  • Nano sized mixed metal hexagonal ferrite powders with improved magnetic properties have been prepared by sol-gel method using propylene oxide as a gelation agent. To obtain the desired ferrite, two different metal ions were used. One of the ions has only +2 formal charge. The key step in the processes is that hydrated $Ba^{2+}$ or $Sr^{2+}$ ions are hydrolyzed and condensed at the surface of the previously formed $Fe_{2}O_{3}$ gel. In this processes, all the reaction can be finished within a few minutes. The magnetic properties of the produced powder were improved by heat treatment. The highest values of the magnetic properties were achieved at temperature $150^{\circ}C$ lower than those of the previously published values. The highest observed values of coercivity and the saturation magnetization of Sr-ferrite and Ba-ferrite powder were 6198 Oe, 5155 Oe and 74.4 emu/g, 68.1 emu/g, respectively. The ferrite powder annealed at $700^{\circ}C$ showed spherical particle shapes. The resulting spheres which were formed by the aggregation of nanoparticles with size 3~5 nm have diameter around 50 nm. The powder treated at $800^{\circ}C$ showed hexagonal-shaped grains with crystallite size above 500 nm.

  • We investigated the optimal etching conditions and properties of the surface change due to molten KOH/NaOH chemical wet etching using an AlN wafer which has been put to practical use in the present study. Results were observed using a scanning electron microscope after 5 minutes etching at $350^{\circ}C$, was found to have a surface form of the respective other Al-face, the N-face. In particular, etch-pit in the form of a hexagon, which is observed in the Al-face appeared, It was calculated at $2{\times}10^6/cm^2{\sim}10^{10}/cm^2$ dislocation density. In the case of N-face, lattice defects in the form of the hexagonal pyramids is formed. It was discovered that in order to observe the orientation of the wafer, which corresponds to the C-axis direction of the resulting hexagonal AlN which was analyzed using XRD (0002) and is a state of being oriented in the (0004) plane. The Radius of curvature of AlN wafer was 1.6~17 m measured by DC-XRD rocking curve position.

  • This study evaluated the effect of 3 different compatible screws on the detorque values in a multiple implant-supported superstructure and single implant abutments. An implant superstructure directly connected to 4 implants was screwed to 6 experimental dental stone casts made by acrylic resin splinted impressions, using 20 Ncm. The detorque values of screws were measured twice. Three compatible abutment screws used in this study were TorqTite screw, Gold-Tite screw, and, Titanium screw. And, using single implant abutments (GoldAdapt Engaging abutments), the detorque values of 3 different screws were measured twice on 2 implants of 5 experimental casts. According to statistical analysis of detorque values using mixed model at a .05 level of significance, no statistically significant differences among 3 different compatible screws were found in a multiple implant-supported superstructure (p>0.05). But, in single implant abutments, statistically significant differences among 3 different compatible screws were found (p=0.0175). The detorque values of TorqTite(p=0.0462) and Titanium(p=0.0348) screws were significantly higher than those of Gold-Tite screw, but no statisticantly significantlydifferences were found between TorqTite and Titanium screws(p>0.05). Therefore, various compatible screws showed significant effects on the detorque values for single implant abutment, but, showed no significant effects for a multiple implant-supported superstructure.

  • Based on the result that biological control agent (BCA) increased the dissolved microcystin-LR in a field experiment to control the cyanobacterial bloom (Kim etal., 2005), a laboratory experiment was used to evaluate the effects of dissolved microcystin-LR (MCLR) with different concentrations on abundance, dominance, diversity of phytoplankton community, concentration of chlorophyll a and microcystin concentration in replicated microcosms. The treatments in this laboratory experiment comprised different concentrations of T1 (natural MCLR concentration), T10 (ten times to natural MCLR concentration), and T100 (one hundred times to natural MCLR concentration). MCLR treatment of exclusively Stephanodiscus hantzschii-dominated community in Chonho bridge hardly changed in algal species, but abundance. In Kildong pond, Aulacoseira and Dinobryonrich community was replaced by green algae Scenedesmus-rich community especially in T100 experiment. However, in Yangsoori-Ryukgakji Pond having the highest concentration of initial MCLR, Microcystis aeruginosa was decreased in abundance. Therefore, the treatment of BCA to control M. aeruginosa severely changed the Phytoplankton community in term of algal species, abundance (chlorophyll a) and dissolved microcystin-LR via a high release of MCLR.

