  • Disaster mythology is "beliefs about human behavior in disaster that have been proven to be wrong through scientifically conducted research studies." Disaster researchers have discovered a series of disaster myths. The results of research survey based on 491 individuals confirm prior research representing widespread belief in disaster mythology such as panic, looting, crime, evacuation and lethargy. This study also indicates that, while high, the percentage of local government officials demonstrating belief in disaster myths was lower than the public except for looting. The probability of believing disaster myths was greater for individuals who were female (panic and evacuation), old (evacuation and lethargy), in their twenties and thirties (looting), and officials with disaster related work experience (panic, looting and crime). The results indicate the importance of understanding public belief to make effective emergency plans.

  • When reviewing animation based on a mythical motive, the mythical imaginary power has been dependent only on audio visual senses thereby resorting to a fantasy nature regardless of reality, or there has been too much emphasis on an educational message and animation has been utilized as a conflicting composition between good and evil. Therefore, this thesis reviewed 1) whether the author's consciousness was reflected in animation according to the contemporary interpretation of mythical imaginary power and 2) whether the author included an internal meaning of a universal subject by having a short animation that was produced by actively utilizing a mythical motive as a text. Also, based on the analysis, the study deduced the conclusion that the most important thing in animation based on a mythical motive is the author's consciousness that reinterprets the theme of 'universality' from a contemporary perspective before expressing the mythical objects through the senses such as by a brilliant image and sound. The products of such an analysis are supposed to solve the problem over how mythical factors need to be applied and utilized in creating animation.

  • From the result of analysis to animation, it can be detected the close relation between myth and animation. As Plato mention that myth is a story. Though it is common field for many researchers on myth and animation now, but it have been performing many researches only for animation narrative in the aspect of myth. Therefore this study will be examined that the ritual ceremony, the frequency of participation, and imagination of myth can be related with animation directly. The ritual ceremony is a similar activity to go to theater for watching animation. It can be merged into the unconsciousness state while awaken state. A high frequency of ritual ceremony can also be provide the experience of shortening a distance between the present and the ancient time of mythical aura. Last, imagination is an enemy of rational thoughts, however, it is vital source and material which was created by myth and it can also create new animation. It will be formulated a methodology for this paper which are three elements for an analogizing tool with new mythological approaches, it is inclusive method for animation and myth. So it can be applied and analyzed to other visual media with this methodology.

  • C. G. Jung believed that universal and basic condition of human's Unconscious comes out from Märchen or mythology. We can easily experience these universality of human nature in dreams. Therefore, It is very important to interpret mythogens that appear in myths and märchen in analytical psychology to understand these 'big dreams' which could be seen in clinical practice. As I was interested in interpreting myths in analytic psychology, I tried to find universality of archetypes in Korea's traditional folk tales and took note of the birth myth of Hyeokgeose, the founder of Shilla dynasty, while examining the chater of the Unsual in history in the Heritage of the Three Kingdoms. Shilla was founded earlier than two other countries, but it was located in the very south of the Korean Peninsula, and it was behind times in politically, militarily, and culturally compare to Goguryeo and Baekje. However, Shilla achieved unifying the Three Kingdoms and it lasted 1000 years, the longest unified history in Korean history. I tried to examine archetypes in the birth myth if there are any backgrounds that are related to finding a Shilla Kingdom. It is noted that myth of the founder of Korean Peninsula's small Kingdom Shilla has complete story from before the birth to birth, birth of spouse, growth, marriage, accession, governing, death, after death, and succession. Symbols such as numbers 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 13 and 61, various azimuthes including north, west, south, east, and central, animals like tiger, white horse, hen, dragon, phoenix, and snakes, natures like main symbol egg, rock, gourd, lightening, spring water, stream, tree, forest, mountain, iron and goddess-image like seon-do Holy Mother gradually appears in the myth. These symbols could show a meaning of human experience such as birth of Conscious, growth and development of paternal and maternal love, and story of regeneration and extinction. Moreover, It could be seen as these progress eternally continues in next generation. I have found out that a word, a sentence or stories that looks meaningless in myth revealed its true symbolical meaning. In addition, interaction between Unconscious and Conscious repeats in different forms, and expressed in layered.

  • There are many reasons why myths are used in the cultural context. However, the primary reason is that myths tend to be a safe choice as they are guaranteed to be entertaining and connect people over the past thousands of years, and are also free from issues related to plagiarism. In particular, myths from Northern Europe are used in many parts of modern cultural content as they have a clear conflict between good and evil and present a universe with various tribes and worlds. This study analyzed the movie series of Thor and the game Ragnarok to investigate how myths are used in the modern cultural context. In the movie series of Thor and the game Ragnarok, it is possible to identify how myths are modified while keeping their basic storyline. The findings from the analysis can be summarized as follows.
