The purpose of this study was to identify the needs and characteristics of Korean senior consumers. To this end, the factors of Maslow's seven-levels of needs hierarchy were re-established and applied to suit the actual situation in Korea. For analysis, an online survey was conducted on 440 adults (50-75 years old), who are considered active seniors living in Korea, on the factors of 7-levels of needs and demographic characteristics. The study found that the 7-levels needs of Korean senior consumers were derived in a different order from Maslow's. Other diverse theoretical and practical implications were also presented.

The increasing interest in digital leisure with virtual reality has led to the emergence of digital based urban theme park. Since there were some game type based digital theme parks, which ended up failed in Korea, we analyzed game and space factors for game based digital theme park by drawing upon Maslow's need theory and the hero's journey by Joseph Campbell. We anticipate our research for analysis of game based theme park provides important groundwork on designing various digital urban theme park.

Currently, Korea is entering an aging society, causing the issues of older adults in a wide range of fields. This study focuses on the health and safety issues of the older adults. As a theoretical background, Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory was applied, and a new theory was established in connection with the physiological needs and safety needs of the 5 stages of desire in relation to the health and safety issues of the older adults. Health issues applying to physiological needs for the older adults are examined in detail in the body, perception and psychology areas, and safety accidents occurring indoors and outdoors are examined in relation to safety needs. Naver DataLab, a big data portal, shows that the number of bugs regarding health and safety of the older adults is steadily increasing. And through Google Trends, we can understand the interest setting up related search keyword about the older adults. According to the related search keywords, social part related to health in health issues is ranked high and kewords related to accident type in safety issues is ranked high. These findings will be an important basis data for research and solution to the issues of older adults.

Healing Environment is to cure the user as a whole by considering his social, psychological aspect, beyond the functional aspect of treatment. Various design elements of healing space have been developed so far, but they were mostly described with same rank. Even though every element is significant, facilities such as nursing homes tends to run with low budget, and they can't fulfill them all at the same time. It is important to find the sequence between design elements. The purpose of this study is to reorganize the design principles of healing environment by Maslow's hierarchy of needs(Physiological needs, Safety needs, Love/Affilitation needs, Self-Esteem needs and Self-Actualization needs), and analyze elderly nursing homes and examine the framework itself by application. Research method was consist of literature review on healing space design elements and hierarchy of needs, reconstruction of design elements with hierarchy, and application on 5 Korean nursing home cases. As the result, Maslow's hierarchy of needs and design elements were linked with good balance. Analysis of 5 nursing homes revealed that lower needs were short of environmental support compared to higher needs. Especially design elements related to Physiological needs should be improved. Also, new framework had strength in not only providing gasps on current situation in detail, but also suggesting elements for improvement with hierarchy and sequence. Through this research healing environment design elements and human needs were linked. Nursing home is the last environment for the elderly, which should help to heal their body and mind and also support them to accomplish self-actualization.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence relationship on the cultural tourism commentators' job satisfaction and willingness to continue by the needs of cultural tourism commentators when insufficient compared to workers in other industries. For this, I used a questionnaire organized based on Maslow's hierarchy of needs to conduct a survey of guides who participated in cultural tour guides training program in Chungcheongbuk-do and Jeollanam-do from Aug. 10 through Sep. 7, 2015. 198 of total 200 copies of the questionnaire were collected. Except 30 copies in which missing values or insincerely filled out, 168 copies were used as data for the analysis in this study. And I used SPSS 18.0 to conduct exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and regression analysis. The analysis showed that cultural tour guides' needs were identified as the four factors of self-actualization, social need, safety and esteem, and physiological needs. Also, self-actualization and social need exercised positive influence on job satisfaction, and regard to the job satisfaction exerted significant positive influence on willingness to continue working. Based on these findings, this paper suggests implications and limitation of the research as well as future directions for the study.

The growth of legal and illegal gambling industry in Korea has increased the gambling accessibility. Actually, the prevalence of gambling addiction in Korea is significantly higher than those in western countries. The problems related to gambling make negative consequences in the individual, familial and socio-economical aspect. Previous studies showed that the prevalence of problem gambling by college students was much higher than that by adolescence and adult due to the nature of psychosocial developmental stage. The purpose of this study is to explore the path of problem gambling among college students based on the Jacob's general theory of addiction. Participants are 366 male college students who have experienced on gambling behavior. The main results are as follows. First, the problem gambling prevalence of participants is 14%. Second, statistical analysis using structural equation modeling shows the significant pathway among psychological vulnerability, needs to escape and problem gambling. Instead, the physiological vulnerability is not significant on the path to problem gambling. On the basis of these findings, the implications for social welfare prevention and intervention to college students are discussed.

