  • This study tests the relation of various fashion-related features of young male consumers. Clothing involvement, fashion involvement, fashion innovativeness, impulsive buying, and brand loyalty have been considered as focal variables in understanding consumer attitudes & behaviors toward fashion. This study proposed hypotheses on the relationships among these variables and tests them with survey data from a convenient sample of male university students. A total 195 complete responses were obtained from young men between 18 and 27 years of age. The results are as follows. First, fashion involvement and clothing involvement significantly (+) affected fashion innovativeness, and fashion innovativeness also significantly (+) affected impulsive buying and brand loyalty. Second, impulsive buying insignificantly affected brand loyalty. Third, the groups of young men divided by the demographical variables partially showed meaningful differences in fashion-related variables of interest. This study investigates the relationships among various fashion variables that have been used as critical explaining variables for fashion attitudes and behaviors, especially for young male consumers.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate whether customers' fashion involvement, brand familiarity, and expertise of negative information moderate the influence of the original brand attitudes on the attitude toward extended brand attitudes in the fashion market. For these purposes, four hypotheses were developed and data was collected from 480 students. Data was analyzed using SPSS methods such as factor analysis, frequency, 1-test, and moderated regression analysis. The results were as follows; first, it was found that the original brand attitudes positively influence the extended brand attitudes. Second, the influence of the original brand attitudes on the extended brand attitudes was stronger when fashion involvement was high rather than low. Third, in the case that perceived similarity between the original and the extended product classes was high, the influence of the original brand attitudes on the extended brand attitudes was stronger when brand familarity was high. Fourth, the influence of original brand attitudes on the extended brand attitudes was stronger when the perceived expertise of negative information source on the extended brand was high. Therefore, the results suggest that extending brands requires the systematic brand management considering customers' variables such as fashion involvement, brand familiarity, negative information etc. Also, it seems that the brand strategy should be based on the segmentation for targeted customers' characteristics.

  • This study analyzes the effect of clothing involvement using meta-analysis. Metal-analysis (the analysis of analyses) is widely used in various academic areas to integrate individual empirical studies and generalize the knowledge of a specific research field. Previous studies regarding clothing involvement published since 1990 were researched from the KISS database using clothing involvement and fashion involvement as a keyword; subsequently, 127 articles were identified. Studies that had insufficient statistics or included clothing involvement as a moderating (or intervening variable) were eliminated; subsequently, 36 articles provided a total of 75 data sets that were used for the final analysis. Dependent variables were grouped into 10 categories to compare the differences between high and low involvement groups. The effect size of clothing involvement was large in non-personal information source; however, it was small in utility, brand royalty and quality. In the 7 categories of relational studies that showed homogeneity, the relation size regarding conformity was smaller than the personal information source.

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate clothing involvement and clothing information source on personality types. Personality types were applied using Myers-Briggs Type Indicator(MBTI). Clothing involvement was measured using 17 questions of 5-point scales. Clothing information source was measured using 16 items of 5-point scales. The data were collected from 275 female using questionnaire. The data analysed with frequence, factor analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Duncan test. The clothing involvement included three factors: Symbolic Expression, Pleasure and Interest, and Fashionability. The clothing information source included four factors: Printed Media, Radio Media, Professional Media and Store Search. Extroversion-introvertion and thinking-feeling index had significant difference in the dimensions of clothing involvement. Extroversion types were significantly evaluated fashionability more than introvertion types(t=2.008, p<.05). Feeling types were significantly evaluated fashionability more than thinking types (t=2.428, p<.05). Extroversion-introvertion index had significant difference in clothing information source. Extroversion types were significantly used printed media more than Introvertion types.
