A Study on Scalability of Profiling Method Based on Hardware Performance Counter for Optimal Execution of Supercomputer (슈퍼컴퓨터 최적 실행 지원을 위한 하드웨어 성능 카운터 기반 프로파일링 기법의 확장성 연구)

  • Supercomputer that shares limited resources to multiple users needs a way to optimize the execution of application. For this, it is useful for system administrators to get prior information and hint about the applications to be executed. In most high-performance computing system operations, system administrators strive to increase system productivity by receiving information about execution duration and resource requirements from users when executing tasks. They are also using profiling techniques that generates the necessary information using statistics such as system usage to increase system utilization. In a previous study, we have proposed a scheduling optimization technique by developing a hardware performance counter-based profiling technique that enables characterization of applications without further understanding of the source code. In this paper, we constructed a profiling testbed cluster to support optimal execution of the supercomputer and experimented with the scalability of the profiling method to analyze application characteristics in the built cluster environment. Also, we experimented that the profiling method can be utilized in actual scheduling optimization with scalability even if the application class is reduced or the number of nodes for profiling is minimized. Even though the number of nodes used for profiling was reduced to 1/4, the execution time of the application increased by 1.08% compared to profiling using all nodes, and the scheduling optimization performance improved by up to 37% compared to sequential execution. In addition, profiling by reducing the size of the problem resulted in a quarter of the cost of collecting profiling data and a performance improvement of up to 35%.

The Effects of Leadership Education Program on Leadership Skills of the Primary Gifted Students (초등 영재 리더십 교육 프로그램이 리더십 기술 향상에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to provide and analyze the fundamental data on leadership skills and to analyze leadership skills among giftd elementary students according to grade, subject and gender. The main research questions in order to achieve the purpose of research are as follow. First, are there any differences of gifted elementary students' leadership skills in gifted groups? Second, do leadership program have an effect on improvement of gifted elementary students' leadership skills? The subjects for this study were 488 gifted elementary in 4th-6th grade in Busan. The students in the experiential group went thought 16 session do leadership program. After that, they had pre-tests and post-tests. the devices used to verify the effectiveness of the program were leadership skill scales. For this research analysis, MANOVA was used to investigate the first research questions and MANCOVA was used to investigate the second research question. Results from this study are as follows. Firstly, students in higher grades received fewer leadership skills points. This fact suggests that the leadership programs from the fourth grade should be implemented in 5th and 6th grade gifted education as well. Secondly, in the analysis of the results from gifted mathematics and gifted science, little significant statistical difference was shown. Thirdly, the analysis of leadership skills according to gender showed statistical significance. Finally, the study showed that the leadership education program had a positive effect. So the gifted 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students improve their leadership skills points by the end of the 16 week programs. Consequently, it is suggested that leadership education program on gifted elementary education was significant to improvement of leadership skills.

An Analytic Study of Science Gifted/Talented Education Program of U.S.A. by ERIC Search (ERIC 검색을 통한 미국의 과학영재교육 프로그램 분석)

  • In this study, literatures concerning the scientifically gifted/talented were identified through exploration of ERIC(Education Research Information Center) and then categorized. Existing educational programs for the scientifically gifted/talented were analyzed to aid in development and progress of education program of the scientifically gifted/talented. The followings are the results of this study 1. Exploration of ERIC from 1981 to 1997 showed 150 documents related to the scientifically gifted/talented and of those found there were 63 scientifically gifted/talented education program documents which accounts for 42.0%. 2. 42.0% of documents related to the scientifically gifted/talented and 65.1% of education program for the scientifically gifted/talented were in the publication type of journal articles. 3. 60.0% of documents related to the scientifically gifted/talented and 68.3% of education program for the scientifically gifted/talented were in the type of paper of reports. 4. 71.4% of education programs for the gifted/talented was centered around scientifically gifted/talented students in middle or high school. 5. 52.4% of education programs for the scientifically gifted/talented was being carried out as an supplementary enrichment education program such as summer programs or short term projects. Education programs for the scientifically gifted/talented carried out as a regular class accounted for 38.1%. 6. Systems like Mentorship System and Internship System is being well carried out due to good interrelationships between universities and institutions. There were many programs encouraging majors and careers in science related fields. 7. Individualized education, which is effective in teaching the scientifically gifted/talented whose abilities, interests, and attitudes differ, is being well carried out.

