The subjects were 272 $4^{th}$ and 349 $8^{th}$ grader in Chin-ju. Data were analyzed by the SAS/PC+ program, including Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, Pearson's correlation, multiple regression and two-way ANOVA. Findings were that peer acceptance had a higher influence on academic-general self, peer-related self, physical-appearance self, personality self and physical-competence self than did mother's support. Mother's support had a higher influence on home self than did peer acceptance. Best friend's support and mother's support interacted with children's physical-appearance self and physical-competence self. Best friend's support and peer acceptance interacted with student's peer-related self.

  • Purpose: This study was done to investigate the point prevalence of postpartum depression and its predictors during early postpartum in mother of preterm infants. Methods: Participants were 101 women, 2-3 weeks after delivery whose preterm babies were hospitalized in a neonatal intensive care unit. Data were collected from June 2010 to January 2011. The instruments included 'Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale', 'Prenatal depression', 'Subjective health status of infant', 'Medical staff support', and 'Husband support'. Collected data were analyzed using t-test, ${\chi}^2$-test, and multiple logistic regression with SPSS/WIN version 18.0. Results: The point prevalence was 86.1% that postpartum depression occurred during the early postpartum period in mothers of preterm infants. Three significant predictors of postpartum depression in mothers of preterm infants were identified; 'Type of delivery (OR, 5.57; 95% CI, 1.25-24.77)', 'Subjective health status of infant (OR, 0.34; 95% CI, 0.16-0.70)', and 'Medical staff support (OR, 0.52; 95% CI, 0.28-0.97)'. Conclusion: The results indicate that postpartum mothers should be screened for postpartum depression early in the postpartum period and that, medical personnel should pay particular attention to mothers with a caesarean section and should help mothers of preterm babies to develop positive perceptions of their babies.

  • This study analyses the effect of gender on the support and control dimension of the relationship between adolescent children and their parents in 5 countries - Korea, Japan, U.S., Germany, and Sweden. This study predicts that mothers are more supportive and less controlling towards their children than fathers; that parents are more supportive towards their daughters than sons; and that supportive relationship is most pronounced in mother-daughter relations while controlling relationship is pronounced in father-son relations. We used the 2006 multi-national survey data collected by the National Youth Policy Institute for the analysis, selecting the cases in which the youth respondents were born between 1988 and 1993 and were living with both biological parents. All three hypotheses are supported in Korean cases. In the cases of the other nations, the hypotheses are only partially supported. In all the 5 nations, mothers are more supportive towards their children than are fathers. While parents are more supportive towards daughters than towards sons in most countries, the impact of children's gender in producing differences in parental behavior is less profound than the impact of parent's gender. Gender affects the control dimension of the relationship only in Korea and U.S.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of caregiving burden of a developmentally disabled child on marital conflict and to examine the moderating effects of social support and social activities. For the purpose, a total of 124 mothers of developmentally disabled children who were enrolled at specialized school in Incheon were surveyed from May 15, 2011 to May 31, 2011 by using self-reported questionnaires. Our analysis on the data suggested as follows: first of all, the burden from caregiving a developmentally disabled child was a significant predictor of marital conflict. In addition, informal social support and participation in social activities moderated the relationship between the caregiving burden and marital conflict. Based on the findings, we provide measures to resolve the family problems of those with a disabled child.

This research suggests therapeutic methods for reducing the negative effects of emotional abuse. Data about emotional abuse, difficulties in emotion regulation, emotional support, and relationship inventory were collected by online survey from 336 adults in South Korea. To test moderation effects, multiple regression analyses entering emotional abuse, emotional support(facilitative relationship) and their interaction terms were hierarchically conducted. Emotional abuse increased difficulties in emotion regulation. Moderating effects of emotional support and facilitative relationship were found in the relation between father's emotional abuse and difficulties in emotion regulation. But Moderating effects of emotional support and facilitative relationship were not found in the relation between mother's emotional abuse and difficulties in emotion regulation. The different effects of father's emotional abuse and mother's, the effects of adult's positive relationship, and clinical implications of these findings were discussed.
