Aerodynamic Rig Test of Radial Turbine for APU (APU용 구심터빈의 공력리그시험)

  • An aerodynamic rig test of a radial turbine for an auxiliary power unit (APU) was performed at a high-temperature turbine test facility at the Korea Aerospace Research Institute. The pressure ratio, Mach number, and flow coefficient in the rig test are the same as those under normal engine operation conditions. The design pressure ratio is 3.096, design test speed is 34909 rpm, and turbine inlet temperature is $160^{\circ}C$. The turbine has airfoil-type nozzles, and the diameter of the turbine wheel is 175.74 mm. The turbine map is experimentally measured, and the detailed flow at the turbine inlet is measured. The pressure distribution in the nozzle at both the hub and the shroud sides and the pressure distribution along the shroud casing of the turbine wheel were measured, and this confirmed that the expansion process in the turbine wheel is acceptable.

  • The performance of fan for engine room of ship is absolutely important when it take into consideration work efficiency, work condition, and the performance of various equipments. Fan performance test should be carried out during sea trial to satisfy owner's requirement as above mentioned. We have considered various values to affect fan test result. In here, various values are to be silencer, fan inlet shape, and arrangement of fan room. In general, the shapes of fan inlet is overall circular type because of the shapes of axial fan. So, all vessels built at SHI have been applied fan inlet of circular type. And now, in order to reduce sound of noise from supply fan, big silencer often has been installed at high value vessels. In this case, the capacity of supplied air can be insufficient due to silencer which is an obstructer about air flow. In this paper, we have studied the performance of fan through comparison between a circular shape and a square shape of fan inlet. We also compare with CFD results and experimental results.

Effect of Tunnel Entrance Shape of High Speed Train on Aerodynamic Characteristics and Entry Compression Wave (고속전철의 터널입구 형상이 공력특성 및 터널입구 압축파에 미치는 영향)

  • The work presented in this paper concerns the aerodynamic characteristics and compression wave generated in a tunnel when a high speed train enters it. A large number of solutions have been proposed to reduce the amplitude of the pressure gradient in tunnels and some of the most efficient solutions consist of (a) addition ofa blind hood, (b) addition of inclined part at the entrance, and (c) holes in the ceiling of the tunnel. These are numerically studied by using the three-dimensional unsteady compressible Euler equation solver with ALE, CFD code, based on FEM method. Computational results showed that the smaller inclined angle leads to the lower pressure gradient of compression wave front. This study indicated that the most efficient slant angle is in the range from $30^{\circ}$ to $50^{\circ}$. The maximum pressure gradient is reduced by $26.81\%$ for the inclined angle of $30^{\circ}$ as compared to vertical entry. Results also showed that maximum pressure gradient can be reduced by $15.94\%$ in blind hood entry as compared to $30^{\circ}$ inclined tunnel entry. Furthermore, the present analysis showed that inclined slant angle has little effect on aerodynamic drag. Comparison of the pressure gradient between the inclined tunnel hood and the vertical entry with air vent holes indicated that the optimum inclined tunnel hood is much more effective way in reducing pressure gradient and increasing the pressure rise time.

Inlet Shape Design of Air Handling Unit Using Commercial CFD Code (상용 CFD코드를 이용한 공조기 입구 형상 설계)

  • A commercial CFD code is used to compute the 3-D viscous flow field within the inlet flow concentrator of the newly developed AHU (Air Handling Unit). To improve the performance of the AHU, the inlet air needs to be gradually accelerated to the fan's annular velocity without causing turbulence or flow separation. Three major geometric parameters were selected to specify the inlet shape of the AHU. The performance of the AHU could be measured by the inlet and outlet flow uniformity and the total pressure loss through the inlet flow concentrator. Several numerical calculations were carried out to determine the influence of the geometric parameters on the performance of the AHU. The best geometric values were decided to have efficient inlet shape with analyzing CFD calculation results.

  • Numerical calculation has been performed to investigate the effect of inlet configuration on the growth rate of GaN layer on the heated susceptor. The conventional single inlet, where the gas is mixed by force in the inlet, is compared with separated flow inlet. Two-parallel gas flow $H_{2}$ and $NH_{3}$ are separated by a plate with finite length which are also parallel to the susceptor. The effect of separated plate length, carrier gas and flow rate of each precursor on the mixing of reactant gases and growth rate were investigated. Furthermore the three dimensional model is employed to predict the transverse variation of growth rate.