  • This paper is concerned with development of a communication module of POFS(Parallel Operating File System), which is the parallel file system to be operated on SPAX computer. SPAX is multiprocessor computer with clustering SMP architecture and being developed by ETRI. The operating system for SPAX is MISIX based on the Chorus microkernel. POFS has client/server architecture basically so that it is important to design a communication module. The communication module is so easily affected by network environment that bad design is the major reason that decreases the portability and performance of the parallel file system. This paper describes the structure and performance of the communication of the POFS. the theme is issued in the course of designing and developing POFS. The communication module of POFS was designed to support the portability and the architecture of parallel file system.

Exploration of Soie Employer-Supported Child-Care Center Teacher's Difficulties and Overcoming Effort in the Attitude of Parents (소이 직장 어린이집 교사가 인식하는 부모 태도에 대한 어려움과 극복 노력에 관한 탐색)

  • In order to understand the difficulties and overcoming effort in teachers of Employer-Supported Child-Care Center in the attitude of parents, this study explored seven teachers of Soie Child-Care Center that operated for 18 hours a day, 365 days a year. Seven teachers were interviewed and the data were analyzed utilizing content analysis. The results of the study came out that Teachers experience difficulties such as parents' non-regulations, excessive use, excessive individual demands, excessive sensitivity in case of safety accidents, the connection of parental rank to the classroom, excessive service demands. In order to overcome this problem, participants used methods such as identifying sensitive parts of parents, seeking advice, objectifying situations, and enhancing professionalism. This will be basic data for the expanding operation of Employer-Supported Child-Care Center and the development of programs to support teachers.

Characteristics and Improvement of Engineering Education Program for Highschool Students in University (대학내 고등학교 학생들을 위한 공학교실 프로그램 운영상의 특성과 개선방안)

  • Currently the universities in Korea have faced a critical situation for university entrants deficiency, especially in the fields of science and engineering. It will be act as a big crisis for the future national competences in science and technology. Therefore Kongju National University have been providing the engineering education program for highschool students during the summer vacation since 2001 as giving a chance of engineering laboratory experiences. During last 4 years, we have investigated the highschool students attended in engineering education program by questioning and contacting. This study is performed to improve the program by investigating their activities and thinking about engineering education. As results of the study, this manuscripts will summarized the characteristics of engineering education program and improvement schemes for the future application.