This study purposes to explore the growing process through spousal bereavement in later life, and to develop the theory. A qualitative research was conducted, and the participants were 17 seniors. The analysis according to Strauss and Corbin's grounded theory(1998), resulted in 143 concepts, 43 subcategories, and 19 categories. Range analysis according to paradigm showed that the causal conditions were 'marital relationships', 'independent/dependent tendencies', and 'emotional readiness for the death of a spouse', and the phenomena were 'depression', 'hopelessness', 'daily stress', 'psychological intimidation', 'regret', and 'sense of being freed'. The contextual conditions that affect these phenomena were 'desire for intimate personal relationships' and 'desire to maintain independence'; the action/interaction strategies to manage the phenomena were 'facing reality' and 'efforts for construction of the new life'; and the mediating conditions that promote or suppress these action/interaction strategies were 'social support' and 'spirituality'. The results were 'reconstruction of the meaning in life', 'increase in self-esteem', 'reinforcement of social network' and 'embrace and acceptance'. Furthermore, when personal growth after bereavement of a spouse was analyzed focusing on changes over time, the growth process consisted of three steps: 'sadness and despair', 'embracing and moving forward', and 'personal growth'. The pattern analyses were performed to typify recurring relations by category, and 5 types were derived. The results of our study show that personal growth after spousal loss is an integrative process in life after crisis, and can be conceptualized as the process of overcoming the despair that immediately follows the death of a spouse, seeking a new life by actively taking control, and discovering a strengthened self.

This study is on the variation of characters' role and desire in the series animation. For this study, Greimas Actant Model is used to analyze characters' role and behavior and Maslow's Motivation Theory is used to analyze the changing pattern in their desire. Finally, Joseph Campbell's Monomyth or Hero's Journey is used to analyze the whole narrative through all the series. For this analysis, this study chose series animation as a case, The study shows that the desire of the protagonist of series animation keeps escalating for higher values. On the contrary, the other characters' desire don't show any consistency. This result can be explained with monomyth frame. The escalation of the desire in natural because the whole series is a three consecutive episodes about the story of a person's turning over a new leaf and reunion of the parted family. Also, the escalation is originally plotted by the protagonist's expectation role in monomyth's three steps; self-awareness, accomplishment and ultimate freedom.

This study was performed to analyze the process and develop the pattern of school dropout in the context of the Korean educational systems. Participants were 30 adolescents experiencing dropout one more times and their age ranged from 16 to 23. A major category derived and analysed from a grounded theory method of Strauss and Corbin(1990). The qualitative analysis indicated that dropout is contradictory experiences in Korea. Because it is emancipation from various distress of school systems as well as loss of various benefit as students, Main causes of dropout were identity problems, school frustrations(failure in school achievements), environmental disadvantaged and delinquencies. Sometimes these various causes are emerged at the same time. Most important condition of context which was decided was whether dropout was voluntary and considered. After dropout from school, it was important if there were resources such as emotional and informative supports. Especially informative support was critical to adjust after dropout. Dropout experience was divided largely into 4 patterns such as type of 'searching the identity', 'being disorganized', 'escaping' and 'frustration'. In chronological analysis resulted in 4 stages including 'stage I. loss of motivation', 'stage II. escaping from school', 'stage III. trial and error', 'stage IV changing the meaning of dropout in the life.

Based on the Everyday Information Seeking Behavior Theory, this study investigates information activities and library experience of 66 elderly or people with disabilities in Autonomous District A. In addition, this study analyzes contextual circumstances of daily information activities through in-depth interviews with a subset of 11 people. Although community welfare centers provide basic welfare, the elderly and people with disabilities seek to learn and socialize in cultural welfare centers, particularly in libraries. This study shows that libraries can fulfill their top three of Maslow's hierarchy of needs: Self-Actualization, Esteem, and Love and Belonging. Specifically, digital literacy education has been identified to be highly demanded. They seek to distinguish correct online information and to socialize using digital technologies in this contactless society. This study proposes a detailed plan for public libraries to offer cultural and information welfare in order to reduce the information gap within the local communities.
