Performance of Broadcasting Contents by Platforms (방송 플랫폼별 콘텐츠 유통 성과)

  • This study investigated the attributes of the popular programs by various broadcasting related platforms(on-air, VOD, SNS) and the relationship between the outcomes of these platforms in order to get the implications of broadcasting contents distribution strategy in multi-platform era. First, the study found that drama programs of territorial broadcasting showed the most high performance in on-air platform while comedy entertainment programs got the outstanding achievement in VOD platform. Second, although it had the low ratings in on-air platform, the program could be highly probable to get a great deal of VOD hits if it had attracted the younger audience. Knowledge programs showed the similar outcome between on-air and VOD platforms. Third, the study found that the factor which had a significant influence on VOD performance was the amount of buzz in SNS. These results suggest that broadcasting content distribution strategy in multi-platform era needs the understanding of the segmented target audiences of content and the analysis of trait of each platform.

Effect of the VOD Holdback Strategy Change on IPTV and Cable TV VOD Usage (VOD 홀드백 정책 변화가 IPTV와 케이블TV VOD 이용에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examines the effect of changes in the content distribution strategy on VOD usage by comparing the VOD usage pattern following the changes in the IPTV and Digital Cable SVOD holdback policy. The result of this study shows that after changing the SVOD holdback from one week to three weeks, the VOD usage decreased up to 50 percent while paid VOD revenue increased as a result of the rise in PPM. The time series analysis shows statistical decrease in the number of SVOD usage, SVOD usage per user, and PPV revenue per user while VOD revenue per user increased significantly. Moreover, SVOD usage within the drama genres such as mini-series, weekend series, weekend special series, and sitcom decreased significantly. This research provides a case study on the effect of the broadcaster's content distribution policy on the VOD user behavior thus proposing broadcasters and platform operators the ways of establishing distribution strategy as well as invigorating the VOD usage.

  • This study focused on the Korean-wave content consumed in the global market and analyzed success/failure factors of services through business model analysis. It aims to offer an effective new media content platform model. ViKi, Drama Fever, Maaduu.com which are representative global OTT were researched on management strategy by case analysis. The success of the global OTT platform is organized into three factors, target customer coverage, revenue model and community activation. Clear and wide coverage of target customer is important to determine the value of the service. Also, revenue model based on the pay service and community for Korean-wave fandom are essential to make good performance in new media platform business.

A Study on Creation of Fair Transaction Environment between Platform Operator and Contents Provider in Broadcasting Industry (방송 산업 내 플랫폼사업자와 콘텐츠사업자 간 공정거래환경 조성 연구)

  • In a broadcasting market environment that has a close interdependence between platform operators and content operators, problems such as conflicts over program usage fees, and home shopping transmission fees are intensifying. This study attempted to analyze the environment of the domestic broadcasting market and present implications, analyze the cause of user fee conflict between the platform and PP, and propose detailed alternatives to resolve user fee conflict disputes. The results of environmental analysis on the domestic broadcasting market are as follows. First, the growth engine of the broadcasting industry has changed to direct resources such as service usage fees and content fees, and commerce is increasing. Second, as hegemony in the domestic broadcasting market changes from terrestrial to paid broadcasting and OTT, monopolies in the entire broadcasting area are being dismantled by voluntary entry. Third, the need to overhaul the existing regulatory system is increasing due to the dismantling and reorganization of the existing broadcasting market. On the other hand, this study proposed a strategy to diversify the profit structure of PP, supply program after pre-contracting, and strengthen CPS bargaining power in order to resolve disputes between paid broadcasting platforms and PP sharply. In particular, as strategies to strengthen CPS bargaining power of small and medium-sized SOs, it proposed to jointly improve CPS-related systems through IPTV and individual SOs, to redefine fees for programs and to voluntarily use programs.

A Study on Platform Strategies of Korean First Mobile Instant Messenger KakaoTalk (주식회사 카카오의 플랫폼 전략에 대한 연구)

  • KakaoTalk, a Korean mobile instant messenger service launched by KAKAO Inc., has grown remarkably popular in a short period of time, with its number of subscribers exceeding 100 million as of July 2013. Today, KakaoTalk is an everyday communication tool among most Korean mobile users. Although KAKAO has been the subject of many business and consumer studies, the KakaoTalk platform strategy has not been studied thoroughly. In this study, we analyze its platform strategy through the lens of several widely utilized frameworks such as Platform Leadership (Gawer & Cusumano 2002, 2008), Winner-take-all dynamics (Eisenmann et al. 2006), and Open Service Innovation (Chesbrough 2011). Our results show that Eisenmann et al (2006)'s "Winner-Take-All" platform best explains how KakaoTalk dominated its rivals, Mypeople by Daum Communications and Line by Naver Corporation. In surpassing its rivals, KAKAO delivered a solution to the 'essential problem' that mobile social communication should be upgraded from mobile companies' paid "Short Message Service" (SMS). By doing so, KakaoTalk fulfilled the first requirement of Gawer & Cusumano (2008)'s "Coring" strategy, which explains how a new platform is created. KakaoTalk also satisfied the second requirement of "Coring" by providing economic incentives for KakaoTalk members to interact through its Games and Items store. Actively accepting its customers' ideas and upgrading its services, KAKAO reinforced its platform leadership to its customers and put Chesbrough (2011)'s "Outside In - Open Service" innovation strategy into practice.