인터넷 기반의 분산된 병렬 처리를 지원하기 위한 분산 처리 지원 도구의 보안 기능과 운영 방안

  • 분산된 컴퓨팅 환경은 프로세서의 개수를 적응적으로 활용하는 병렬 처리 환경으로 활용할 수 있다. 병렬 처리예 의한 수행 시간 단축 효과에 가장 많은 영향을 주는 것은 활용되는 프로세서의 개수와 병렬 처리 요소 상호 간의 통신 오버헤드이다. 분산된 컴퓨팅 환경으로 구성한 병렬 처리는 통신 오버헤드에 의한 단점과 프로세서의 개수를 자유롭게 활용할 수 있다는 장점이 상반되는 특성을 가지며 레이트레이싱에 의한 렌더링과 같이 계산량이 많고 병렬 처리 요소 상호 간의 통신량이 적은 응용 분야에 효과적이다. 분산된 컴퓨팅 환경을 병렬 처리에 활용하기 위하여 기존의 분산 처리 모델을 적웅용면 통신 오버헤드 이외에 부수적인 오버헤드(프로그래밍 및 확용 절차)로 인하여 실효성을 발휘하기 어렵다. 단일 컴퓨팅 환경을 위한 절차와 서비스를 그대로 적용하여 분산된 컴퓨팅 환경을 구성하는 여러 대의 컴퓨터를 통합하여 활용하는 방안은 이와 같은 부수적인 오버헤드를 해결할 수 있으며 본 연구팀에서 이미 발표한 TORB(Transparent Object Request Broker)는 프로그래밍 투명성의 제공을 통하여 분산된 컴퓨팅 환경을 활용하기 위한 프로그램을 단일 컴퓨팅 환경을 위한 프로그래밍 기법을 적응하여 작성할 수 있도록 지원한다. 지속적인 연구를 통하여 프로그래밍 투명성의 범위를 확장함과 동시에 활용 절차의 투명성을 지원하는 방안을 추가하였고 새로운 분산 처리 모델을 설계하여 이러한 절차와 서비스를 체계적으로 정립하였다. 인터넷에 연결된 컴퓨터는 적절한 수준의 컴퓨팅 능력을 갖추고 있고 상호 간의 정보 교환을 할 수 있는 상태이므로 "TORB"와 같이 잘 정의된 패러다임으로 이들을 통합하여 운영하면 병렬 처리에 참여하는 프로세서의 개수를 자유롭게 활용하여 수행시간 감소 효과(병렬 처리에 의한)를 극대화할 수 있다. 그러나 인터넷을 기반으로 하는 분산된 병렬 처리를 지원하기 위해서는 "TORB"가 이미 제공하는 투명성 외에 불특정한 타인이 작성한 프로그램 코드가 "TORB"를 통하여 자신의 컴퓨터에서 실행되어도 악의적인 동작을 수행하지 못하게 하는 보안 기능과 인터넷에 연결된 방대한 수의 컴퓨터를 "TORB"에 의해 구성되는 분산된 컴퓨팅 환경에 참여시키는 시나리오가 필요하다.

A Study on the Archival Graduate Programs in the Schools of Library and Information Science in English-Speaking Canada (캐나다의 기록학 대학원 교육프로그램에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify useful factors for the curriculum development of the archival program in Korea by analyzing archival graduate programs of the Schools of Library and Information Science in English-speaking Canada. Name and history of the schools, degrees, credits, required and elective courses, practice, research, md faculty of archival prgrams, and the official guidelines of ACA and SAA are compared by analyzing web sites and literature review. It is found that Canadian LIS schools offer independent archival programs with a separate MAS degree or a specialization. University of British Columbia, the first LIS school that has a separate MAS degree program, provides a systematically developed curriculum. It also reveals that Canadian archival programs are based on their own principle·md SAA guidelines because ACA guidelines are out of date. Based upon the analysis of the archival programs in Canada, the current situations of the archival graduate programs in Korea are compared and several suggestions ale made f3r the direction of successful archival education in Korea in the end.

  • The purpose of this study is the investigation and evaluation of participants' awareness in the Book debate club which is managed by library of C University in Gwangju. For this purpose, the difference of the impact of participation in accordance to the participation duration and attitude, the demographic property of participants, and the problem of Book debate club are investigated. The collection of data is achieved by questionnaires and interviews. In the analyzed result, the period and manner of the participation are very important factors. Also, the activation plan is proposed on the basis of the analyzed result of problems in reading debate club to contribute to the management of future University library's reading promotion program.

Considering Information Security Professionals' Career to Analyze Knowledge and Skills Requirements (정보보호 전문인력의 경력에 따른 지식 및 기술 수요 특성)

  • As the awareness on the information security has been well developed, there have been various studies on effective training and management of the information security workforce. But, one of the most important things for the effective training is to develop education programs based on knowledge and skills requirements for information security professionals. This study aims to analyze the required and possessed levels of knowledge and skills for information security professionals' career. For this study, we selected 71 critical knowledge and skills for information security professionals by literature review and Delphi method, and we conducted a survey of information security knowledge and skills requirements for information security professionals to perform their jobs. As a result, we analyzed the current status of the information security professionals' knowledge and skills level and suggested some guidelines for educating information security professionals by their job career.
