  • The SO4 in the jarosite structure can be substituted by other oxyanions, and therefore, the transition of jarosite to goethite plays a very important role in controlling the behavior of oxyanions. In this study, the phase change according to the species of the oxyanion in jarosite and the related behavior of the oxyanion was studied by mineralogical and geochemical methods when jarosite, which is coprecipitated with various oxynions, undergoes a phase change by a reductive dissolution. Jarosite substituted by five oxyanions by 5 mol% was used in this study. The mineral phase change induced by reductive dissolution using ammonium oxalate was investigated, and the order of phase transition rate of jarosite to goethite was MoO4-jarosite ≥ SeO4-jarosite ≥ CrO4-jarosite > pure jarosite > SeO3-jarosite > AsO4-jarosite, showing that the transition rates vary depending on the substituted oxyanion. The resultant concentration of the leached Fe was slightly different depending on the type of oxyanion and time but did not show a noticeable difference. The concentration of each oxyanion leached according to the change of the mineral phase showed that the order of concentration of oxyanions was Mo > Se(SeO3) > As > Se(SeO4) > Cr in general, and showed a slight increase with time. This trend was related to the species of oxyanions rather than mineral phase change. The results of this study showed that the phase transition of jarosite to goethite was affected by the species of oxyanions, but this tendency did not affect the concentrations leached oxyanions.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of soaking time on physicochemical properties of waxy rice, waxy rice flour and waxy rice starch. Waxy rice (WR), waxy rice flour (WRF), waxy rice starch (WRS) were soaked at $18^{\circ}C$ for 14 days and dried at $40^{\circ}C$. Dried samples were grounded and sieved using 180 mesh. Physicochemical properties of the three samples, such as swelling power, solubility, moisture sorption isotherms and pasting properties using rapid visco analyzer (RVA) and crystal pattern using X-ray diffractometer were determined. In all samples, soaking time greatly influenced moisture sorption isotherms but no typical pattern was shown. Swelling power was not greatly changed by soaking time in the three samples. Solubility increased with increasing soaking time in all three samples, indicating that some soluble particles were exuded during soaking. In RVA pasting properties, WR and WRF showed a similar pattern, while WRS showed different pasting properties, suggesting that rice protein plays a significant role in pasting properties. X-ray diffraction patterns of all three samples showed typical A-type crystal pattern suggesting that soaking did not affect crystalline region of samples.

  • We investigated the effects of Alaska pollack addition on the quality of Kimchi during 20 days of fermentation at 10C. Alaska pollack was added to salted cabbage at concentrations of 0%, 6%, 12%, or 18% (all w/w). The quality characteristics determined were pH, acidity, salinity, reducing sugar content, color, free amino acid level, and lactic acid bacterial counts, at 4 d intervals over 20 d, during progressive fermentation at constant temperature (10C). Changes in pH, acidity, and reducing sugar content during fermentation were increased when Alaska pollack was added, whereas salinity decreased. Total lactic acid bacterial counts achieved maximum levels on day 8 for Kimchi with 18% (w/w) Alaska pollack, and the other Kimchi samples attained their highest values on day 12. In terms of color, the L, a, and b values of Kimchi rose with addition of Alaska pollack. The free amino acid content of Kimchi increased as the level of added Alaska pollack rose but gradually fell as fermentation progressed. Upon sensory evaluation, Kimchi with 6% (w/w) Alaska pollack scored highest in terms of appearance, texture, taste, and overall acceptance. In conclusion, our results indicate that Alaska pollack has a positive effect on the quality of Kimchi, increasing the content of free amino acids.

  • A low yielding paddy soil was water logged at $30{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ with soluble starch as a easily decomposable organic matter for 3 weeks in the laboratory. The relation of pH and Eh changes and soluble iron, manganese and silica was investigated. The experimental results obtained were summarized as follows; 1. When organic matter was applied, reduction of the soil was severer, that is, Eh value was lower by 200 mv. for a week in the beginning of submergence. 2. pH of the untreated soil was dropped a little just after submergence, and then gradually increased to 60. When treated, pH was increased due to abrupt drop of Eh in the beginning but decreased to 4.5 after a week, and became constant at this pH value. 3. Slight increase in soluble iron, manganese and silica was observed in the untreated soil whereas soluble iron, manganese and silica in the treated soil were increased about 20, 10, and 3 times, respectively. 4. When soluble starch was treated, pH and soluble silica or manganese was highly correlated[($H^+$) and Mn ${\gamma}=0.734^{**}$, ($H^+$) and $SiO_2$ ${\gamma}=0.923^{**}$] and below pH 5.0, release of these element was rapidly increased.

