  • This study aimed to identify the efficiency of online non-face-to-face English classes to propose possibilities for expanding these types of classes in a sustainable way even in the post-COVID era. Moreover, the study suggests pedagogical implications for the directions that should be further explored for online non-face-to-face English classes. To this end, the study employed an online non-face-to-face English reading class using Zoom and investigated the effects of online teaching on college students' reading comprehension via two achievement tests. The study also analyzed learners' satisfaction or dissatisfaction with this online non-face-to-face English reading class (and their reasons) through a questionnaire. Ultimately, the study found that online non-face-to-face English reading classes have a positive effect on learners' reading comprehension learning. In addition, the reasons for learners' satisfaction with online non-face-to-face classes include systematic class progress, class quality, and efficiency of learning. Instructors must be aware of the need to expand online non-face-to-face classes, for which they will have to be thoroughly prepared in advance. Instructors will also need to implement efficient online class activities, organize classes systematically with detailed explanations, and provide quick and useful feedback.

  • This study aims to answer the following questions: 'Do university students who are satisfied with their online courses have higher academic achievement?' and 'What are the key self-regulated learning strategy factors that influence satisfaction and academic performance?'. To do this, this study conducted a survey of university students taking online courses and collected a total of 95 questionnaires. Research method used structural equation model. The results of the analysis showed that, First, satisfaction and academic achievement in university online courses were found to be unrelated. Second, the factors affecting satisfaction and academic achievement were found to be different. Time management was analyzed as a significant factor affecting both satisfaction and academic achievement, while interaction was found to affect satisfaction only. These findings can be used as a basis for developing practical policies to prioritize and support self-regulated learning as an effective teaching method in university online courses.

  • Zoom has been most popularly used as a non-face-to-face online class tool since COVID19, but due to the recent spread of the metaverse, the use of the metaverse platform is increasing. In particular, since a metaverse platform 'Spatial' provides online classroom creation and various learning functions, and various interactions between instructors and learners or learners and learners are possible, it is highly likely to be used in university classes. Since Zoom and Spatial each have their own strengths and weaknesses for the purpose of class use, it is necessary to find out the strengths and weaknesses of each by comparing and analyzing the learner's experience in class use. In this study, a quantitative analysis of usability, immersion, and satisfaction and a qualitative analysis of individual opinions were performed in order to compare and analyze the learner's experience. SUS (System Usability Scale) was used for usability evaluation, and Magnitude Estimation method was used for immersion and satisfaction evaluation. Thirty-five people who had participated in classes using Zoom and Spatial participated as subjects in this study. Zoom was higher than Spatial at the significance level of 0.05 in usability and satisfaction. On the other hand, the immersion in class was higher in Spatial than in Zoom. Since Spatial provides online classroom creation and various learning functions, and provides various interactions and fun elements between instructors and learners or learners and learners, the immersion in classes was high. If the user interface and interaction of Spatial are improved in the future, it is judged that it can be used as an effective online teaching tool that can replace zoom in university classes.

  • This study aims to analyze differences in the social presence of instructor by instructor's social intervention, the effects of the social presence of instructor on learning satisfaction, and learner characteristics related to the social presence of instructor. Data including subjects' demographic information, interactions, social presence of instructor, social presence of the course, and learning satisfaction were collected from 119 adult learners in an online university in Korea. The main findings of this study are as follows. First, the social presence of instructor was higher in the higher-aged group or active group on intranet message board than the lower-aged group or inactive group on the board. Second, instructor's social intervention increased the level of perceived social presence of instructor. However, the active group on the board has shown the highest level of perceived social presence of instructor, without instructor's social intervention. Third, there was a high correlation between instructor's social intervention and the social presence of instructor, while the variables affecting learning satisfaction were the social presence of instructor and social presence of the course. From the results of this study, it is suggested that instructors' social interventions be provided systematically for those who are not active in social interaction to enhance their learning satisfaction.

  • This research was conducted in order to know how influential the acknowledgment of factors such as the quality of educational contents and the conducting of off-line lectures is in terms of effective learning for leaners. Based on the satisfaction-importance model of the multi-attribute attitude model, this study would like to clarify the degree to which the quality of on-line contents of on-line education and the simultaneous conducting of off-line lectures influences one's learning attitude. On-line contents satisfaction will evaluated through the three categories: audio lectures, video lecture and WBI lectures, which make up the quality of on-line contents. We would also like to do a survey on the transformation of learning attitudes when on-line and off-line lectures were conducted simultaneously.
