  • This experiment was conducted to elucidate the basic physiological phenomena of pollination and fertilization for breeding in perilla (Perilla frutescens) through different 6 varieties derived from 2 genera under 4 temperature conditions at day and night. The pollen germination was observed after 30 minutes and pollen tube reached the lower part of pistil after 1 hour from artificial pollination. Seed formation was affected by temperature condition and a variety. The early maturing variety 'YCPL 25' showed a poor seed formation rate under the night temperature below $15^{\circ}C$, but the late maturing variety 'YCPL263' did not lowered even though the night time temperature was $10^{\circ}C$. The function of pistil was long maintained under the low temperature from the fact that if the live pollen pollinate artificially to the flower that does not form seed under low temperature, fruiting was made. Pollen was created and pollen tube was developed in the time of petal becomes bigger than calyx in five varieties, 'YCPLl77-1' etc. However, pollen was made and pollen tube was made only 71% in a green chajogi 'YCPL205-1'. These physiological phenomena of pollination and fertilization could be applicable to the emasculation and an effective breeding in perilla.

  • The "Jeongjagak(丁字閣, T shaped building)" was important building from Goryeo Dynasty to Joseon Dynasty. For long period, the scale and form of the building had been changing bit by bit. The change of building results from the function. As the Jeongjagak accepted the functions of the Yeongakjeon(靈幄殿), there appeared changes of plane. The main function of Yeongakjeon was suppling space for the dead king's coffin. The Yeongakjeon was not built in the first year of King Sukjong(1674). At that time, the Jeongjagak was responsible for the function of the Yeongakjeon as an alternative. Starting from this, the Jeongjagak was used as space for the dead king's coffin. Because the coffin should place on from south to north, it demanded long inner space in south-north direction. Therefore the effort to make enough length in south-north direction was begun from the first year of King Sukjong(1674). In order to solve the problem, the Toigu(退構) was made from the reign of King Sukjong to the 28th year King Youngjo(1852). The Toigu was temporary inner space which was made in one compartment at the Baewichung(拜位廳, the part of the Jeongjagak). But the length of the Jeongjagak's south-north direction was reduced to 61.8m(20尺6寸) at the 33th year of King Youngjo(1857) when the "Gukjosangryebopyon(國朝喪禮補編)" was completed. Also it extended to 84m(28尺) during the reign of King Jeongjo(1774~1800). Following these process of extension and reduction, the length was standardized as 72m(24尺) at the reign of King Sunjo(1800~1834). These facts explains that the main cause of plane change at the Jeongjagak was acceptance of functions that was used as space for the dead king's coffin. Also, the important points of change at the Jeongjagak were the first year of King Sukjong, the 33th year of King Youngjo and the first year of King Sunjo. When it was the first year of King Sukjong and the 33th year of King Youngjo, there were two national funerals. Because of concern about the increasing labor and tax of the nation, the scale of the Jeongjagak was changed to decreasing size. Due to the improvement of drawings and annotation on a Eugwe(儀軌) at the first year of King Sunjo, the size of Jeongjagak was standardized.

  • The aim of this study is to suggest the quantitative standard of a marginal village. For the purpose, the study selected 43 villages with the population of 50 or less, the classification of a marginal village in accordance with advanced research and 47 villages with the population over 50 in Buyeo-gun region. The common reason of occurrence of a marginal village suggested by advanced research is a characteristic of a village or decline and extinction of a village rather than a simple index of population or aging rate. Therefore, the study assumed that decline of functions of the village would be caused by decline a function of communities consisting of the villagers. The study then assumed that the relatively low or 0 number or rate of participants would result in community functions. The study conducted t-test on basis of population and aging rate and an analysis to find the range with relatively large differences in the number of communities, participants and the rate of the participants, etc. The result showed that the community function began to decline when the population was less than 60~70 and the aging rate over 75%~85%. As the decline of functions of communities began in population of 70, the critical point was met when the population was 40 or less. With population of 40 or less, the young and the old group communities became extinct or showed rapid decrease in the number of participants. The study assumed that decline of functions of a village, a reason of occurrence of a marginal village would be decline of functions of communities, but there was no further analysis on decline or extinction of a village with population of 40 or less. There shall be further studies about whether a village of population of 40 or less is led to decline of a function or extinction of village communities.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine how the cultural aspects of the publication of literary collections have been changed from its time throughout the entire Joseon Dynasty. At the royal court in the early Joseon Dynasty, the need for publication of the literary collections has consistently arisen to preserve writings of the noted sages, and the Joseon government was also taking the lead and promoting the publication of the literary collections. From the 16th to the early 18th century, the publication was intensively made at the local governments led by local governors. From the 17th to the early to middle of the 18th century, the finances of local governments were limited with the changed taxation system, and there had been a dramatic decrease in the number of literary publication projects. On the other hand, with the sudden increase of the number of Seowons during the reign of King Sukjong, the focus of the literary publication was moved to Seowon from the 18th to the 19th century. After the enforcement of the Seowon Abolition Decree, the collections were still published at Seowons, however from the end of 19th century, the publication of literary collections had been explosively made by aristocrats who did not belong to the institution of Seowon or could not receive Seowon's support, which spreaded over the entire Yangban culture.

