  • In this paper, the communication method of data information accepted by underwater drones and the implementation method to console display of data information were described, and the function of integrated monitoring system interface and the design and implementation of sonar interface were explained. The operation and posture of underwater drones can be controlled using a controller connected to the console, and the distance information between underwater drones and obstacles is obtained from sonar so that they can be visually displayed on the console screen along with camera images. The integrated monitoring navigation console is implemented to suit improvements, making it convenient and easy for workers to use. In addition, by upgrading integrated monitoring and control software functions, the company added user-specific project management functions and the output of reports for hull inspection to make them different and competitive from other underwater drones.

  • Through intensity modulation induced by micro bending of an optical fiber, a sensor detects the pressure and frequency of acoustic wave has been implemented. Axial slots on the cylinder suface with a period of 5.5 mm induce efficient microbending of the fiber, and a rubber sleeve covering the fiber enhances the fiber. Compared with a conventional hydrophone, it has a low minimum detectable pressure and can detect acoustic wave in 100Hz - 2KHz range.

  • When we urgently need to develop and supply an alternative energy, wind power is growing with much interest because it has relative low cost of power and area of tower. To estimate the wind power resource, it is necessary to make an observation first. Although the large wind falm and resources are near coast and mountain area, the wind energy in urban area has the strong thing of direct access to power generator. In this study, we estimate the probability of wind energy above urban area using SODAR data, which is located at the top of the tall building (140m).

  • The efficiency of active sonar that is used underwater observation equipment is important for obtain the information of topography and trace for the objects. Sound wave transmitted from sonar are distorted by acoustic window which is to protect sonar. Making various sonar dome is impossible for experiment, because consumed unnecessary time and expense. So, the purpose of this study is to simulate and analyze the acoustic window propagated sound wave from sonar for designing model reduced insertion loss. Simulation is performed by transient analysis and fluid-structure interaction analysis. As a result, this study will give a opportunity for efficient design of sonar dome without high cost and time consumption.

  • It is important to manage artificial fish reefs with installation for restoration. we made survey for installation's condition(location, amount etc), fish community and amount of fishing net around installation area(6,142ha) in Yeosu of artificial fish reefs with side scan sonar and diving. Also we suggests better method of management after installation of artificial fish reefs.

  • When we urgently need to develop and supply an alternative energy, wind power is growing with much interest because it has relative low cost of power and area of tower. To estimate the wind power resource, it is necessary to make an wind resource map first. On the study of wind resource map in the Korean peninsula, Southern coast was needed to investigate the possibility of developing wind power complex because of good wind resources. In this study, we made a vertical observation to analyze the properties of wind in coastal area. From tethered sonde observation, we knew that synoptic effect had an influence higher in second day than first day. This means local wind circulation is generated on first day but not second day. The local wind made vertical wind shear strong in first day. Also, there was large difference of wind speed between layers at night time by analysis of SODAR observation.

  • Korea is surrounded by the sea and has rivers connecting to it throughout the inland areas, which has been a geographical characteristic since ancient times. As a result, there have been exchanges and conflicts with various countries through the sea, and rivers have facilitated the transportation of ships carrying grain, goods paid for by taxes, and passengers. Since the past, the sea and rivers have had a significant impact on the lives of Koreans. Consequently, it is expected that there are many cultural heritages submerged in the sea and rivers, and continuous efforts are being made to discover and preserve them. Underwater cultural heritage is difficult to discover due to its location in the sea or rivers, making direct visual observation and exploration challenging. To overcome these limitations, various geophysical survey techniques are employed. Geophysical survey methods utilize the physical properties of elastic waves, including their reflection and refraction, to conduct surveys such as bathymetry, underwater topography and strata. These techniques detect the physical characteristics of underwater objects and seafloor formation in the underwater environment, analyze differences, and identify underwater cultural heritage located on or buried in the seabed. Bathymetry uses an echo sounder, and an underwater topography survey uses a side-scan sonar to find underwater artifacts lying on or partially exposed to the seabed, and a marine shallow strata survey uses a sub-bottom profiler to find underwater heritages buried in the seabed. However, the underwater cultural heritage discovered in domestic waters thus far has largely been accidental findings by fishermen, divers, or octopus hunters. This study aims to analyze and summarize the latest research trends in equipment used for underwater cultural heritage exploration, including bathymetric surveys, underwater topography surveys and strata surveys. The goal is to contribute to research on underwater cultural heritage investigation in the domestic context.

  • Deposited Marine Debris(DMD) can negatively affect marine ecosystems, fishery resources, and maritime safety and is mainly detected by sonar sensors, lifting frames, and divers. Considering the limitation of cost and time, recent efforts are being made by integrating underwater images and artificial intelligence (AI). We conducted a comparative study of You Only Look Once Version 5 (YOLOv5) and You Only Look Once Version 7 (YOLOv7) models to detect DMD from underwater images for more accurate and efficient management of DMD. For the detection of the DMD objects such as glass, metal, fish traps, tires, wood, and plastic, the two models showed a performance of over 0.85 in terms of Mean Average Precision (mAP@0.5). A more objective evaluation and an improvement of the models are expected with the construction of an extensive image database.
