Representation of Stone Meaning in Computer Go (바둑착점의 의미표현)

  • 컴퓨터 바둑에 대한 기존연구에서는 형세를 판단하거나 행마를 하기 위해 게임이론에 입각한 인공지능적 알고리즘을 주로 사용하였다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 틀에서 벗어나 각 착점의 의미를 언어학적으로 파악하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 바둑 용어를 의미에 따라 구분하여 정리하였고 분류된 용어에 대하여 세분화된 의미특성을 부여하였다. 정리한 용어를 활용하여 각 착점이 반상에서 가지는 역학관계를 표현하고 그 의미를 해석할 수 있게 하였다. 이를 토대로 각 착점의 가치를 수치화할 수도 있게 되었다. 이러한 분석과 분류는 바둑 한판의 내용을 이야기로 보는데 있어서 그 기초를 제공한다.

Sense Distinction of Adjectival Medical Terms through Lexico-semantic Criteria and Semantic Classification of Arguments (어휘의미론적 기준 및 논항의 의미 범주 분류를 통한 형용사 의학 용어의 의미 구분)

  • In Korean terminologies, adjectival terms are rare, and the meaning and function associated with adjectives in Indo-European languages are often realized instead in noun form. However, the rarer adjectival terms we, the more they are used in restrictive and repetitive ways in specialized domains. Thus, it is important to distinguish the different senses of these terms. In this work, focusing on semantic modeling in terminology, we distinguish the different senses of adjectival medical terms by applying lexico-semantic criteria (L'Homme, 2004a) and by classifying the semantic category of the arguments of the adjective (Bae and others, 2002). The result not only contributes to enriching medical terminology, but also empirically demonstrates a method for distinguishing the different senses of adjectival medical terms. In this work, we obtained an average of 1.854 senses for each term. We used the KAIST corpus, composed of medical texts (1,500,000 eojeols), and a group of texts on various subjects (40,000,000 eojeols)

  • In this article the conceptual meaning of expression, equation and identity used in Korean mathematics textbooks and American mathematics textbooks is compared and discussed. For this purpose definitions and examples in several mathematics textbooks which are used in Korean elementary school, the 1st grade of middle school and American middle school are investigated. It is founded out that at first there are some parts that give rise to misunderstanding and then there are differences between the Korean terminologies and their corresponding English counterparts. The definitions of expression, equation and identity are advised to examine in the view of middle mathematics curriculum.

  • Although use of the term 'customer' has been and is being increased in the area of Library and Information Science, its concept is not clearly differentiated from the replaced term 'user'. Moreover, there has been a tendency that librarians would have objection against using the term customer. Based on this situation, the concept of customer is examined by comparing with related terms, and its impact on library management is discussed. Libraries have adapted marketing viewpoint by applying the concept of customer to themselves, and it requires total change in the library management.

Confusion in the Meaning of Induction, Deduction, Hypothetical Deductive Method, and Abduction in Science Instruction Textbooks (과학교육론 교재에서 나타나는 귀납, 연역, 가설연역, 귀추의 의미 혼선)

  • There have been great concerns on induction, deduction, abduction, and hypothetical deductive method as scientific method and logic behind the method. However, as seen from the similar logic structure of abduction and hypothetical deductive method logic, distinction of those four terms could be unclear. This study investigates statements of science instruction textbooks concerning those terms to analyze their meaning as scientific method or in the context of inquiry. For this purpose, related statements are extracted from seven textbooks to investigate the definitions and examples of those terms and relation among these terms by focusing on coherence of usage of the terms and the possibility of clear distinction among the terms. We find that those terms do not have coherent meanings in the textbooks and many statements make it hard to distinguish the meanings of the terms. Finally the origin of the confusion and educational implication is discussed.

