In this study, the safety and effectiveness of ope cutter, developed to prevent frequent accident propeller windingness at sea. First, we calculated the bolt strength of the three types of rope cutting devices used in the experiment and the torsional stresses on the shafting system theoretical equation and the finite element method. As a result, the bolts used in the rope cutter confirmed from the viewpoint of safety life design and fail safe design. Also, safety satisfactory because of the small effect on the shaft system when locking up. Experiments were carried out to cut ropes and fishing nets from the sea using the ships equipped with three types of rope cutters verified to be safe. As a result, ropes of 20 to 50 mm in thickness were generally cut. It was found that the cutting efficiency of a rope cutter attached to shafting decreased when cutting thick ropes.

The maneuverabilities of 240 GT class skipjack pole and liner were studied, based on the maneuvering indices and the data which were obtained from Z test of the experimental ship, the m.s. KWANACKSAN, the training ship of the National Fisheries University of Busan. The maneuvering indices K' of the experimental ship were 0.611(at 10$^{\circ}$Z test), 0.622(at 20$^{\circ}$Z test) and 0.556(at 30$^{\circ}$Z test). Her maneuvering indices T' were 1.094(at 10$^{\circ}$Z test), 1.695(at 20$^{\circ}$Z test) and 1.367(at 30$^{\circ}$Z test). The above calculated values K', T' showed that her turning ability at helm angle 20$^{\circ}$ and her obeying ability at helm angle 10$^{\circ}$ were most effective. As it appeared that the calculated K'-values of the experimental ship were smaller than the standard K'-values of different kinds of ships and her overshoot angles at her Z test were greater than those of them, her turning ability was found to be lower. When the experimental ship took a turn at her 10$^{\circ}$Z test, running distance was about 8.3 times her own length and didn't exceed the standard maneuvering distance, 5 to 11 times ship's own length, therefore she was considered to have good maneuverabilities synthetically.
To achieve the 2D dose distribution around the designed high dose rate Ir-192 source substitution for Co-60 brachytherapy source, we determined the exposure rate constant and tissue attenuation factors as a large depth as a 20 cm from source center. The exposure rate constant is used for apparent activity in designed source with self-absorption and encapsulation steel wall. The tissue dose delivered from the 4401 segments of 2.5 mm in a diameter and 2.5 mm height of disk-type source layer. In the experiments, the tissue attenuation factors include the tissue attenuation and multiple scattering in a medium surrounding the source. The fitted the polynomial regression with 4th order for the tissue attenuation factors are very closed to the experimental measurement data within ${\pm}$1% discrepancy. The Meisberger's constant showed the large uncertainty in large distance from source. The exposure rate constant 4.69 Rcm$^2$/mCi-hr was currently used for determination of apparent activity of source and air kerma strength was obtained 0.973 for tissue absorbed dose from the energy spectrum of Ir-192 source. In our experiments with designed high dose rate brachytherapy source, the apparent activity of Ir-192 source was delivered from the 54.6 % of actual physical source activity through the self-absorption and encapsulation wall attenuations. This paper provides the 2-dimensional dose tabulation from unit apparent activity in a water medium for dose planning includes the multiple scattering, source anisotropy effect and geometric factors.

Viscous flow around actual ship is calculated by an use of RANS equations. The propriety of this computing method, usefulness to hull form design and the scale effect which is the effect of viscous flow depending on the scale of ship model are investigated. Reynolds stress is modelled by using k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and the law of wall is applied near the body. Body fitted coordinates are introduced for the treatment of the arbitrary 3-dimensional shape of the ship hull form. The transformed equations in the computational domain are numerically solved by an employment of FVM. In the calculation of pressure, SIMPLE method is adopted and the solution of the discretized equation is obtained by the line-by-line method with the use of TDMA The calculations of two ships, 4410 TEU container carrier and 50,000 DWT class bulk carrier, are performed at model and actual ship scale. The results are compared and discussed with the model test results which are viscous resistance, nominal wake distribution at propeller plane and limiting streamline on the hull surface. They describe the effect of stem form and the scale effect very well. In particular, the calculated nominal wake distribution and limiting streamline are agreed qualitatively with the experiments and the viscous resistance values are estimated within ${\pm}5%$ difference from the resistance tests.

This paper described on a basic study to organize fishing vessel control system in order to control efficiently fishing vessel in Korean offshore. It was digitalized ARPA image on the fishing processing of a fleet of purse seiner in conducting fishing operation at Cheju offshore in Korea as a digital camera and then simulated by used VTMS. Futhermore, it was investigated on the application of FVTMS which can control efficiently fishing vessels in fishing ground. The results obtained were as follows ; (1) It was taken 16 minutes and 35 minutes to casting and hauling net in fishing processing respectively. The length of rope pulled by scout boat was 200m, tactical diameter in casting net was 340.8m, turning speed was 6kts as well. (2) The processing of casting and hauling net was moved to SW, NE as results of simulation when the current direction and speed set into NE, 2kts and SW, 2kts respectively. Such as these results suggest that can predict to control the fishing vessel previously with information of fishing ground, fishery and ship's maneuvering, etc. (3) The control range of VTMS radar used in simulation was about 16 miles. Although converting from a radar of the control vessel to another one, it was continuously acquired for the vector and the target data. The optimum control position could be determined by measuring and analyzing to distance and direction between the control vessel and the fleet of fishing vessel. (4) The FVTMS(fishing vessel traffic management services) model was suggested that fishing vessels received fishing conditions and safety navigation information can operate safely and efficiently.