  • Recently, the search for the whereabout of the huge Bell Imperial-Dragon-Temple becomes a great issue. If it happens to be found out and ringing at the original location of the Bell in Kyungjoo City, the Bell might be a great national treasure and lasting to the eternity with her beautiful sound. The Bell was so huge that the total weight of the raw material put into crucibles was 497,581 Kun (289 tons), the shoulder weight 10.3 Chuk (3.14 m) and the maximum thickness 9 Chon (27.4 cm). The Bell was erected in 754 in Shilla Dynasty and was assumed to be lost during the war time by the 3rd invasion of Mongolians (1235~8). However, the author found out that the huge Bell was recast into a new small Bell (8.1 ton) in 1103 by the people of Koryu Dynasty and then the new small Bell was hung in the same position as in the original huge Bell. 135 years later, the new small Bell was carried out by Mongolian forces as a spoil of war from Kyungjoo to the Bay Tonghaegoo, through the saddle point of Mountain Toham, Yangbuk and Riber Great Bell. At the bay, Mongolian forces wished to bring back the Bell to Mongolia by a ship, but they dropped the Bell into the sea by accident. So, if this was the case, the bell at the seabed may be the new small bell (7.4 ton) but not the original huge Bell (41.0 ton) For the evaluation of missing data of the two bells, the author sets up two equations relating all the dimensions and their weights, which seems to be a useful guide to the design of bells. The results of the evaluation of the Bells are as follows. The huge Bell The new small Bell Weight 41.0 ton 7.4 ton Shoulder ht. 3.14 m 2.07 m Mouth diameter 2.468 m 1.546 m Max. thickness 27.4 cm (9 Chon) 11.9 cm (3.9 Chon)

  • In order to assess the possibility in utilizing the rice soybean paste(rice Doenjang) powder as food processing materials, the quality of pork cutlet sauce added with 0, 1, 3, 5, and 7%(w/w) of rice soybean paste powder was investigated. Viscosity of pork cutlet sauce ranged from 584 to 776 cP as soybean paste powder amounts increased. Lightness, redness and yellowness of pork cutlet sauce decreased with increasing rice soybean paste powder. Approximate composition of pork cutlet sauces containing rice soybean powder was $62.1\sim73.0%$ of moisture, $3.2\sim7.6%$ of crude protein $0.2\sim0.5%$ of crude fat $1.5\sim2.3%$ of crude fiber and $9.9\sim12.2%$ of crude ash. In sensory evaluation, the pork cutlet sauces added with 1% and 3% soybean paste powder showed more acceptable scores than market sauce.

  • In order to clarify the growth characteristic and Brix degree at different internodes, four varieties that are M81E 71-1, a Rio, a Sart and a Tamurama were seeded on, Apr. 5, Apr. 15, Apr. 25, May 5 and May 15, respectively. Delayed seeding increased plant hight and the growth pattern of the stem diameter and weight was tapesed off and lighted to upper location. Brix degree of internode was rapidly increased from just after heading date, and was slowly increased by rising upper side till before heading date. Brix degree of middle location(6th internode) was the highest of the stem in after heading date and interior side was the lowest. Brix percentage of 40∼45 days after heading had more than 15% in case of being seeded from Apr. 5 to May 5. Sweet sorghum that was seeded on May 15 was more than 17% in the Brix percentage of 35 days after heading and so the suitable seeding date in sourthern district was suggested on May 5. The plethora of soil moisture by rainfall was made decently lower Brix degree in 130∼140 days after seeding. Among the length and the diameter of internode, and Brix degree had negative correlation, between diameter and weight of internode were significantly positive correlation. But correlation coefficient had been a little bit different by varieties.

  • The purpose of this study is to define criteria for landscape restoration of palace gardens. The case study on Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung was used not only to evaluate effectiveness of the criteria, but also to propose solutions to issues of current restoration process of both palace gardens. Following three pairs of different concepts were chosen as criteria to determine on the original form: Diachrony vs. Synchrony, Originality vs. Contemporary Characteristics, and Invariance vs. Deformability. Gyeongbokgung has been restored based on its contemporary characteristics of Year 1888 and the main focus is on its architectural features rather than both architecture and landscape. However, in-depth complementary work on landscape restoration is necessary to restore its originality in Year 1395 such as analyzing photos of Gyeongbokgung taken in modern era. In case of Changdeokgung, we analyzed separately by region or landmark such as Jondeok-Pavilion(尊德亭), Yeonkyung-Hall(演慶堂), and Okryu-Stream(玉流川). Original form of Jondeok-Pavilion Area was changed in 1884. Since diachronic invariance that lasted for 240 years is more important criterion than its contemporary characteristics, it should be restored as how it was painted in Donggwoldo(東闕圖). In Yeonkyung-Hall Area, both original characteristics at the time of Hyomyung Crown Prince and contemporary characteristics of Emperor Kojong Era appear. Therefore, different solution is required for such area to be restored appropriately. Starting from era of King Injo(1636), diachrony and invariance of Okryu-Stream Area were continued throughout the era of King Sukjong and King Jeongjo(1800). It is more than 250 years before Okryu-Stream Area was altered under the rule of Emperor Kojong in 1884. In fact, alterations made to Okryu-Stream Area after 1884 doesn't hold much significance. Therefore, water landscape of Okryu-Stream Area, which was altered in the era of Emperor Kojong, needs to be restored based on Donggwoldo.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of retardent Paclobutrazol on the seed quality factors such as oil content, protein content and fatty acid composition in peanut cv. Saeddle(early variety) and Napung(medium variety). The results are summarized as follows : Oil content of seed was appeared to increase when Paclobutrazol was applied and especially it was remarkably increased at 120 ppm-90 DAS both in varieties. Even though protein content showed a little increase at 120 ppm-70 DAS in early variety and 120 ppm -90 DAS in medium variety, however, it was decreased in most case. Saturated fatty acids such as palmitic and stearic acid was reduced by Paclobutrazol treatment but unsaturated fatty acids such as oleic, linoleic, eicosenoic and eicosadienoic acid was tended to increase in early variety while palmitic acid was increased in medium variety but linoleic acid reduced and no change was observed in oleic acid content.
