PSA에 대한 분석)

  • This paper presents the analysis of pitch static attitude(PSA) in thermally assisted magnetic recording(TAMR) suspension. The TAMR suspension using an optical fiber has high stiffness such as vertical, pitch and roll. Therefore, P-torque is greatly increased by the optical fiber. Also, flying height(FH) of the slider with TAMR suspension can be largely changed by PSA. In this paper, we focus on the FH by PSA of TAMR suspension. The FH is investigated using various PSA and proper PSA is proposed.

  • With the development of micro -technology, the demand for micro actual ing device is increasing. But, it is difficult to achieve high resolution and wide bandwidth with the conventional contact systems. So, the contact-free systems which are suspended or levitated by magnetic force or air bearing were proposed. These systems can be applied to high precision stages and alignment apparatuses. This paper describes a magnetically suspended system with four degrees of freedom which are composed of three rotations (roll, pitch, yaw), and one translation ( z). The operating principle and the structure of the system are similar to variable reluctance type electric machines. In this study, the force analysis is executed using magnetic circuit and virtual work principle, and the equations that describe the dynamics of the system are presented. The multivariable PID controller is adapted to the system and the experiment is executed.

  • This paper is about feasibility study of positioning device using magnetic suspension system which uses only vertical magnetic forces. The proposed system has inherited advantages from contact-free system, simple structure, and high expansibility in operating range different from conventional positioning devices. In this paper, the structure and operating principle are described and the linearized magnetic force and dynamic model are obtained. With the linear control theory, the experiments are executed. finally, the experimental results are shown.

Preparation and Characterization of Functional Microcapsules Containing Suspensions of Conducting Materials (전도성 물질 서스펜션을 함유한 마이크로캡슐)

  • Microcapsules containing the suspension of conducting materials such as carbon nanotube (CNT) or polyaniline (PANI) were prepared by in-situ polymerization of melamine and formaldehyde. Stable microcapsules were prepared and the mean diameter of the observed microcapsules was in the range of $10-20{\mu}m$. The surface morphology and chemical structure of microcapsules were investigated using optical microscope (OM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The thermal properties of samples were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The conductivity of ruptured microcapsule containing the suspension of CNTs or PANIs in tetrachloroethylene and Isopar-G was measured. As the amount of CNTs and PANIs in the core of microcapsules increased, the measured current increased. Conductivity measurement results suggest that poly (melamine-formaldehyde) based core-shell microcapsules could be applied to self-healing electronic materials systems, where CNTs or PANIs bridge a broken circuit upon release.

  • This research demonstrates the transient response of a head disk assembly subjected to a half-sine shock pulse in the axial direction. In case of disk analysis, the numerical method presented by Barasch and Chen is used. Galerkin method is used with mode shape by numerical method. head-suspension system is modeled by the cantilever in order to get simulation results. Simulation results about total system of HDA are calculated by Runge-Kutta method.

Contact-free Linear Actuator Using Active Magnetic Bearing (능동 자기 베어링을 이용한 비접촉식 선형 구동기)

  • In the field of precision manufacturing demanding high positioning performance, the mechanical friction in positioning device deteriorates the quality of the product and increases the cost of production for positioning devices. Therefore, we propose a contract-free linear actuator using active magnetic bearing. The structure and operating principle of the proposed system are explained, and the magnetic forces are analyzed by magnetic circuit theory to design magnetic bearings and linear actuator. With the derived equation of motion, the stability is identified. Experimental results are presented to show the feasibility.

  • This paper applies the fuzzy logic controller to a semiactive seat suspension system in order to obtain the better ride comfort in constraint of specific rattle space. The seat suspension system used for this research is a scissors-type one with the MR (Magnetic Rheological) fluid damper. Since a seat suspension system with a driver can not be exactly modeled, it is effective to control with the fuzzy logic controller. The rule was carefully tuned to effectively reduce the vibration transmitted to a driver. The on-road ride was realized on a hydraulic excitor and the result shows that the fuzzy controller has reduced the vibration of a seat suspension system compared to the continuous skyhook controller.

  • This paper presents vibration control performances of a commercial magnetorheological (MR) suspension via new control strategy considering hysteresis of the field-dependent damping force of MR damper. A commercial MR damper which is applicable to high class passenger vehicle is adopted and its field-dependent damping force is experimentally evaluated. Preisach hysteresis model for the MR damper is identified using experimental first order descending (FOD) curves. Then, a feed-forward compensation strategy for the MR damper is formulated and integrated with a linear quadratic regulation (LQR) feedback controller for the suspension system. Control performances of the proposed control strategy for the MR suspension is experimentally evaluated with quarter vehicle test facility.