  • 재난관리현장 및 관련 학문 분야에서는 사건(incident), 사고(accident), 위험(risk), 위기(crisis), 재해(disaster), 재난(disaster)과 같은 유사성이 있는 전문용어들이 혼용되어 사용되고 있다. 전문용어의 경우 관련 학과 학생 및 종사자들은 그 내용과 의미를 정확하게 이해하고 있어야 하며, 이와 관련한 전문용어의 정의를 명확하게 나타내는 지침이 필요하다고 말할 수 있다. 「재난 및 안전관리 기본법」제 3조에서 재난에 대한 정의는 명시하고 있지만, 재난과 재해와의 차이점을 명확하게 알 수 없으며, 위험과 위기에 대한 차이점을 또한 파악하기 어려움에 있다. 이러한 이유로 관련 학과 대학생 및 관련 업종 종사자들이 재난에 사용되는 용어를 명확하게 구분하여 설명하지 못하고, 명확하게 구분하지 아니하고 사용하는 것이 아닌가라는 판단에 이르게 되었다. 용어의 혼용은 국민들에게 재난에 관한 의식의 혼란을 유발하고, 혼란스러움으로 인한 무관심이 발생, 그 무관심에 의해 재난에 관한 의식이 저하될 수도 있다고 생각하였다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 재난 의식의 하락으로 비롯되는 대응의 부적절함을 방지하기 위해 1) 관련 학과 학생 및 종사자들을 대상으로 전문용어의 이해도 조사, 2) 관련 용어의 정의를 조사 및 분석을 수행하였다.

Performance Improvement of Information Retrieval System by means of Fuzzy Relational Product (퍼지관계곱을 이용한 정보검색시스템의 성능 개선)

  • 퍼지관계 개념을 응용한 BK-퍼지정보검색기법은 형태론에 입각하는 기존의 정보검색기법과는 달리 문서와 용어의 상대적 의미에 근거한 정보검색 기법이다. 그러나 BK-퍼지정보검색기법은 높은 시간복잡도(time complexity)의 검색 연산을 내재하고 있어 실제 대용량의 정보 검색은 사실상 불가능하다. 본 논문에서는 BK-퍼지검색정보모델의 시간복잡도를 낮추기 위해, 축소용어집합(reduced term set)을 이용한 개선된 BK-퍼지정보검색모델(A-FIRM)을 제안한다. 개선된 BK-FIRM은 시스템 처리시간과 신뢰도 간 상층점(trade-off)을 제공한다. 축소용어집합은 용어집합의 부분집합으로서 검색결과의 신뢰도와 밀접한 관계를 가진다. 동일한 크기의 축소용어집합이 주어질 때, 보다 적절한 용어들로 구성된 축소용어집합이 보다 나은 검색 신뢰도를 이끈다. 따라서 보다 적절한 축소용어집합 구성을 위한 축소용어집합 추출방법이 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 축소용어집합 추출방법을 크게 무작위 추출, 규칙에 의한 추출, 인간에 의한 직관적 추출 방법으로 구분하고 검색결과의 신뢰도 변화 형태를 분석한다.

  • This study examines the definitions and the scopes of risk, crisis, and disaster management in narrow and wide sense. Generally, the meanings and the scopes of these terms have been used in a very confused manner, and that is the main reason of the difficulty of interdisciplinary approach to disaster related study. In a practical manner, these terms needs to be defined more correctly, for the effective communications among various fields of academic and professional disciplines. This study tries to divide the meanings and the scopes of risk management, disaster management, and crisis management in narrow and wide sense, to define them in a more elaborate manner. Though these three terms can be distinguished in narrow sense, they have almost same meanings when we use them in wide sense.

Law, Theory, and Principle: Confusion in the Normative Meaning and Actual Usage (법칙, 이론, 그리고 원리: 규범적 의미와 실제사용에서의 혼란)

  • Educational Discourses on the nature of science(NOS) identify understanding of the role of scientific knowledge, especially the distinction between law and theory, as a crucial goal of instruction. However, the scientist community uses the terms such as law, theory, and principle without explicit definition so that the terms have no coherent meanings in their conventional language expression. The inconsistency between the norm and the reality could impose confusion on the teaching and learning. From the awareness of the problem, this study critically reviews the science education research papers and literatures on the philosophy of science which focus on the meaning of law, theory, or principle and the structure of scientific knowledge. From the examination of the science education researches, it is revealed that the disparity between the normative meanings of the law and theory by NOS researchers and actual usage of the terms is quite serious. From the review of the literatures of the philosophy of science, the necessity of the distintion of three categories: law, theory, and principle beyond the dichotomy between law and theory is brought up. By synthesizing the related literatures, we provide an outline of the characteristics of knowledges belonging to law, theory, and principle. Considering the conflict between the normative definition and the conventional language, it could be unnecessary to emphasize clear distinction on the terms as an instructional goal. Instead, the goal of instruction should focus on that there are three types of scientific knowledges of different functions and characteristics.