  • In spite of dramatic change of environmental condition since Cambrian big-bang (explosion occurred ca.540 mya, the phylum Arthropoda retains a great diversity, and it is estimated approximately that 1-10 million arthropod species are extant on the earth. Except for an extinct arthopod subphylum Trilobita, extant arthropods could be divided into five subphyla: Hexapoda, Crustacea, Myriapoda, Chelicerata, and Pycnosonida. During the last century, systematists have disputed about interrealtionships among Arthropoda and its relatives (Onychophora, Tardigrada, and Pentastomida), arthropod phylogenetic position within protostome animals, monophyly or polyphyly of the phylum Arthropods, and interrelationships among five arthropod subgroups (subphyla) etc. Recently, new animal phylogeny was reported that protostomes could be clustered into two groups, Lophotrochozoa and Ecdysozoa, and molting animals such as Nematoda and Arthropoda were included within the Ecdysozoa. On the basis of the new animal phylogeny, first of all, I would mention phylogenetic positions and relationships of Arthropods and its relatives to introduce controversies of arthropod phylogeny in phylum level of animals. After that, I focused mainly on the controveries related to arthropod monophyly and phylogenetic relationships among four major arthropod groups except Pycnogonida. In this work, Pycnogonida which is a relatively small group and one of the five arthropod subphyla was not handled significantly although there are some controversies if it is a sister taxon of chelicerates or the most primitive arthropod group (namely, a sister of four remains arthropod groups).

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a miniature imaging gamma probe with high performance that can detect small or residual tumors after surgery. Gamma probe detector system consists of NaI(Tl) scintillator, position sensitive photomultiplier tube (PSPMT), and collimator. PSPMT was optically coupled with 6.5 mm thick, 7.62 cm diameter of NaI(Tl) crystal and supplied with -1000V for high voltage. Parallel hexagonal hole collimator was manufactured for characteristics of 40-mm hole length, 1.3-mm hole diameter, and 0.22 mm septal thickness. Electronics consist of position and trigger signal readout systems. Position signals were obtained with summing, subtracting, and dividing circuit using preamplifer and amplifier. Trigger signals were obtained using summing amplifier, constant fraction discriminator, and gate and delay generator module with preamplifer. Data acquisition and processing were performed by Gamma-PF interface board inserted into pentium PC and PIP software. For imaging studies, flood and slit mask images were acquired using a point source. Two hole phantom images were also acquired with collimator. Intrinsic and system spatial resolutions were measured as 3.97 mm and 5.97 mm, respectively. In conclusion, Miniature gamma probe images based on the PSPMT showed good image quality, we conclude that the miniature imaging gamma probe was successfully developed and good image data were obtained. However, further studies will be required to optimize imaging characteristics.

  • Thermoelectric bismuth telluride thin films were prepared on $SiO_{2}$/Si substrate with co-sputtering of bismuth and tellurium targets. The effects of deposition temperature on surface morphology, crystallinity and electrical transport properties were investigated. Hexagonal crystallites were clearly visible at the surface of films deposited above $290 ^{\circ}C$. Change of dominant phase from rhombohedral $Bi_2Te_3$ to hexagonal BiTe was confirmed with X-ray diffraction analysis. The deviation from stoichiometric composition at high deposition temperature resulted in the change of structural and electrical characteristics. Seebeck coefficients of all samples have negative value, indicating the prepared $Bi_XTe_Y$ films are n-type thermoelectric. Optimum of Seebeck coefficient and power factor were obtained at the deposition temperature of $225 \^{circ}$C (about -55 $\mu$V/K and $3\times10^{-4}$ W/$k^{2}$m, respectively). Deterioration of thermoelectric properties at higher temperature.

  • To use the external connection implant (EXT) appropriately, the inter-implant distance should be carefully considered during placement, and the bones raised above the implants should be trimmed during the second surgery. The hex abutment is more useful than the non-hex abutment. EXT is particularly useful when the inter-arch space is limited. The tissue level (TL, internal butt connection) implant has a biomechanical advantage of coronal wall thickness and a biological advantage of an inherent transmucosal smooth surface. During TL implant restoration, an abutment can be selected using the abutment and fixture margins with considerations for the inter-arch space. Since no single type of implant can satisfy all the cases, it is necessary to select the appropriate type, considering the occlusal force and the bone condition.

  • In this study, waste carbon fiber obtained by pyrolysis of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) was used to produce carbon fluoride through vapor phase fluorination and recycled as a reducing electrode material for lithium primary batteries. First, the physicochemical properties of the waste carbon fiber obtained by pyrolysis were determined, and the structural and chemical properties of carbon fluoride were analyzed to evaluate the effect of vapor phase fluorination on the waste carbon fiber. XRD analysis confirmed that the hexagonal network carbon laminated structure (002 peak) of the waste carbon fiber was gradually converted into a carbon fluoride structure (CFX, 001 peak) as the temperature of gas phase fluorination increased. The discharge capacity of the lithium primary battery produced using this carbon fluoride was up to 862 mAh/g. This was compared to the discharge capacity of carbon fluoride-based Li-ion batteries made of other carbon materials. These results suggest that carbon fluoride made from waste CFRP-based carbon fibers can be used as a reducing electrode material for Li-ion batteries.
