  • In this paper, we design a sequential system controller, which is capable of processing parallel sequence, on the basis of analysis of control specification described by Petri Net with incidence matrix. The sequential system controller consists of input conditioning unit and petri net control unit which is composed of the token control unit and firing unit. The firing unit determines the firing condition of the transfer signal on the basis of the token status of token control unit. By the proposed scheme, we can easily develop and implement the sequential system controller of automated warehousing system, automated transportation system, elevator system, and so on, as it is possible to modify control specification by changing simply the content of incidence matrix ROM and to expand easily functional capacity as the result of modular design.design.

  • This paper presents the solution to model matching of switched asynchronous sequential machines by corrective control. We propose a model of switched asynchronous sequential machines, in which the system can have different dynamics of asynchronous machines governed by a pre-determined sequence of switching. The control objective is to derive a corrective control law so that the stable state behavior of the closed-loop system can match that of a prescribed model. A new skeleton matrix is defined to represent the reachability of the switched asynchronous machine, and a novel control scheme is presented that interweaves the switching signal and the corrective control procedure. A design algorithm for the proposed controller is illustrated in a case study.

  • Corrective controllers enable fault diagnosis and tolerance for various faults in asynchronous sequential circuits without resort to redesign. In this paper, we propose a static corrective controller in order to decrease the size of the controller. Compared with dynamic controllers, static controllers can be made using only combinational circuits, as they need no inner states. We address the existence condition and design procedures for static corrective controllers that overcome state transition faults. To show the validity and advantage, the proposed controller is applied to an SEU error counter implemented on FPGA.

  • In this paper, a method to control the speed of a dc motor using a phase locked loop circuit with a variable sequential filter is discussed. We improved the transient response time more than 15 percent compared to conventional system using a variable sequential filter and the steady state error was reduced to less than 0.05 percent per rotation axis.

  • Corrective control for asynchronous sequential machines is a novel automatic control theory that compensates illegal behavior or adverse effects of faults in the operation of existent asynchronous machines. In this paper, we propose a scheme of diagnosing and tolerating faults occurring to input channels of corrective control systems. The corrective controller can detect faults occurring in the input channel to the controlled machine, whereas those faults happening in the external input channel cannot be detected. The proposed scheme involves an outer operator which, upon receiving the state feedback, diagnoses a fault and sends an appropriate command signal to the controller for tolerating faults in the external input channel.

  • The problem of controlling asynchronous sequential machines is addressed in this paper Corrective control means to make behavior of an asynchronous sequential machine equal to that of a given model. The main objective is to develope a corrective controller, especially when a model is given as nondeterministic, or a set of reference models. We first review representation of nondeterministic models and model matching problems with nondeterministic models, which are presented in the companion paper. We then propose necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of corrective controllers and describe their design procedure. To show the applicability, the proposed control scheme is demonstrated in an example.

  • Corrective control compensates the stable-state behavior of asynchronous sequential machines so that the closed-loop system can be changed in a desirable way. Using corrective control, we present a novel fault tolerance scheme that overcomes permanent faults for asynchronous sequential machines. When a permanent fault occurs to an asynchronous machine, the fault is not recovered forever while the machine is irreversibly stuck in a set of failure states. But, if the machine has control redundancy in the limited behavior range, corrective control can be applied to solve the fault tolerance problem against permanent faults. We present the condition on detecting permanent faults and the existence condition of an appropriate corrective controller. The design procedure for the proposed controller is described in a case study.

  • This paper addresses the problem of model matching control for a class of systems modeled as input/output asynchronous sequential machines. Based on the feedback control scheme, we design a corrective controller that compensates the behavior of the closed-loop system so as to match a reference model. Whereas the former studies use state observers and the output burst for designing a controller, the present research needs neither the observer nor the output burst in controller design. We define the 'output equivalent machine' of the considered machine to describe the existence condition and the construction algorithm for the proposed controller. A case study is provided to show the operation of the proposed corrective controller.
