  • 의사소통 기술에서 유머는 사람을 웃게 만들며 분위기를 환기시키고, 관계를 돈독하게 만드는 효과를 지닌다. 이를 자연어처리에서 유머 분류, 인식, 탐지로 적용하여 유머를 기계에 학습시키려 하는 다양한 시도가 진행되고 있지만 유머의 주관성과 윤리적 문제로 탁월한 성능을 기록하기 어렵고, 특히 한국어 유머에 대한 자연어처리 분야의 논의는 미비한 상태이다. 이에 본 연구는 유머 평가 체계를 만들어 ChatGPT에 적용하여 유머 인식의 주관성을 극복할 수 있는 자동화 실험을 진행한다. 이때, 유머의 윤리적 문제를 보완하기 위해 한국 법률을 적용한 윤리 기준을 도입하여 유머 데이터셋을 마련하였으며, 데이터셋을 ChatGPT에 fine-tuning 하여 재미있는 생성 모델의 개발 가능성을 실험하였다.

Fun Space or workplace? The Role of Humor in Navigating Work-personal Space in South Korean Organizations (일탈적 행위, 유머: 한국 기업 구성원의 일과 개인 공간의 지각)

  • Organizational humor is generally perceived as a phenomenon that helps to develop happy feelings and positive workspace. While humor may affect organizational members in diverse ways, the ambiguous nature of humor may create uncertainty and unexpected outcomes. In particular, humor used by and between organizational members in diverse organizational situations (including physical office context and work hours) may influence individual's perception of space. Findings suggest that humor interaction acts as a form of deviant behavior that diverts from work. This momentary non-work event (humor) may serve as a ritual to influence individual's perception of space, from work to personal domain, and vice versa. The quality of interpersonal relationships between the communicators may also be influenced by humor. This shift in the nature of interaction (from work to non-work) may lead to blurring boundaries of work and work experiences. Therefore, organizational humor may provide insights into how workers interact, perceive, and manage work and personal space within organizational contexts.

Comparing Types and Creativity Level of Scientific Humors Made by General and Scientifically-Gifted Elementary Students and Their Perceptions for Educational Benefits of Making Scientific Humor (초등 일반 및 과학영재 학생의 과학 유머 유형과 창의성 수준, 과학 유머 만들기의 교육적 효과에 대한 인식 비교)

  • This study compared the types and creativity level of scientific humors made by general and scientifically-gifted elementary students and their perceptions for educational benefits of making scientific humor. To do this, fifth graders (n=42) at an elementary school and fifth graders (n=38) at a gifted science education institutes in Seoul were selected. Scientific humors made by the students were analyzed and compared according to their types and creativity levels in scientific humor. The students' perceptions for educational benefits of making scientific humor were also analyzed and compared through a questionnaire. Analysis of the results reveal that there were some differences in the incidence rates in 'form' aspects (e.g., generative and descriptive forms) and 'content' aspects (e.g., inclusion of curriculum, scientific discipline, type in use of scientific knowledge, and nature of the situation) between the scientifically-gifted and general elementary students. The scientifically-gifted students also made more fluent, flexible, and original, but similarly useful scientific humors than the general students. Most of general and scientifically-gifted elementary students perceived positively the educational benefits of making scientific humor based on various cognitive and affective aspects.

A Joker's Image: Humor, Work Impressions, and Culture in Korean Workplaces (유머러스한 기업 구성원: 유머, 문화, 그리고 인상관리)

  • Humor is often considered as a positive phenomenon, and thus frequently employed as an impression management technique for individuals. However, humor may create unexpected outcomes in terms of impression management. This study investigates the relationship between humor and impression management of individuals within three South Korean organizations. A qualitative methodology is employed and data collected through participant observation and semi-structured interviews. Findings suggest that humor may be used more frequently by workers in superior positions, and it may be dangerous for individuals in subordinate positions to initiate humor, as negative impressions such as lack of professionalism and work competence may be crafter through humor. In particular, traditional Confucian values and expectations may lead to perceptions that humor is inappropriate and even rude when it is used by individuals in subordinate positions. However, humor may help to craft an independent identity, and help alter user's impressions as desired. This suggests that while perceptions towards humor as an impression management tool may embed significant risks, humor may help individuals to influence their impressions and diverge from a stereotypical expectations and impressions of workers(according to their hierarchical status), which may be interpreted in multiple ways. This implies that organizations should be careful in encouraging workers to use humor as an impression management tactic, as the relational outcomes may be complex, depending on the cultural understanding of hierarchy and relationships between communicators.

