  • Facilities with high risk of a disaster or requiring continuous safety management are designated as class-III facility. In order to designate a class-III facility, it is evaluated based on the safety status of the facility, the risk to the building users, and the number of years elapsed of the facility, etc. and this shall be referred to the actual condition survey for the designation of a class-III facility. In the actual condition survey conducted to designate the safety status is calculated by the checklist based on the evaluation scores consisting of five stages each item, and is evaluated in three stages by 'good', 'careful observation', and 'designated review' through the average of the combined scores. Currently, the actual condition survey being conducted applies only structural stability, and the risk factors such as damage to the finish, the risk of cracking, and the type and weight of major structures are not included in the checklist for the actual condition survey, so even if experts think it is dangerous, scores cannot be reflected. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the problems of checklist of the actual condition survey for the designation of class-III facility and to propose an improvement plan for the checklist for the actual condition survey.

  • Although pilot projects have been actively carried out from 2017 to present to institutionalize CM at Risk, one of the major tasks for innovation in the construction industry, standards and processes related to Design VE, a key tool for determining GMP in the pre-construction phase, have not yet been established. Therefore, through research and operation status related to CM at Risk and Design VE, and survey on project participants' perception, the problem of the existing design VE process was derived, and the design VE process suitable for the CM at Risk project was proposed. The application plan was proposed in three aspects: Schedule, Cycle, and Process, and the appropriateness and applicability were verified through FGI. The results of this study are expected to be used as basic data on the establishment and legislation of order standards to be made in the future.

  • After the construction participants system is abolished, expectations are high for its consequences such as liquidating paper-companies, holding back low price contracts, and improving multi-stepwise subcontract structure. However, the professional construction firms have been took responsibilities and obligations as businessmen employing the chief workmen and construction workers. For this reason, it is expected that they will be charged a great deal of expenses such as increase in labor management services and laborers, the occurrence of an retirement grants, insurance fees, etc. Since the hold on power of field managers are getting weaker toward the construction workers, it is most likely to have loss in efficiency of production in the long term. Therefore purpose of this research is to analyze difficulties and the point at issues with which professional construction firms are undergoing after abolishing the construction participants system by investigating on the actual condition in the field management. For this research, we got a grip on the actual condition and analyzed the rise of a primary factor on reinforced concrete construction.

  • The purpose of this study is to analysis the noise characteristics about noise type, sound level, and noise occurrence frequency of living noise in residential buildings. The field measurement was conducted to classify the types of living noise and to examine the actual states of noise occurrence for each living noise source. Among the 24 types of living noise, 10 noise sources were selected based on the loudness and frequency of each living noise. The result indicated that 10 noise sources show the difference on each noise occurrence characteristic by time zones. Therefore, to reduce noise, a management plan should be introduced based on the actual state of the noise occurrence, considering the individual noise source and the time slot during noise frequently occurs. Moreover, the noise standard for each noise types of living noise should be specificated and the education for residents about characteristics of living noise types should be conducted to improve the consciousness of residents.

  • Due to the lack of a noise and vibration survey for military air bases, noise and vibration are not taken into consideration for new installations, which has resulted in a number of problems, including the separation of tiles. Furthermore, it is not possible to establish appropriate counter-vibration plans to minimize damage resulting from vibration on structures, since no standard is in place when location for residence areas, including military quarters, is determined. In this context, this research includes a noise and vibration survey, on which basis a quantitative evaluation model for vibration of structure by aircraft noise is generated, as well as through linear regression analysis, and suggests installation standards by purpose of structure, minimizing the damage due to noise and vibration, and establishing appropriate counter-vibration plans for future installation and repairs of on-base structures in the military bases.

  • Seoul metropolitan government of South Korea has large population and facilities, and lots of building construction have been performed in urban area. Many safety accidents with causing lives and property damages occurred at construction sites in South Korea and Seoul. Thus, Korea government and Seoul have made efforts to secure the safety of construction sites. In this study, current law and measures by central department and Seoul were analyzed to find limitations and improvement points in construction safety management. Safety inspection results for construction sites in Seoul were investigated to demonstrate the main hazard work and safety risk, and interview surveys targeting safety managing persons were performed according to safety management, inspection, and education. Based on analytical results of current status on safety management, improvement measures were proposed for safety secure on construction safety in Seoul. The proposed measures include improvement of safety management systems, alleviation of safety blind spots according to construction size, strengthening efficiency of safety management, and autonomous safety engagement by construction sites centered.

  • With construction projects continuously becoming more massive and complex, risk factors have been consistently increasing. To achieve a successful project, it is very important to identify and cope with such risk factors. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to suggest plans of reducing risk, not only for describing the drafting process for construction planning but also for systematically organizing constraints and risk factors in earth work, foundation work and reinforced concrete construction. To achieve these objectives, this study 1) analyzes previous theories about risk classification structure, 2) performs a case study of an actual project to embody the problems of safety management by analyzing the results of an interview with a construction engineer. In conclusion, the following factors were systematically organized: 1) characteristics of construction site (purpose, structure, floor, etc.); 2) the actual application conditions of the main construction methods; 3) the relationship between constraints and risk factors.

  • Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ratio of online education in domestic universities has rapidly increased. This research has developed a curriculum that can be blended with online education-especaally for building construction. The realities of building construction education provided by domestic universities during the COVID-19 pandemic were analyzed. It was revealed that approximately 66.1% of the education was provided online, while approximately 33.9% of the education was provided in the form of face-to-face lectures. It was thus found that the ratio of online education had rapidly increased. We developed a blended learning curriculum of building construction subjects. The curriculum focused on weekly education procedures and the contents of education for each 15-week period. The curriculum proposed by this research could be applied flexibly according to the education goals of the instructor and the learning capabilities of the students.

  • Safety management is the most important factor in the construction industry. If the construction company don't control the risk, it causes the accident which give the company fatal loss. According to the Korea industrial safety analysis reports, the 25.72% of the disasters are from the construction industry, and the 13.6% construction disasters are caused by not properly using the safety gears. Therefore, this study is to investigate the Wearing Safety Gear by Occupational Classification and the Satisfaction in the Construction Field. The results are ; Carpenters are dissatisfied with the safety shoes and belt, re-bar workers are dissatisfied with the safety helmet and shoes, Concrete workers are dissatisfied with the safety helmet and goggles.
