  • As a case study of the application of supportive music and imagery (SMI), this study examined the impact of SMI in helping clients establish greater self-worth. Sense of self-worth was defined as trust and respect for the self as evidenced by understanding of one's individuality and uniqueness. Participants in the study were two adults in need of help with psychological challenges arising from low self-worth. Each of them participated in SMI sessions once a week, for a total of 6 weeks. Participants' statements on the imagery drawn by them during SMI sessions were analyzed in relation to components of the sense of self-worth. The results of this study showed that SMI sessions helped both clients recognize their internal resources and gaining insight into the value of their internal resources increased their evaluation of their own self-worth. Specific factors of SMI sessions that impacted the clients' self-worth and suggestions for future studies are also discussed.

  • This study examines that pricing multiple on and incremental explanatory power of equity book value(earnings) increase(decrease) as financial health decrease. Test using a sample of 75 bankrupt firms and test using a cross-sectional, pooled sample both yield inference consistent with predictions. It is thus hypothesized that the more bankrupt time are, the higher(lower) pricing multiple book value of equity(earnings) obtained. Findings are robust to inclusion of controls for debt/assets ratio, ROA, and ROIC. Overall, the results is the hypothesis.

  • Two studies were conducted to investigate the interactive effect between temporal proximity of utility value and self-efficacy on situational interest and reengagement motivation. In study 1, university students were provided with either proximal or distal values of mental calculation task. Hierarchical regression analyses showed a significant interaction effect between distal utility value and high self-efficacy, indicating that distal utility value was more effective to induce situational interest and reengagement motivation for students with higher level of self-efficacy. In study 2, we replicated study 1 with high school students to investigate developmental differences and found the same results. These findings suggest that it is important to consider the level of self-efficacy and proximity of utility value in designing value intervention program.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the mediating effect of self-regulation(SR) and the moderating effect of career identity(CI) in predicting academic achievement(AA) by middle school students' achievement value(AV). The subjects were 1,088 male and 970 female students in the third year of middle school. A conditional process analysis using SPSS and Hayes' process macro was conducted. The results were as follows. First, the partial mediation effect of SR was significant in the relationship between AV and AA. Second, the moderating effect of CI was notable in the relationship between AV and SR, and AV and AA respectively. Finally, the mediation effect of AV on AA through SR was found to decrease as CI increased. These results show that supporting the development of CI for students with low AV helps to improve SR and AA. However, as the effect of CI was found to be weaker than the effect of AV or SR on AA, the follow-up research exploring ways to support the achievement value of middle school students are suggested.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the structural relationship among task value, self-efficacy, classroom goal structure, and academic emotions(enjoyment, fear, boredom) for promoting self-regulated learning in e-learning course. The results showed that task value, self-efficacy, class goal structure influenced academic emotions and self-regulated learning, and enjoyment had mediation effects among exogenous variables and self-regulated learning. The findings offer implications of facilitating self-regulated learning while considering academic emotions.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between contingencies of self-worth(superiority and others' approval), college adjustment and expectancy for future success and the mediating role of cognitive flexibility in these relationships. For this study, data from 460 college students were analyzed. The results were as follows. Contingencies of self-worth(superiority) were positively associated with college adjustment and expectancy for future success, while contingencies of self-worth(others' approval) were negatively associated with college adjustment and expectancy for future success. Second, the results of structural equation modeling indicated that cognitive flexibility fully mediated the relationship of contingencies of self-worth (superiority and others' approval) with college adjustment and expectancy for future success. Third, even the contingencies of self-worth(other's approval) were negatively associated with cognitive flexibility, and if the latter was high, it influenced college adjustment and expectancy for future success. Finally, the meanings and limitations of this research and implicationsfor counseling strategies and interventions were discussed in detail.

  • In this research, it was examined whether the importance of value of self(i.e., self-referenced values) and the perceived importance of values of average Koreans(i.e., culture-referenced values) differ according to social class. In Study 1, differences in the importance of self-referenced values according to the social class of 1,140 adults aged over 19 years old were examined using Korean data from the World Values Survey. Findings showed that higher social class was associated with higher levels of Hedonism (which belongs to the individualistic value domain) and Benevolence, and lower levels of Tradition (which belongs to the collectivistic value domain) and Universalism. In Study 2, culture-referent questionnaires were added to examine the differences in self-referenced values and culture-referenced values according to social class. Findings showed that higher social class was associated with greater importance attached to individualistic value domain (namely, Power and Achievement), and as a result of Study 1, less importance attached to Benevolence towards the self. On the contrary, for culture-referent ratings, higher social class was associated with lower perceptions of the importance of individualistic value domain (namely, Self-direction and Hedonism) and greater importance attached to Tradition (which belongs to the collectivistic value domain) for average Koreans. These results suggest that the importance of self-referenced values and culture-referenced values differ by social class. The need for social class research taking into account culture and the importance of the culture-referent ratings is highlighted. Future directions for research are discussed.

  • The study objective was to understand the effects of self-efficacy and occupational value on the major satisfaction of pre-service childcare teachers. A questionnaire survey was conducted targeting 281 pre-service childcare teachers in A city. In the study results, first, pre-service childcare teachers highly perceived the self-regulatory efficacy and confidence of self-efficacy, the intrinsic value of occupational value, and the general satisfaction and perception satisfaction of major satisfaction. Second, there were statistically significant correlations between self-efficacy, occupational value, and major satisfaction of pre-service childcare teachers. Third, the self-efficacy and occupational value of pre-service childcare teachers had positive effects on the major satisfaction. Based on these study results, there should be more diverse research for the formation of proper self-efficacy and correct occupational value, so that students majoring in childcare could perceive the importance of major satisfaction and also perform their childcare jobs with high-quality.

  • This study attempted to investigate how the effectiveness of value-oriented promotion for media contents depends on self-construal and incorporated Schwartz' value system theory(1992) and Gutman's means-end chain theory(1982) into the development of hypotheses. It was expected that media content promotion emphasizing "openness to change" value would be more appealing to those with independent self-construal, whereas media content promotion emphasizing "conservation" value would be more appealing to those with interdependent self-construal. These hypotheses were generally supported in a series of experiments. Also, the dynamic relationship among the four primary value dimensions proposed by Schwartz (i.e., openness to change, conservation, self-enhancement, self-transcendence) was clearly validated in this study.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effect of academic self-efficacy in the process that nursing students' task value affects class participation. The subjects of this study were 161 second-year students of the Department of Nursing at K University located in G city, and the data collection period was from October 5 to October 14, 2020. The mediating effect of academic self-efficacy in the relationship between task value and class participation was analyzed using Baron and Kenny's 3-step mediating effect verification procedure using simple and multiple regression analysis and the statistical significance of mediating effects was verified by the Sobel test. As a result of this study, task value and academic self-efficacy were major factors influencing class participation, and academic self-efficacy was found to be a significant partial mediating variable in the relationship between task value and class participation. These factors explained 55% of class participation. In order to increase learners' class participation, an integrated approach that can improve task value and academic self-efficacy is needed.
