In this study, we proposed a learning-centered DIY mathematics instruction for students to actively design instructions and developed important competencies. The research problems of this study were as follows. First, how did learning-centered DIY mathematics instruction affect math academic achievement? Second, how did learning-centered DIY mathematics instruction affect the affective domain? Third, what was the reaction of students to the implementation of the learning-centered DIY mathematics instruction? For this purpose, this study was conducted with 58 students in 2 classes of 2nd grade of 00 High School located in 00 Metropolitan City. As a result of the study, first, it could be seen that the study group that taught the learning-centered DIY mathematics instruction was very helpful in the change of mathematics academic achievement compared to the comparative group who taught the explanatory instruction based on traditional textbooks. Second, the research group showed a significant improvement in the affective domain compared to the comparison group. Third, the responses of the students in the research group through the learning-centered DIY mathematics instruction improved in a positive direction, and there were some negative responses.
Large-scale international comparison studies for a decade have shown Korean students' negative affective constructs and engagement. In addition to this general finding, this research aimed to provide details in Korean students' affective constructs and engagement. With the latent profile analysis, we found five groups of individuals showing qualitatively different characteristics in their affective constructs and engagement. Particularly, it is required to pay more attentions to two groups with relatively negative views on engaging teaching in mathematics lessons. The findings in this research suggested that different approaches could be required to improve affective constructs and engagement in each group. This necessitated further research on achievement and influential factors on each group's characteristics of affective constructs and engagement.
Despite the trend of the times and the government's efforts to implement policies, a number of students, having difficulties in learning math, are still growing. Reflecting this, many studies related to underachiever of learning mathematics were conducted in the field of mathematics education. Most of these studies, however, were intended to find the cause of underachievers of learning mathematics or experimental studies that applied the specific teaching procedures to the underachievers of learning mathematics and found their effectiveness in terms of academic achievement, compared it beforehand. Thus, in this study, 49 studies, from including theses and published journal papers from 2001, were meta-analyzed to find out how effective the teaching treatment for underachievers of learning mathematics has improved academic performance. As a result of this analysis, we found that teaching treatment generally have moderate effect sizes for children with having difficulties in learning mathematics. It was also possible to analyze the effect of various interventions and to obtain some suggestions on which circumstances the greatest effect could be achieved. Teaching treatments for underachiever of learning mathematics could have greater effectiveness in elementary school level, institution certified testing tool was used, targeted for each individual, taught by peer student, lasted for at least 8 weeks, and using teaching aids and ICT tools.

The goal of this thesis was to examine the effects of applying meta-problems to elementary school mathematics class In their achievements, beliefs and attitudes. To achieve this goal the following research questions were asked. a. What effects does the class applied with meta-problem have on students' mathematical achievements? b. What effects does the class applied with meta-problem have on students' mathematical beliefs and attitudes? To answer questions, an experimental study was designed and conducted. The subjects were 6th-grade students at S Elementary School located in Dobong-Gu, Seoul where the researcher teaches. Among them, the class that the researcher teach was chosen as the experimental group. During the experimental study, a teaching-learning with meta-problems was applied to the experimental group and a teaching-learning with general problems was applied to the comparative group. To examine changes in the mathematical achievements of the experimental group and the comparative group, a post-test of mathematical achievements was conducted and the results were t-tested. As well, to find answers to the second research question, a pre-test and a post-test of mathematical beliefs and attitudes were conducted on the experimental group and the results were t-tested. The results of this study were as follows First, the experimental group which was taught applying meta-problems got higher mathematical achievement than the comparative group. Second, the class with meta-problems did not bring significant changes in students' mathematical beliefs and attitudes. Synthesizing the study results above, a teaching-learning with meta-problems is a teaching-learning method that can accommodate problem solving naturally in school mathematics and give a positive effect on students' mathematical achievements.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of the results of a nationwide academic evaluation of middle schools and high schools on apartment prices in Ulsan City by using a hedonic pricing model. The results of the middle school and high school achievement test, the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) score for high school, the national united evaluation score, and the number of successful applicants to prestigious universities have a significant effect on the apartment price formation with a positive relationship. In addition, different kinds of academic evaluation score have asymmetric effects on apartment price determination. The results of the high school achievement evaluation are more important than the results of the middle school achievement evaluation in the apartment price determination. Among the achievement evaluation results, the ratio of the students with the higher education level is more important than the ratio of the students with the lower basic education level. Furthermore, the CSAT score for Natural Sciences is more important than the CSAT score for the Humanities course.
