The Present and Future of Service Science (서비스학의 현재와 미래)

  • This study analyzes the past and present of service science research as a central discipline that will lead a new economy and society, and presents a guide for future research. In the 21st century, service research has developed into a new discipline that is different from the existing service studies. Service science is a discipline that collectively refers to all research related to services. This study analyzes this development process and suggests the direction of future service science research. First, we analyze the research before the birth of service science, an early model of service studies. And the early research on the birth of service science is analyzed. Through this process, the service science framework that expanded and developed the initial service science is analyzed. We introduce each field of service science, which is a new innovation of the existing academic system from a modern perspective, and analyzes the structure of the service philosophy that is the basis of independent academic fields. And we suggest the future direction of service science research. The direction of paradigm innovation research of existing individual disciplines is presented first. As an example, innovation from existing business administration to service business administration is introduced. We also suggest a new economic and social system research direction that requires the convergence of multiple academic fields. Finally, we present a direction for multidimensional, broad-based convergence research. We suggest that the future of service science can be the process of reverting back to integration and convergence, centered on humans and the world, of the disciplines that have continued to diverge in the history. We present a model in which all disciplines are reintegrated into service science as the Eastern and Western spirits converge.

A Suggestion on the New Service Research Framework (서비스연구의 프레임워크 제안)

  • The current research suggests a new service research framework for service researchers and practitioners. A comprehensive and streamlined research framework is essential for rapid growth of service industry with support of academic researches. An in-depth analysis on relevant service research fremeworks and major research issues on service sector and service nature has been performed. Past and present research frameworks on service sector have been reviewed based on the nature of service and the desirability for service industry development. A new research framework has been derived and a five-section model has been suggested. The results of this research can be used for finding useful research topics in service sector. Future research is needed to develop service research as a solid and major academic field in the new economy.

A Design of Service Science Degree Program (서비스학 학위과정 프로그램개발 연구)

  • In this study, we conducted an exploratory study for designing service science as a degree program that will lead the 21st century. In the new era, the convergence of industries is accelerating and the mobility of the profession is greatly increased, so the talents to be trained in higher education will be greatly changed. We must cultivate human resources capable of creating their own jobs through competency development and cultivate talented individuals who can demonstrate creative initiative in the ecosystem where the boundaries between industries are dismantled. To this end, it is required to switch from the existing vertical majors and systems to horizontal majors, and service majors are expected to play a key role in this transition. In this study, we designed the service science degree program reflecting the changes of the new economy and reflecting the demand of the new education. The service science curriculum provides an analysis as it can award a degree as an independent major, or may serve as a sub-major or an associate major with existing majors. Service studies are expected to play the most effective role in cultivating the capabilities defined by the 21st century human resources in the World Economic Forum.

A Future Study Agenda Applying Service Research Framework (서비스 연구 프레임워크 관점에서의 향후 연구과제)

  • The importance of service science is emphasized in the modern economy, and the value and necessity of service research still increasing. Since the service research framework was proposed, it has been studied from various perspectives and incorporated into one framework--service research. The direction of service research has been established and a new baseline of research has been established. However, the modern economic and social environment could be described as a new era, the Fourth Industrial Revolution has changed drastically. More and more systematic research on services has become necessary. Therefore, this study analyzed the field of service research in the existing framework. The study suggested how service research could broaden the horizon of service research by studying the 'what'. To do this, we analyzed recent service research trends by themes. We also identified the shortcomings of previous studies about service, and suggested directions and research themes for future research. Based on this study we developed a general approach to the creation of new models from the viewpoint of service science. The authors were also able to develop a general approach to areas such as service innovation, service inference, service solution, and service design leverage. In addition, it is necessary to extend service research and business model to the utilization of service technology. This approach could contribute to forming the basis of future service development, and to utilize social media to create new value of innovative company. The results of this study could contribute to deepening and expanding service research.