In this study, we have conducted a work on homogenizer development which is operated by high shearing force generated by stator and rotor inside it. To investigate the performance for homogenization and atomization of homogenizer, Bunker-C (IFO 380 cSt) was used as a fuel for experiment. Pre-treatment of bunker-C was carried out with homogenizer developed in this study. Oil purifier was used to investigate effect of oil sludge reduction after pre-treatment. Experimental result showed that the amount of sludge of fuel oil after pre-treatment with homogenizer has decreased by 13 %. To confirm combustion efficiency, Bunker-C which have pre-treatment with homogenizer and purified after are burned in boiler system. The result showed that CO concentration in exhaust gas was decreased. These results mean that if the homogenizer which is developed in this study for marine fuel oil is applied on real vessels, oil costs and operating costs can be reduced.

To analyze the shape of the net mouth of bottom trawl which is composed with 6 seams net, the field experiment was carried out on the sea near Kokunsan Is, Western sea of Korea. The distance of otter board, net height, trawl speed and resistance of the fishing gear were respectively measured according to the change of warp length and towing speed. The results obtained are summarized as follows : 1. The spreading distance of the otter board has been increased straightly according to the increment of towing speed and warp length. The rate of increase by the warp length has been greatly higher than the rate of increase by the towing speed. The total variation of the spreading distance was 57.0-82.8m, and it was occupied 43-62% of the hand rope, net pendent and the length of nets. 2. The height of net mouth has been decreased straightly according to the increment of towing speed and warp length. The rate of decrease by the towing speed has been greatly higher than the decrease rate of the warp length. The total variation of the net height was 3.1-4.0m. 3. When the distance of wing tip is increased, the height of net mouth is decreased, but the ratio of the decreasing rate of the height of net mouth for the increasing rate of the distance of wing tip was gradually low according to the increment of warp length. 4. The ratio of the distance of both wing tip for the height of net mouth has been increased gradually according to the increment of towing speed and warp length, and the total variation of the ratio was 4.17-7.81 times.
The IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit) which is the expensive equipment has been used as a special limited area, usually in measurement of posture of applying to the areas of ship, submarine, aircraft and military equipment application. However, in the current situation, MEMS AHRS technology can replace the high-priced IMU in MEMS AHRS selected application field. In this paper, wireless hull motion measurement system was suggested for measuring key elements of ship's movement such as rolling, pitching and yawing using gyro, acceleration and magnetic sensors of AHRS. In order to reduce the error such as instantaneous acceleration, effects and vibration of geomagnetic, we have adopted the sensors equipped with Kalman filtering. The Wireless hull motion measurement system using AHRS sensors was tested in actual ship and it could easily be applied in limited installation circumstances of the ship. In the future, this system can be useful in the navigation safety and marine accident analysis by using with ship equipment such as INS or VDR in the maritime.

In December 2017, many collision accidents of small vessels, such as those between oil refineries and fishing boats, occurred near Yeonghung-do in Incheon. In order to prevent marine casualties from small vessels, the government is striving to improve the safety capabilities of ship operators by strengthening education and improving the working environment. They are providing education and refining training regulations for fishermen operating vessels under 5 tons. However, the situation includes certain vulnerabilities. In this study, we propose a collision prevention algorithm for small vessels using the Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments (WAVE) communication system, which is a new communication technique to prevent collisions with small ships. The collision avoidance algorithm used is based on DCPA/TCPA. Research analyses, simulation experiments and questionnaires have been conducted to define the criteria of DCPA/TCPA. As a result, the standard for DCPA was $8(L_a+L_b)$ and for TCPA was 2.5 min. Three different accident cases were selected, and this algorithm was applied to confirm alarm responses at certain times. This algorithm can provide information to the operators of small ships in advance to help them recognize potential collision situations.

The selective catalytic reduction (SCR) is known as a very efficient method to reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) and the catalyst performs reduction from nitrogen oxides (NOx) to nitrogen (N2) and water vapor (H2O). The catalyst, which is one of the factors determining the performance of the nitrogen oxide (NOx) ruduction method, is known to increase catalyst efficiency as cell density increases. In this study, the reduction characteristics of nitrogen oxides (NOx) under various engine loads investigated. A 100CPSI(60Cell) catalysts was studied through a laboratory-sized simulating device that can simulate the exhaust gas conditions from the power generation engine installed in the training ship SEGERO. The effect of 100CPSI(60Cell) cell density was compared with that of 25.8CPSI(30Cell) cell density that already had NOx reduction data from the SCR manufacturing. The experimental catalysts were honeycomb type and its compositions and materials of V2O5-WO3-TiO2 were retained, with only change on cell density. As a result, the NOx concentration reduction rate from 100CPSI(60Cell) catalyst was 88.5%, and IMO specific NOx emission was 0.99g/kwh satisfying the IMO Tier III NOx emission requirement. The NOx concentration reduction rate from 25.8CPSI(30Cell) was 78%, and IMO specific NOx emission was 2.00g/kwh. Comparing the NOx concentration reduction rate and emission of 100CPSI(60Cell) and 25.8CPSI(30Cell) catalysts, notably, the NOx concentration reduction rate of 100CPSI(60Cell) catalyst was 10.5% higher and its IMO specific NOx emission was about twice less than that of the 25.8CPSI(30Cell) catalysts. Therefore, an efficient NOx reduction effect can be expected by increasing the cell density of catalysts. In other words, effects to production cost reduction, efficient arrangement of engine room and cargo space can be estimated from the reduced catalyst volume.
