  • The end-of-life vehicles (ELV) are important recycling sources, and there are several stages involved in the recycling such as dismantling, shredding, and treatment of shredder residues (ASR). The legal recycling rate should be at least 95% on and after 2015, while we need a proper system to monitor recycling of ELV components and to calculate the practical recycling rate. The paper suggests a monitoring system that calculates practical recycling rates of dismantled components by use of a database of standard recycling rate as well as a web-based monitoring, which is linked to the Eco Assurance system for electric & electronic equipment and vehicle (EcoAS). Also the system supports dismantling and monitoring process by incorporating a standard vehicular component database, which facilitates recording dismantled weight data but also monitoring of dismantled components.

  • Time-lapse seismic surveys make repeated seismic surveys at different stages of oil production of a hydrocarbon reservoir to monitor changes in reservoir like fluid saturation. Since the repeatable surface seismic measurements can identify fluid types and map fluid saturations, oil and gas companies can make much more informed decision during not only production but also drilling and development. If time-lapse seismic surveys compare 3D seismic surveys, the time-lapse surveys are widely called as 4D seismic. A meaningful time-lapse interpretation is based on the repeatability of seismic surveys, which mainly depends on improved positioning and reduced noise (if surveys were designed properly through a feasibility study). The time-lapse interpretation can help oil and gas companies to maximize oil and gas recovery. This paper discusses about time-lapse seismic surveys mainly focused on feasibility, repeatability, data processing and interpretation.

  • In the recent years, a variety of projects have been conducted in order to enhance competitiveness of leading businesses and their followers in the market. Accordingly, the importance of project portfolio management has risen in the open market industry. Project portfolio management refers to crucial decision-making processes which aim to maximize benefits by selecting projects most suitable for a strategic objective among multiple projects with limited resources. In this study, the trend of project portfolio management studies is introduced. The study also presents a mathematical model of the problem, which aims at maximizing project values, possibility, and similarity between projects in the limited resources. We use the genetic algorithm to obtain the priority orders of projects. In order to verify this study, we compare the results of this study and the existing schedules of the E-open market in South Korea. This study ultimately reduces project risks, improves efficiency of development and continuity of tasks by properly ordering projects and assigning developers to the projects.

  • Recently, the scale of construction work has been growing, and buildings are becoming higher. To enable greater efficiency of construction work, the use of vertical transportation equipment has been radically increasing. In this context, many studies have been conducted on tower cranes. While these studies have discussed issues such as the selection of tower cranes, the optimization of locations, and the hoisting time of tower cranes, there has been no research on the installation of tower cranes. As such, the installation of tower cranes on construction sites has been accomplished based on subjective judgment and technical assistance, and the experience of workers in equipment companies. Therefore, this study analyzes the productivity of tower cranes using simulation methodology, and proposes a generalized model of the installation process of tower cranes in order to offer a basic resource that site managers can directly utilize.