Effect of Inlet Velocity Distribution on the Heat Transfer Coefficient in a Rotating Smooth Channel (입구 속도 분포가 매끈한 회전유로 내 열전달계수에 미치는 영향)

  • The effect of inlet velocity profile on the heat transfer coefficient in a rotating smooth channel was investigated experimentally. Three simulated inlet flow conditions of fully developed, uniform, and distorted inlet conditions were tested. The Reynolds number based on the channel hydraulic diameter was ranged from 10,000 to 30,000 and the transient liquid crystal technique was used to measure the distribution of the heat transfer coefficient in the rotating channel. Results showed that the overall heat transfer coefficient increased as the Reynolds number increased. Also, the distribution of the heat transfer coefficient was strongly affected by the inlet flow condition. Generally, the fully developed flow simulated condition showed the highest heat transfer coefficient.

연소실 냉각성능 개선을 위한 경사슬롯 막냉각에서의 유동 및 열전달 특성

  • 추진기관의 연소실과 같이 큰 열부하를 받는 경우 막냉각은 연소실을 보호하기 위해서 사용되는 대표적인 냉각기법이다. 막냉각의 성능을 극대화하기 위해서는 냉각유체를 2차원 슬롯을 통해서 분사시키는 것이 가장 효율적이지만 여러 가지 이유 때문에 실제 적용에 있어서는 슬롯입구 부근에 작은 구멍을 만들어 이로부터 분사되는 유체를 통해서 냉각시키게 된다. 본 연구에서는 주어진 덕트에서 분사율, 분사방법, 슬롯의 형상에 따른 슬롯 출구에서의 유동장 및 온도장 측정과 함께 물질전달 방법을 이용하여 슬롯 립(slot lip) 내벽에서 자세한 국소 열/물질전달계수를 구하였다. 분사율 0.5와 1.0에 대해서 주유동과 같은 방향으로 분사시켜줄 경우와, 유동을 제한시켜 주고 이차유동의 방향을 각각 주유동과 같은 방향과 반대방향으로 분사시키는 방법에 대하여 실험하였으며, 슬롯 입구에 경사슬롯을 설치하여 냉각유체를 분사시키는 방법에 대해서 실험하였다.

비대칭 고속 쌍동선의 선미터널 입구영역 경사각 변화에 따른 유체역학적 특성 연구

  • 쌍동선형은 단동선형에 비해 안정성 및 저항성능이 우수하며 그 형상은 일반적으로 대칭 및 비대칭으로 구분한다. 이러한 쌍동선은 고속으로 운항하는 경우 선체사이의 파랑 중첩현상을 줄이기 위해 주로 비대칭선형을 사용한다. 또한, 중소형선박은 선미터널을 적용하여 추력효율을 향상시킨다. 본 연구에서는 비대칭 고속 쌍동선의 선미터널 입구영역의 경사각 변화에 따른 유체역학적 특성(저항성능, 항주자세, 압력분포)에 대한 수치해석 연구를 수행하였다. 수치해석은 상용프로그램 STAR CCM+를 이용하였다.

Numerical study of the influence of inlet shape design of a horizontal MOCVD reactor on the characteristics of epitaxial layer growth (수평 화학기상증착 반응기의 입구형상 설계가 단결정 박막증착률 특성에 미치는 영향에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • In this study, a numerical analysis of the deposition of gallium arsenide from TMGa and arsine in a horizontal MOCVD reactor is performed to investigate the effect of inlet diffuser shape of reactor on the flow and deposition characteristics. The effects of two geometric parameters (diffuser angle, diffuser shape) on the growth rate, growth rate uniformity, flow uniformity and pressure loss are presented. As a results, it is found that the optimum linear diffuser angle is in the range of $50^{\circ}$$55^{\circ}$ and parabolic diffuser in the range of $40^{\circ}$$45^{\circ}$ from the viewpoint of growth rate uniformity, flow uniformity and average growth rate. It is also found that variation of diffuser angle has greater impact on growth rate uniformity than average growth rate particularly in parabolic diffuser.

  • An ejector is a kind of pump which is using pressure energy of high pressure fluid. This study aims to investigate performance influencing according to change the ejector mixing section shape using CFD simulation by Finite Volume Method. Optimum conditions were suggested 3 kind of variable such as nozzle diameter, nozzle length, distance from nozzle tip to the diffuser inlet. The results, It was confirmed that the diameter of the nozzle was the greatest effect in performance of the ejector. The diameter of the nozzle get smaller, mixing ratio was increased. On the other hand, nozzle length, distance from nozzle tip to the diffuser inlet had little effect on performance. It was proposed specific Mixing section, Nozzel diameter 23.8mm using the Artificial Neural Network.
