The Effect of Histamine on Polymorphonuclear Leukocyte-induced Pneumocyte Injury in Vitro (다형핵구에 의한 폐포세포 손상에 Histamine이 미치는 영향)

  • Background: Although polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) are important in protecting the airways and alveolar surfaces, there is evidence that they can also injure the lung while exercising their defensive role. However it has been unclear whether PMN-induced pneumocyte injury is mediated by their direct cytotoxic effect on target cells or by PMN-derived cytotoxic mediators. On the other hand histamine was known not only to act as an important chemical mediator participated in the pathogenesis of some atotic and allegic disorders, but also to have an inhibitory effect on normal PMN functions. Method: To study the mechanism by which PMN induce pneumocyte injury, we cocultured PMN from four healthy nonsmokers or their PMN-derived supernatants (PMN-SPN) with monolayers of $^{51}Cr$-labeled human A549 pneumocytes and compared PMN-and PMN-SPN-mediated pneumocyte injuries measured by $^{51}Cr$ release assay. We also compared the effects of histamine on each pneumocyte injury. Results: 1) PMN-SPN showed more injurious effect on A549 pneumocytes than that of PMN itself regardless histamine pretreatment of PMN. 2) Pneumocyte injury by PMN with histamine pretreatment was increased or decreased compared with that by PMN without histamine pretreatment, according to histamine concentrations, and PMN stimulating agents and their concentrations. 3) Pneumocyte injury by PMN-SPN with histamine pretreatment tended to be decreased compared with that by PMN-SPN without histamine pretreatment. Conclusion: Our results suggest that PMN-SPN may play more important role in mediating pneumocyte injury than PMN itself and that histamine may partially play a protective role on PMN-induced pneumocyte injury. Alternatively we conclude that the effects of histamine on PMN-induced pneumocyte injury may be affected by microenvironment in vivo.

A Decomposition Analysis of Energy Productivity Change in Korean Manufacturing Industries: A Distance Function Approach (제조업 에너지 생산성 분해분석)

  • This paper decomposed energy productivity changes across 14 Korean manufacturing industries into 5 components, technological catch-up(EC), technological progress(TC), and changes in labor-energy ratio(LC), capital-energy ratio(KC) and energy mix(EMC). Then we also figured out the possible relationship between energy productivity change and export growth rate across the industries. It is found that (1) technological progress, changes in capital-energy ratio and energy mix contribute to energy productivity growth in Korea during the sample period, (2) technological progress is the primary driving forces for energy productivity growth, (3) increase in export growth rate had a positive impact on energy productivity growth excepting a part of energy-intensive industries.

  • In the Korean electricity supply structure, the role of nuclear power generation is essential. But, the delaying of radioactive waste management program induces negative impact to the stable electricity supply. Despite the continuing endeavors of Korean Government and nuclear power industry, radioactive waste management program of Korea is experiencing a continuing setback. In this background, the study examined the past and current policy and recommends that; Long term safety assurance should be the prime objective of radioactive waste management; Siting process should be transparent and opened to the public with the involvement of safety regulatory authority; A new neutral organization which has no conflicts of interest with any other existing organizations should be established to coordinate and manage the R&D programs.

Seasonal Variations of Particulate Biogenic Silica in the Nakdong River Estuary (낙동강 하구역 입자성 유기 규소의 계절적 변화)

  • Particulate biogenic silica (PBSi), diatom abundance and dissolved silicate were measured in the Nakdong River estuary from March, 1991 to April, 1992. The PBSi concentrations were in the range of 0.40∼11.45 ug-at/l with being relatively high in spring and fall. The concentrations were higher in inner Bay than in outer Bay. In vertical profiles, the concentrations showed maximum in the surface layer, decreasing with depth, and then increased slightly in the bottom layer. the PBPi concentrations were related with diatom abundances, but the relatively high ratios of PBSi concentrations were related with diatom abundances, but the relatively high ratios of PBPi to diatom abundance (ca.500 pgSi$.$cell/SUP -1/) suggest that there be much detrital PBSi. The source of dissolved silicate was the Nakdong River discharge and the dissolved silicate does not seem to be a limiting factor of diatom growth due to relatively high concentration during the study period. the silicate concentrations in the bottom layer seem to be related with the PBSi concentrations existed just before the sampling time in addition to river discharge. Relatively low ratios of PBSi to POC (average 0.2 gSi$.$gC/SUP -1/) and relatively high ratios of POC to chlorophyll a (ca. 900) suggest that much detrital POC comprise the total POC.