  • 본 논문은 56Kbps 모뎀을 이용하는 전화망 가입자나 터미널 어댑터를 사용하는 ISDN 가입자가 인터넷 정합장치를 이용하여 사용자 ID없이 개방제로 인터넷에 접속하여 서비스를 받고, 유료 정보제공자에 대한 대체인증 기능 및 과금회수대행 기능을 제공하는 인터넷 정합시스템(WNAS: Web Network Access System)의 설계 및 구현에 관한 내용이다. 본 논문에서는 웹 기반의 인터넷 정합장치에 최대 120/60가입자가 동시에 파일 받기/보내기를 했을 경우 시스템의 전송속도를 분석하였다.

  • 미디어 기술의 발전으로 스마트미디어의 대표적인 OTT서비스와 일인방송 규모가 급격히 확대되고 있다. 이로써 Z세대나 밀레니얼세대들은 더 이상 레가시미디어에 종속되지 않고 동기화, 개인화, 직관화, 실감화가 특성인 스마트미디어를 일상생활에서 향유하고 있다. 따라서 미디어 소비 행태도 급격히 변화하여 레가시 미디어인 지상파방송, 유료방송은 광고 매출, 콘텐츠 소비 등에서 디지털 인터넷 플랫폼과 경쟁에 어려움을 겪으며 성장에 어려움을 겪고 있다. 본 논문에서는 OTT와 일인방송이 중심이 되는 스마트미디어에서의 미디어 소비 행태의 변화를 알아보고 이에 따른 스마트미디어의 성장과 교육환경과의 상관성에 대해 고찰하고자 한다.

  • Expand the market because the size of the huge funds administered by the conversion of over-the-air digital TV broadcasts in the current situation is likely to be reduced due to the influence of the media over-the-air broadcasts new paid media, digital cable TV and IPTV new mobile TV as a new growth engineis required. Broadcasting system to increase the supply and demand of the module from the ATSC-M/H DMB business existing in the domestic over-the-air broadcasters, has seen significant achievements in sleep technology with the introduction is expected. ATSC-M/H does not require a separate frequency allocation for mobile services does not interfere with the existing ATSC system simulcast, which can be performed on Android mobile handsets American-style mobile broadcast reception module to develop should. This paper is to design the software modules in the broadcasting module embedded systems that are applied on the Android platform, broadcasting from mobile handsets to see.

Research Analysis on User's Acceptability of Digital Contents Distribution among Individuals (개인 간 저작물 유통을 위한 사용자의 수용성 조사 분석)

  • There have been gradually established paid using system on contents, such as sound source, webtoon etc, with which licences are systematically managed. However, rampant free sites still mostly relying on advertising revenue make difficulties on lots of contents developers and obstruct the protection of their resonable right. In this situation, we need systematic measures to protect copyright of authors and to maximize use of contents of users. Therefore, it is important to handle the convenience of digital contents distribution and the diversity of contents license(differentiating permission rate according to user's purpose, scope, service period etc), based on the need of contents users. This paper implies to guideline to install contents distribution platform of individuals and to apprehend the need and acceptability of users in order to activate digital contents transaction on individuals.

An Exploratory Study of Psychological Characteristics of Metaverse Users (메타버스 이용자의 심리 특성 탐색 연구)

  • This study aims to identify the primary user group in the growing metaverse space based on the increased interest during the COVID-19 era. It also aims to explore the predictive factors for metaverse adoption. To predict online activities, the study examined user purposes, motivations, and relevant demographic factors as predictive variables through model analysis. The data from the Korean Media Panel Survey were used, and a two-stage analysis with the Heckman two-stage sample selection model was conducted to predict metaverse users. The analysis revealed that the key factors influencing metaverse adoption were offline activities, openness, OTT usage, and purchasing of paid content. Moreover, in the second stage model, openness, gender, and paid content purchases were identified as significant variables for increasing metaverse usage time. These results indicate that understanding metaverse users is essential in the context of the rising interest in online activities during the COVID-19 era and can provide valuable insights for metaverse platform-related companies and developers.