  • This study aims to determine the association structure of the behavioral relationship variables, such as trust, commitment, cooperation, communication and coercive power, in the relationship between the buyers and suppliers of industrial parts. It also investigates the impact of the use of IT technologies on the relationships quality. Data was collected from 216 part suppliers of machinery, electronics and automobiles located in Incheon. Data supported all of the proposed hypotheses. First, it was confirmed that parts suppliers' trust in buyers leads to the commitment into relationships with buyers. Second, cooperation and communication showed a positive influence on parts suppliers' trust in buyers, and coercive power gave a negative influence on trust. Third, the use of IT technologies like Internet and E-Mail between parts suppliers and buyers was verified to have generally a positive influence on the quality of relationships. At the same time, cooperation and communication were confirmed to have a positive influence on each other, and cooperation and coercive power as well as communication and coercive power were confirmed to have negative influence on each other. This study is a pioneering attempt to examine the relationships between suppliers and buyers of industrial parts, and the influence IT technologies on the relationship quality. Also, the findings will be practically much helpful to find how to reinforce the relationships between parts suppliers and buyers.

  • This study was conducted on the sediment remediation using micro-bubble to remove fine particles. For this study, characteristics of contamination and release in sediment were analyzed. And then, the characteristics of bubbles on removal efficiency was investigated at various operation conditions. In particle size distribution of the sediment used for the study, the proportion of clay and silt (<0.075 mm) was about 7.7%, sand (0.075~4.75 mm) was about 67.8%, and gravel (${\geq}4.75$) was 24.5%. Total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) of the sediment were 2,790~3,260, 261~311 mg/kg respectively. Ignition loss and water content were 4.1~9.6, 32.9~53.2% respectively. In analysis of removal efficiency according to operation conditions of micro-bubble, it was the highest when operation condition is pressure 6 atm, pressurized water ratio 30%, and coagulant dosage 15 ppm. At the time, the sediment's removal efficiency was 19.9%. Accordingly removal efficiency of TN and TP were 21.4, 22.6% respectively. Finally a research was found that fine particles in sediment were almost removed by micro-bubble, which led to decrease nutrients' release at about 20.1~64.3% in comparison to sediment including lots of fine particles.

  • Analysis method was presented for the simultaneous determination of nine bisphenol A related compounds such as bisphenol A (BPA), phenol, p-tert-butylphenol, bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (BADGE), $BADGE{\cdot}2H_2O$, $BADGE{\cdot}2HCl$, bisphenol F diglycidyl ether (BFDGE), $BFDGE{\cdot}2H_2O$ and $BFDGE{\cdot}2HCl$ migrated from inner coatings of metal food cans by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with fluorescence detection. The method was validated by examining the linearity of calibration curve, the limit of detection (LOD), the limit of quantification (LOQ), recovery and uncertainty. The migration tests of nine BPA related compounds were carried out with four food simulants; deionized water (DW), 4% acetic acid, 50% ethanol and n-heptane. There was not any compound detected in DW, 4% acetic acid and 50% ethanol at $60^{\circ}C$ for 30 min and n-heptane at $25^{\circ}C$ for 60 min. BPA and phenol were migrated into 4% acetic acid and 50% ethanol at $95^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. The concentrations were ranged from 0 to $10.77{\mu}g/L$ of BPA and from 0 to $2.35{\mu}g/L$ of phenol. Canned foodstuffs mostly have long-term shelf life. We investigated migration of nine BPA related compounds according to the variation in storage periods (0~90 days) and temperatures (4, 25 and $60^{\circ}C$). All compounds were not founded during 90 days at $4^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$, respectively. However BPA and $BADGE{\cdot}2H_2O$ were founded in DW and 4% acetic acid at $60^{\circ}C$. The migration levels of BPA and $BADGE{\cdot}2H_2O$ were close to the value of LOQ, respectively and did not change significantly as storage period. It was founded from results that the migration of BPA related compounds from metal food cans was controlled to a safe level.

