Development of Convergence Educational Program Using AI Platform: Focusing on Environmental Education for Grades 5-6 (인공지능 플랫폼을 활용한 융합수업안 개발 : 5-6학년 환경교육을 중심으로)

  • With the advent of the 4th industrial revolution, the need for artificial intelligence education has increased. The online learning environment caused by COVID-19 made it possible to use variety of artificial intelligence platforms. In this study, an aritificial intelligence class plan was developed and proposed to achieve the goal of artificial intelligence education using an AI platform. The AI platform used is AI for Oceans, With the theme of creating a program for the environment, designed a 6-hour project class using Novel Engineering-based on STEAM model. Students experience AI for Oceans enough time and learn supervised learning by experience. Based on understanding of supervised learning, students design their own programs for the environment using Entry's AI blocks. In this study, for AI convergence education, this lesson was developed and presented with the goal of acquiring the creative problem solving ability and integrated thinking ability by using the principles of artificial intelligence to solve problems.

  • With the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, discussions on the use of artificial intelligence are actively taking place in many fields, and various policies for nurturing artificial intelligence talents are being promoted in the field of education. In this study, we propose a robot programming framework using artificial intelligence technology, and based on this, we use Python, which is used frequently in the machine learning field, and an educational robot that is highly utilized in the field of education to provide artificial intelligence. (AI) education program was proposed. The level of autonomous driving (levels 0-5) suggested by the International Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) is simplified to four levels, and based on this, the camera attached to the robot recognizes and detects lines (objects). The goal was to make a line detector that can move by itself. The developed program is not a standardized form of solving a given problem by simply using a specific programming language, but has the experience of defining complex and unstructured problems in life autonomously and solving them based on artificial intelligence (AI) technology. It is meaningful.

  • This study was carried out for the purpose of Exploring the types of AI platforms for creative activities and how to use them. In order to learn AI in the fields of art creation and music creation, which are representative areas of creative activity, types of AI platforms that can experience AI and perform simple programming were investigated. In addition, the utilization plan was presented so that each AI platform can be used to express students' ideas abundantly and to enhance their creativity. Through this, it is meaningful to suggest that the AI platform can be used as a teaching aid to enhance students' expressive power and creativity in creative activities.

  • As the core technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, AI is applied to various fields of society(e.g. politics, culture, industry, economy, etc.) and causes revolutionary changes. Students who will lead the age of AI need the ability to recognize social changes due to AI, acquire AI related knowledge and utilize AI in various situations. However, it is difficult for elementary school students to understand the concept and principles of AI. Therefore, this study developed an AI education program by selecting educational contents and methods appropriate to the level of elementary school students, and investigated the educational effects of the program by applying it to an actual educational setting. The content selected in this study is 'Social Awareness on AI', 'Understanding AI' and 'Utilizing AI', and eight content elements were selected. To help students learn AI easily and pleasantly at their level, activity-centered education, convergence of subjects and project-based learning were selected as instructional methods, and 20 sessions of education program were developed and implemented. In addition, the effects of the program were analyzed concerning 'perception on AI', 'convergent thinking', 'creative problem-solving' and 'collaboration capability', and positive changes were verified for all four aspects.

  • Modern society is exposed to various types of crises. In particular, since the September 11 attacks, each country has been increasingly responsible for managing non-military crises. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to consider ways to utilize artificial intelligence(AI) for national crisis management in the era of the fourth industrial revolution. To this end, we analyzed the effectiveness of artificial intelligence(AI) operated and under research and development(R&D) to support human decision-making and examined the possibility of using artificial intelligence(AI) to national crisis management. As a result of the study, artificial intelligence(AI) provides objective judgment of the data-based situation and optimal countermeasures to policymakers, enabling them to make decisions in urgent crisis situations, indicating that it is efficient to use artificial intelligence(AI) for national crisis. These findings suggest the possibility of using artificial intelligence(AI) to respond quickly and efficiently to the national crisis.