Effects of Restaurant Employees' Sense of Humor on Job Satisfaction and Turnover Intention (레스토랑 종업원의 유머감각이 직무만족과 이직의도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • This study empirically analyzed the effects of employees' sense of humor on job satisfaction and turnover intention focusing on those who work for restaurants in Seoul to provide preliminary data for effective human resource management in the foodservice industry. In terms of a sense of humor, meta message sensitivity, preference for humor, emotional expression, and coping scale of a sense of humor were drawn as the factors. The findings are as follows. First, among the factors of humor, preference for humor, reaction to humor, and meta message sensibility affected job satisfaction positively in order. On the contrary, emotional expression was found not to affect it. Second, preference for humor and emotional expression affected turnover intention negatively in order whereas meta message sensibility and reaction to humor did not affect it. Therefore, based on the research result that a sense of humor affects job satisfaction and turnover intention, it is needed to recognize the importance of humor and consider evaluation on a sense of humor when screening employees.

  • The current study analyzed the relationship between expression type of humor ads and their advertising effects and the differences in advertising effects by expression type according to temperament as categorized by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Expression type of humor was classified into arousal-, incongruity-, and superiority-type humor ads. Advertising effects were measured by consumers' cognitive, affective, and conative responses. Three ads were created based on expression type of humor. A personality type, as measured by the MBTI, was categorized into four types of temperament, namely SP, SJ, NF, NT and used as moderating variables. As a result, the advertising effects varied according to the expression type of humor advertising. Interaction effects between ad expression type and temperament on ad feeling and ad preference were also found.

The Effects of Pre-service Early Childhood Teacher's Sense of Humor and Emotional Intelligence on Teacher Efficacy (예비유아교사의 유머감각과 정서지능이 교사효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the pre-service early childhood teacher's sense of humor, emotional intelligence on their teacher efficacy. The subjects of this study were 253 pre-service early childhood teachers in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. The statistical analysis of this study was analyzed using the SPSS V. 22.0 program. The result of the study is summarized as follows. First, in terms of the result for general trends in sense of humor, emotional intelligence, and teacher efficacy were found to be above normal. Second, the result of the current study reveals that the sense of humor, emotional intelligence, and teacher efficacy was correlated. Also, there was a statistically significant positive correlation between the sense of humor, emotional intelligence, and teacher efficacy. Third, it was found that the 'creation of humor', 'humor preference' of sub-factor in the sense of humor, and 'to perceive other people's emotion' of sub-factor in emotional intelligence affected the early childhood pre-service teacher's teacher efficacy. Therefore, it is necessary to promote both sense of humor and emotional intelligence in order to enhance the teacher efficacy in pre-service early childhood teachers.

An Analysis on Humor Expression in Internet Banner Advertising (인터넷 배너광고의 유머 표현 분석)

  • As the Internet market develops and grows, the Internet advertising has emerged as a critical medium of advertisement and become important in a modern society. In addition, the Internet advertising is more fascinating and attractive than other media in terms of diversity and absorption. In the Internet banner advertising, for example, various expression methods which attract attention from users have been more than just visual advertisement, arousing curiosity and interest. Especially, humorous expressions in the Internet banner advertising have brought a new paradigm to advertising market. Therefore, this paper has investigated the patterns of humorous expressions in banner advertising and analyzed the related case studies to make a contribution to the effective production of the Internet banner advertising, which induces user awareness and selection. For this, it has been attempted to analyze humorous patterns and involvement that are found in humorous banner advertisings such as CIA Athletica, Panadol, Toy & Stok, Adidas and Lipton among the banners which have relatively high preference in Banner blogs.

Relationships among Sense of Humor, Creativity, Creativity in Scientific Humor, and Perceptions of Educational Benefits for Making Scientific Humor of Elementary Students (초등학생의 유머 감각과 창의성, 과학 유머 창의성, 과학 유머 만들기의 교육적 효과에 대한 인식의 관계)

  • This study investigated the relationships among 'sense of humor', 'creativity', 'creativity in scientific humor', and 'perceptions of educational benefits for making scientific humor' of elementary students. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

The Relationships among Integrative Creativity, Creativity in Scientific Humor, and Perceptions of Educational Benefits for Making Scientific Humor of Elementary Students (초등학생의 통합 창의성, 과학 유머 창의성, 과학 유머 만들기의 교육적 효과에 대한 인식의 관계)

  • This study investigated the relationships among 'integrative creativity', 'creativity in scientific humor', and 'perceptions of educational benefits for making scientific humor' of elementary students. To do this, five graders (n=42) at an elementary school and five graders (n=38) at a gifted science education institutes in Seoul were selected. Tests for 'integrative creativity', 'creativity in scientific humor', and 'perceptions of educational benefits for making scientific humor' were then administered. Analysis of the results revealed that the scores for some subcategories of 'creativity in scientific humor' were positively correlated with those for 'integrative creativity', especially for 'creative motivation (e.g., curiosity and playfulness)' and 'creative potency (e.g., knowledge, imagination, sensitivity, flexibility, and fluency)' more than 'creative attitude'. The subcategories of 'integrated creativity' that were significantly related to 'creativity in scientific humor' were somewhat different according to the subcategories of 'creativity in scientific humor'. The scores for all subcategories of 'perception of educational benefits for making scientific humor' were not significantly correlated with those for almost all subcategories of 'integrative creativity' and 'creativity in scientific humor'. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.