  • In order to increase the use of rice, ginseng Garaedduks and Topokki were made and the physicochemical and sensory properties were investigated. Topokki and Garaedduks were added with 0, 1, 3 and 5% ginseng powder and stored at $20^{\circ}C$ for 48 hours. The moisture contents were not different to the increasing amount of ginseng powder and increasing storage time for 48 hours. The moisture content of Garaedduks for control and 5% added ginseng powder were 48.08% and 49.62%, respectively. The L value in color of uncooked ginseng Garaedduk decreased according to the added amount of ginseng powder, and the b value in color increased significantly according to the added amount of ginseng powder and during 48 hours storage at $20^{\circ}C$. Textural analysis, measured using a texture analyzer, of Garaedduk revealed that hardness, cohesiveness, chewiness decreased significantly and adhesiveness increased according to the added amount of ginseng powder. In sensory evaluation, 5% ginseng Garaedduk (uncooked, cooked) scored higher in overall acceptability than those of the other samples. In cooking properties, water absorption and solid contents increased according to the added amount of ginseng powder. Therefore, Garaedduk containing 5% ginseng powder was the most preferable. These results implied that the degree of retrogradation of ginseng Garaedduk might be low due to its high dietary fiber content.

  • This study compared the physicochemical characteristics of yellow pigments in domestic and imported yellow croakers during distribution and storage. The croaker is generally adulterated by mixed color product of red and yellow pigment. This study found that the yellow pigment was stable during pH and temperature changes, but the red pigment was less stable than the yellow pigment. As for the light effect on the yellow pigment and the red pigment, there was no change in the remaining rate of the pigment stored in a dark place. The moisture content decreased according to the storage period, and the width of changes was large in the order of croaker stored at $5^{\circ}C$, croaker stored at $15^{\circ}C$ and dried croakers. The yellowness value of the abdomen of the adulterated white croaker did not show any large difference at the initial stage and for a storage period of 10 days at $5^{\circ}C$. However, the yellow croakers showed a decreasing trend according to the storage period at $15^{\circ}C$. The croaker can be generally adulterated by a mixed color of red and yellow pigment. For the texture change in accordance with the storage condition of the croakers, both the yellow and white croakers showed a gradually increasing trend of hardness when stored at $5^{\circ}C$ and $15^{\circ}C$.

  • To investigate the applicability of montmorillonite to capping material for the remediation of contaminated marine sediment, adsorption characteristics of $PO{_4}{^{3-}}$ onto montmorillonite were studied in a batch system with respect to changes in contact time, initial concentration, pH, adsorbent dose amount, competing anions, adsorbent mixture, and seawater. Sorption equilibrium reached in 1 h at 50 mg/L but 3 h was required to reach sorption equilibrium at 300 mg/L. Freundlich model was more suitable to describe equilibrium sorption data than Langmuir model. The $PO{_4}{^{3-}}$ adsorption decreased as pH increased, due to the $PO{_4}{^{3-}}$ competition for favorable adsorption site with OH- at higher pH. The presence of anions such as nitrate, sulfate, and bicarbonate had no significant effect on the $PO{_4}{^{3-}}$ adsorption onto the montmorillonite. The use of the montmorillonite alone was more effective for the removal of the $PO{_4}{^{3-}}$ than mixing the montmorillonite with red mud and steel slag. The $PO{_4}{^{3-}}$ adsorption capacity of the montmorillonite was higher in seawater than deionized water, resulting from the presence of calcium ion in seawater. The water tank elution experiments showed that montmorillonite capping blocked well the elution of $PO{_4}{^{3-}}$, which was not measured up to 14 days. It was concluded that the montmirillonite has a potential capping material for the removal of the $PO{_4}{^{3-}}$ from the aqueous solutions.