  • This study explored the concept of artificial intelligence and the problem-solving process that can be explained through literature research. Through this study, the educational meaning and application plan of artificial intelligence that can be explained were presented. XAI education is a human-centered artificial intelligence education that deals with human-related artificial intelligence problems, and students can cultivate problem-solving skills. In addition, through algorithmic education, it is possible to understand the principles of artificial intelligence, explain artificial intelligence models related to real-life problem situations, and expand to the field of application of artificial intelligence. In order for such XAI education to be applied in elementary schools, examples related to real world must be used, and it is recommended to utilize those that the algorithm itself has interpretability. In addition, various teaching and learning methods and tools should be used for understanding to move toward explanation. Ahead of the introduction of artificial intelligence in the revised curriculum in 2022, we hope that this study will be meaningfully used as the basis for actual classes.

Applications and Possibilities of Artificial Intelligence in Mathematics Education (수학교육에서 인공지능 활용 가능성)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the applications and possibilities of major programs that provide services using artificial intelligence in mathematics education. For this study, related papers, reports, and materials were collected and analyzed, focusing on materials mostly published within the last five years. The researcher searched the keywords of "artificial intelligence", "artificial intelligence", "AI" and "mathematics education" independently or in combination. As a result of the study, artificial intelligence for mathematics education was mostly supporting learners' personalized mathematics learning, defining it as an auxiliary role to support human mathematics teachers, and upgrading the technology of not only cognitive aspects but also affective aspects. As suggestions, the researcher argued that followings are necessary: Research for the establishment of an elaborate artificial intelligence mathematical system, discovery of artificial intelligence technology for appropriate use to support mathematics education, development of high quality of mathematics contents for artificial intelligence, and the establishment and operation of a cloud-based comprehensive system for mathematics education. The researcher proposed that continuous research to effectively help students study mathematics using artificial intelligence including students' emotional or empathetic abilities, and collaborative learning, which is only possible in offline environments. Also, the researcher suggested that more sophisticated materials should be developed for designing mathematics teaching and learning by using artificial intelligence.

  • Currently development of the Artificial Intelligence technology is rapidly progressing in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The government is trying to improve the education of Artificial Intelligence and cultivating human resources. However there are very few cases where A.I technology is actually used in public education classes. Therefore we designed a text repository by implementing A.I speech recognition to provide career counseling for elementary school students. In the meantime, there have been many difficulties in giving advance consultations required for students' career counseling. In this study we suggested A.I speech recognition technology which can solve addressed problem and we planned various ways to make the program more educational. To conclude we expect A.I technology implemented in this study provides effective solution to career counseling.

Methods for Implementing Environmental Education in Elementary Schools by using AI Programming (초등교육에서 인공지능 프로그래밍을 활용한 환경교육 적용 방법)

  • Even though environmental education has been getting more attention along with the recent rapid increase of natural disasters such as heat wave, heavy snow and downpour, it is unlikely for elementary schools to provide actual lessons due to the shortage of financial support and educational resources. This study is designed to enhance the recycling judgement of the elementary students to define paper, glass, plastic, PET, metal by using AI programming. The survey from the student participants shows that the learning and practice with AI programming was positively helpful for more than 70% of the participants in knowledge obtaining and understanding of recycling. The participants also gained better understanding on artificial intelligence and got motivated to have more opportunities to learn artificial intelligence programming.

Secondary Mathematics Teachers' Perceptions on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Math and Math for Artificial Intelligence (AI) (도구로서 인공지능과 교과로서 인공지능에 대한 중등 수학 교사의 인식 탐색)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore secondary mathematics teachers' perceptions on Artificial Intelligence (AI). For this purpose, we conducted three focus group interviews with 18 secondary in-service mathematics teachers and analyzed their perceptions on AI for math and math for AI. The secondary in-service mathematics teachers perceive that AI allows to implement different types of mathematics instruction but has limitations in exploring students' mathematical thinking and having emotional interactions with students. They also perceive that AI makes it easy to develop assessment items for teachers but teachers' interventions are needed for grading essay-type assessment items. Lastly, the secondary in-service mathematics teachers agree the rationale of adopting the subject <Artificial Intelligence Mathematics> and its needs for students, but they perceive that they are not well prepared yet to teach the subject and do not have sufficient resources for teaching the subject and assessing students' understanding about the subject. The findings provide implications and insights for developing individualized AI learning tools for students in the secondary level, providing AI assessment tools for teachers, and offering professional development programs for teachers to increase their understanding about the subject.
