  • This paper deals with a design of observer based fault detection filter for a boiler-turbine control system. The goal is to present a method for rapid sensor fault detection in order to enhance the reliability of boiler-turbine operation in the thermal power plant. Our fault detection filter can be designed via solutions of linear matrix inequalities. In order to demonstrate the efficacy of our design method, numerical simulations are provided.

  • Solar cells are considered ideal as a clean energy to generate electricity. However, silicon-based photoelectric cells show some shortcomings in efficiency, cost and reliability. This has been a barrier to further commercialization. This paper shows how 40 Inventive Principles can be used in the research and development on the solar cells to improve efficiency, cost and reliability.

QoL에 의한 정보형 중도탈락의 모형화 (Modelling the Informative Dropouts with QoL)

  • This paper proposes a method of modelling the informative dropouts with QoL(quality of life) in survival analysis. QoL is the index to measure the health related quality of life of a patient who got some treatments for a disease. Dropouts are prevalent occurrences on longitudinal study They are commonly dependent to the QoL of patients, that is, severe disease or death and called informative dropouts. Modelling the mechanism of dropouts could achieve the more accurate inference for survival analysis. A likelihood method is proposed to estimate the survival parameter and test the patterns of dropouts.

홍삼의 품질개선을 위한 감마선 이용 (Application of Gamma Irradiation for Quality Improvement of Red Ginseng)

  • Gamma irradiation was applied to red ginseng for improving its quality. Irradiation at 5~7 kGy was effective for sterilizing all contaminated microorganisms of red ginseng. At the dose levels, no significant shanges in physicochemical properties (color, saponin, lipid rancidity and fatty acids etc.) were observed even after 6 months storage. Gamma irradiation was also effective for the improving hygienic quality of packed red ginseng with high moisture content (up to 20%), without any quality deterioration.

  • This study was conducted to prepare some information about food poisoning outbreaks in Korea. In this study, all reported data were reviewed, but the data during recent ten years (1977-1986) were mainly analyzed because of data shortage. We used three year moving averages in order to investigate the trend to food poisoning outbreaks, by year, foodborne pathogens, specific foods, and place food contaminated or mishandled.

Pseudomonas sp.에 의한Benzoate의 생분해 (Biodegradiation of Benzoate by Pseudomonas sp.)

  • The biodegradation of high concentration of benzoate by enrichment culture with Pseudomonas sp. was investigated. During 50 days continuous culture, average of removal rate of benzoate and COD were 90% and 83%, respectively. And the enzymatic activity of catechol 2,3-dioxygenase was determined in the continuous culture but not Catechol 1,2-dioxygenase. On the other hand, Pseudomonas sp in the culture was investigated with SEM and the result was revealed that the cell shape was more demage according concentration of benzoate.

  • Effect of allylisothiocyanate on the enzyme activites including malate degydrogenase, isocitrate dehydrogenase, NADPH and acetyl CoA which were related to aflatoxin production of Aspergillus parasticus R-716 were invetigated. The activities of malate dehydrogenase (EC.1.1.1.37), isocitrate dehydrogenase (E.C.1.1.1.42) and NADPH oxidase (E.C.1.6.99.1) indicated relatively high in the 50 ppm allylisothiocyanate-added-culture. In contrast, the activity of acetyl CoA in the 50 ppm allylisothiocyanate-added-culture showed rather lower level through the cultivation.