Introduction of Service Science for Sustainable Development (지속가능발전을 위한 서비스학의 도입)

  • Humanity's sustainability issues have long been discussed, and the World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED) in 1987 proposed the concept of sustainable development and became a global issue. In September 2015, we announced the latest goals for sustainable development at the UN's 70th General Assembly to address social problems and achieve mature economic growth. In order to achieve social, economic and environmental sustainability goals, parallel development of various disciplines is required. However, existing disciplines are limited in supporting sustainable development due to inherent nature. This study proposes to revitalize service science research as a way to overcome limitations of existing studies, and suggests that sustainable development goals can be achieved through convergence with service science and existing disciplines. Modern economic societies need the evolutionary development of individual disciplines because the paradigm shifts from the existing tangible environment to the intangible environment, the boundary between industries is dismantled, and the boundaries between disciplines disappear. In particular, sustainable development goals require a convergent approach, so convergence service science research is useful. In this study, we analyze economics, business administration, pedagogy, sociology which are representative of related to sustainable development and suggest the necessity of introduction of service science. Through this study, the development of service science and interdisciplinary research in existing academic fields will be activated.

A Study on the Information Use Behaviors of Researchers in the Field of Business Administration for Improving Information Services (정보서비스 개선을 위한 경영학분야 연구자의 정보이용행태에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze researchers' information use behaviors in the field of business administration in order to provide library services based on user information needs. The methods of this study targeted the members of K Society in the business administration field, and employed user survey using a web-based questionnaire. A total of 202 users answered the questionnaire. The questionnaire focused on items such as by age and status, general information use, electronic resources use, SNS and mobile services information use, library and information center use, and specialized business administration library use. The results of this study suggested improving several library services.

Trends Analysis of Children's Services Research in the Field of Library and Information Science (문헌정보학 분야 어린이서비스 연구의 현황과 과제)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the trends of children's services research in Korea. A total of 113 research articles were selected from 4 journals in Library and Information Science. Articles were analyzed in the aspects of research subjects, research methods, author types, and research funds. The writer discussed the problems shown in the articles and suggested some recommendations for the development of research.

  • This study was conducted with the purpose of providing suggestions for improvement through a comparison and analysis of the services of the U.S. National Library of Medicine, the world's largest medical library, and the National Center for Medical Information and Knowledge, Korea's national medical library. Core services that need to be improved are topic-specific services, community services, services by user type, educational services, technology, facility/space services, research support services, and marketing and public relations and cooperation services. Specialized libraries are also increasingly interested in topic-specific services and public services. Efficiency in access through services for each type of user is needed, and various types of educational services that do not limit the target audience are also needed. Marketing through AI, virtual reality, and technology, facility, and space services to support the disabled, research support services centered on research ethics, research grants, and programs, and collaborative services with domestic and international libraries, academic societies, institutions, and local communities in other related fields and publicity are also needed.

U-health 서비스 구축을 위한 온톨로지 관리기 및 서비스 브로커의 설계

  • 유비쿼터스 건강관리를 가능하게 하는 U-health의 중요성이 부각됨에 따라 다양한 U-health 서비스들이 개발, 제공 되고 있다. 하지만 대부분의 서비스들이 제한적이고 독립적으로 구성되어 있어서 다른 서비스와의 연동을 통한 폭넓은 서비스의 제공이 어렵다. 이러한 서비스 연동을 위해서는 U-health 데이터 및 단위 서비스를 체계적으로 관리하고, 맞춤형 U-health 서비스 개발에 필요한 단위 서비스 검색 방법이 필요하다. 이 논문에서는 온톨로지를 이용하여 U-health 데이터 및 서비스들을 체계적으로 명세하고 관리하기 위한 방법과, 온톨로지 정보를 이용하여 의미적으로 서비스를 검색할 수 있도록 하는 서비스 브로커링 방법을 제안한다. 그리고 이를 활용해 스트레스 관리 U-health 서비스를 구축한 사례를 설명한다.
