An analytical solution of one dimensional mild slope equation is derived by use of the WKB method, which has a form similar to Porter's solution(2003). The present solution is so general in the sense of application that it is comparable to the corresponding numerical solutions. In the derivation we also presented the solution of refraction equation in terms of surface displacement. Some numerical results of the present solution by use of Bremmer's method are presented which agree with existing numerical solutions.

A numerical method of the CSF(Continuum Surface Force) model is presented for the calculation of the surface tension force and implemented in an in-house solution code(PowerCFD). The present method(code) employs an unstructured cell-centered method based on a conservative pressure-based finite-volume method with volume capturing method(CICSAM) in a volume of fluid(VOF) scheme for phase interface capturing. The application of the present method to a 2-D liquid drop problem is illustrated by an equilibrium and nonequilibrium oscillating drop calculation. It is found that the present method simulates efficiently and accurately surface tension-dominant multiphase flows.
In this study, Class II behavior of rock failure process under uniaxial and biaxial compression has been numerically simulated using bonded particle model. Class II behavior of rock was simulated by radial strain controlled uniaxial and biaxial compression tests using a suggested method of ISRM. Micro-parameters used in the simulation were determined based on the laboratory uniaxial compression tests carried out at ${\"{A}}sp{\"{o}}$ Hard Rock Laboratory, Sweden. Class II behavior of ${\"{A}}sp{\"{o}}$ rock was effectively simulated using newly proposed numerical technique in this study, and the results of numerical simulations show good similarity with the complete stress-strain curves for Class II behavior obtained from the laboratory tests.
Existing cut-and-cover tunnels are designed regardless of cut-slope under the assumption that the overburden weight of backfill soil acts on tunnel arch and the earth pressure at rest acts on tunnel walls. However, actual earth pressures acting on the tunnel lining depend on open-cut size composed of cut-slope and cut-width, and thus the tunnel lining shows a different structural behavior. This study investigated the effect of cut-slope on structural behavior of the cut-and-cover tunnel lining as follows; Firstly, a comprehensive numerical analysis method using FLAC2D code was used and verified by field measurements of tunnel profile. Secondly, based on the verified numerical analysis technique, earth pressure acting on the lining, and displacement and sectional force developed on the lining were estimated with various shapes of cut-slopes$30^{\circ}\;, 456{\circ},\; 60^{\circ},\; and\;75^{\circ}%). Numerical analysis results indicate that the steeper cut-slope shows the more displacement and moment of the tunnel lining.

To analyze incident waves traveling from the deep ocean is very important in that it is based on resolving problems occurred in coastal areas. In general, numerical models and analytical solutions are used to analyze wave transformation. Although a numerical model can be applied to various bottoms and wave conditions, it may have some cumbersome numerical errors. On the other hand, an analytical solution has an advantage of obtaining the solution quickly and accurately without numerical errors. The analytical solution can, however, be utilized only for specific conditions. In this study, the analytical solution of the mild-slope equation has been developed. It can be applied to various conditions combing a numerical technique and an analytical approach while minimizing the numerical errors. As a result of comparing the obtained solutions in this study with those of the previously developed numerical model, A good agreement was observed.

The present study aims to numerically investigate the behavior of liquid droplet driven by capillarity force imbalance on horizontal surfaces ranging from hydrophilic to hydrophobic, under various conditions. The droplet behavior has been simulated using an in-house solution code(PowerCFD), which employs an unstructured cell-centered method based on a conservative pressure-based finite-volume method with interface capturing method(CICSAM) in a volume of fluid(VOF) scheme for phase interface capturing. The detailed droplet behavior was obtained under various conditions for droplets with different initial shapes, contact angles and surface tension forces(or Bond number). The mechanism of droplet transport was examined using the numerical results on the droplet shapes.
This paper shows the analytic error caused by the inconsistency of the approximation order between the non local boundary condition (NLBC) and the parabolic governing equation. To obtain the analytic error, we first transform the NLBC to the half space domain using plane wave analysis. Then, the analytic error is derived on the boundary between the true numerical domain and the half space domain equivalent to the NLBC. The derived analytic error is physically expressed as the artificial reflection. We examine the characteristic of the analytic error for the grazing angle, the approximation order of the PE or the NLBC. Our main contribution is to present the analytic method of error estimation and the application limit for the high order parabolic equation and the NLBC.
Error analysis of finite difference equation on the Muskingum-Cunge flood routing method with free time and space weighting factor was carried out. The error analysis shows that the numerical solution of the Muskingum-Cunge method becomes diverged with time when the sum of time weighting factor and space weighting factor is greater than 1.0. Numerical diffusion increases when the sum of time weighting factor and space weighting factor decreases. Numerical diffusion and numerical oscillation increase when the grid resolution is coarse. Numerical experiments and field applications show that the Muskingum-Cunge method with free space weighting factor is more effective for simulating the flood routing with great peak diminution than conventional Muskingum-Cunge method with fixed space weighting factor, 0.5.
The two dimensional time dependent flow past a circular cylinder is analyzed numerically. In the analysis, equations of conservation of mass and momentum are transformed to equations of stream function-vorticity and vorticity transport, and nondimensionalized by nondimensional parameters representing flow characteristics, The resulting stream function-vorticity equstion and vorticity transport equation are solved by successive over relaxation scheme and alternating direct implicit scheme. Numerical experments are performed for the flow in the range of Reynolds number 125 to 275. The time dependent streamlines, vorticities, pressure on cylinder surface, separation angle, and drag and lift coefficients are calculated, and the method for estimation of pressure on cylinder surface and the outer boundary limit are developed.