This paper aims to explore what we can improve in the curriculum, teaching-learning, and evaluation on the bases of the analyses of multiple-choice items set in National Assessment of Educational Achievement. For this goal, by using the distribution curves of the responses percentages, we will grasp the features of educational achievement which appear to students through an in-depth analysis about not only item itself but also the contents included in particular distracters. These analyses provide more information than the descriptive statistical values such as the mean of correct answer percentage and the discrimination of whole group and the mean of responses percentages of replies of subgroups. Because the distribution curves of the responses percentages reveal the transition from the lowest to the highest educational achievement very well. From these analyses we acquire the implications about the concept of prime factor or prime factorization, ratio(proportion) such as velocity, linear function, volume of cone, properties of solid figure, and probabilities of empty event and total event.
In this paper, we obtain the step inteaching high school leve-based class utilizing cooperative learning lessons using level-type tutoring to improve academic achievement and mathematics attitudes. The details are as follows. First, we develop the teaching and learning model for the level-type instructional development and for the application to project work. Second, we seek to height academic achievement by applying the level-type work sheets in conjunction with cooperative learning. For this problem, we will focus on the following issues. First, how will you using level-type tutoring level TAI cooperative learning in order to improve academic achievement and develop the learning ability in mathematics? Second, how can you step utilizing TAI instructional level of cooperative learning in mathematics classes to improve mathematics learning attitudes? Third, how will you some reaction step work sheets utilizing level TAI cooperative learning of students for mathematics. Results of this study are as follows. First, in the experimental group compared to the comparison group was improved academic achievement. Second, in the experimental group compared to the comparison group learning attitudes could help. Third, the level of cooperative learning instructional model utilizing the TAI in the experimental group compared to the comparison group represents a significant response was seen.
This study examined Korean fourth-grade students' performance by gender on the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study(TIMSS) 2011 and 2015 mathematics assessment. We first identified items which had significantly higher mean scores by gender to decide which gender did better on a certain domain(domain-level analysis). Then, we examined the content of items(item-level analysis) to understand which items lead to gender differences in mathematics achievement. Our findings showed that about 80% of the items on both assessments did not show statistically significant differences between males and females. However, there were meaningful gender differences in the other 20% items. On both assessments, females had more items with significantly higher mean scores than males on the Shapes domain, and males had more those items on the Numbers and Measurement domains and all cognitive domains(Knowing, Applying, and Reasoning). In particular, females outperformed males on items related to identifying two- and three-dimensional shapes and drawing lines and angles and identifying them. Conversely, males had higher performance than females on items related to the pre-algebraic thinking, fractions and decimals, estimation of number differences, unit of length, and measuring time, height, and volume. The effect sizes for each item ranged from .12 to .33 and the mean effect size of all items across both assessments was .20, which indicated significant gender differences but small.
Now, most of programs developed were presented as form of item pool by dividing problems by section and level for the level differentiated course, so the utilization is decreasing at the field caused by unconsidered school underachievement elements by achievement. Especially, the study on teaching materials and effective measures map for mid-low level students with low utilization is more urgent. Therefore, in this study we will promote teaching method for improving learning achievement at high school. The development teaching materials(the performance evaluation and diagnostic assessment, reconstruction of textbooks) will be applied to classes for the underachieving students directly, and the achievement in the experimental class was significantly improved compared to the comparative class and the meaningful conclusions could be drawn as results of conducting same assessment based on the experimental class and the comparative class.

This research is for acquiring implications to science education based on learner's characteristics by analyzing the relationship between contents on science learning and cognitive domain of students in elementary schools through TIMSS 2011-based academic achievement test. Forty one multiple choice items from by TIMSS 2011 were used on 317 primary school students, fourth to sixth grade, and according to grade and achievement level of research targets, test results were analyzed. With these data, the relationship between contents on science learning and the score by cognitive domains, and through correlation by items, we drew static and negative correlations, and then compared the value. The result are as follows: First, other fields except for 'physical science' and 'inference' revealed meaningful differences by learners' grade, and the interrelationship between all contents domains and cognitive fields also appeared statically different. Second, both achievement level of contents and cognition of learners presented significant differences, but the correlation between scientific contents and cognitive field of learners showed different aspects. Third, in static and negative correlation by items, the complexity and their aspects could be classified by targets' academic achievement levels.