Position of Stop Line according to the Left Turn Trajectory at Intersection (교차로 좌회전 궤적에 따른 정지선 위치에 관한 연구)

  • Position of stop line according to left turn trajectory at intersections was studied. The Purpose of this study is to suggest a design guideline of left turn trajectory at intersections which is related to the Position of cross road stop line. Distance from the curb line to the stop line at each lane was calculated and discussed for various combination of road widths. Three design vehicle type and three control radii were considered. Setbacks of stop line from the curb line are Proportional to the control radius which depends on type of design vehicle. 8m, lim and 19m setback for control radius of 12m, 15m and 23m were calculated respectively as their maximum value. This result will be helpful to Paint the road marking on the Pavement which is usually difficult to fit to the designated radius. Field study of the effect of left turn trajectory on flow rate and safety was conducted. It was approved that improperly designed left turn trajectory decreases left turn capacity and increases conflicts among left turn flows of the adjacent lane.

  • Locative media is fundamentally different from traditional media in terms of being packed with user's space, place, and position nearby, which does not simply mean user's physical coordinates. This study has been started that I was drawn by the tendency of which current locative media contents are based on 'location-based information,' and closely related with 'Augmented Reality.' I wonder how media user's psychological experience/involvement are revealed when the media environment changes by the progress of technology. I wonder how media users perceive 'social presence' formed by locative media in current locative media environment. Particularly, the fact that user's perception of social presence formed in locative media conflicts with the previous computer-mediated communication(CMC)'s attributes deepened my curiosity. In this study, the idea of 'more-proper-construct' is suggested, the characteristics of social presence in current locative media is considered, and is investigated by qualitative methodology how the 'location-based' attributes and 'AR' contribute to forming the social presence.

  • 본(本) 거시경제모형(巨視經濟模型)은 "케인즈"적인 소득지출모형(所得支出模型)으로서, 최근 개방화 및 자율화추세에 따라 크게 변모한 경제구조하에서 예측의 정확도를 높이고 대내외여건(對內外與件) 변화(變化)에 기인한 제반 영향을 보다 명확하게 분석하기 위해서 작성되었다. 모형(模型)의 구조(構造)는 6개 부문, 162개의 방정식으로 구성되어 있으며, 70년대와 80년대의 구조변화(構造變化)를 고려하여 1982년부터 1991년까지를 추정대상 기간으로 삼았다. 기존의 KDI 분기모형과 비교할 때 본(本) 개정모형(改定模型)의 가장 두드러진 특징은 총량변수를 항목별로 세분하여 대내외여건 변화시 경제에 마치는 영향을 기존의 총량수준보다 한 단계 더 세분화된 수준에서 파악하고자 한 점이다. 또한 각종 가격변수들의 시장조절기능(市場調節機能)을 반영하기 위해서 금리(金利), 임금(賃金), 환율(換率) 등을 내생화(內生化)하였고, 총통화(總通貨)와 장기자본수지(長期資本收支) 등도 모형내에서 결정되도록 하였다. 역사적(歷史的) 시뮬레이션의 결과, 주요 내생변수의 평균자승근퍼센트오차가 5% 내외의 양호한 수준을 나타냄으로써 본(本) 모형(模型)이 80년대의 구조변화(構造變化)를 적절히 반영하고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 정책(政策)시뮬레이션은 원유 및 원자재수입가격과 같은 해외여건(海外與件) 변화(變化)와, 기타건설(其他建設), 정부소비지출(政府消費支出), 국내민간신용(國內民間信用)의 확대와 같은 정책변화(政策變化)의 두 부문으로 나누어 시행하였다. 원유 및 원자재가격의 상승은 우리 경제에 부(負)의 공급충격(供給衝擊)으로 작용함으로써 성장을 둔화시키고 물가를 상승시켰으며, SOC 투자를 포함한 기타건설(其他建設)의 증가(增加), 정부소비지출(政府消費支出),의 확대(擴大), 민간신용(民間信用)의 증가(增加)는 모두 단기적으로 경기부양의 효과는 있으나 장기적으로 물가를 더욱 상승시키는 것으로 나타나 물가(物價)와 성장(成長)이 서로 상충관계에 있는 것으로 파악되었다.

Effect of 1,3-Benzopyrone on Chemotactic Activity of Peripheral Blood Leukocytes in the Dog (1,2-benzopyrone이 개 말초혈액 백혈구의 유주활성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was undertaken to examine whether 1,2-benzopyrone affects on chemotactic activity of canine peripheral blood leukocytes. A modified Boyden chamber method was sed on chemotaxis evaluation. The direct treatments of 1,2-benzopyrone showed no ffects on the chemotaxis of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and olymorphonuclear cells (PMNs). But chemotaxis of PMN was remarkably enhanced by ulture supernatant from PBMC but not PMN treated with 1,2-benzopyrone. Similarly, it as also increased by recombinant (r) interleukin (lL)­8. This chemotactic activity of MN was inhibited by addition of anti-rIL-8 polyclonal antibody. The chemotaxis of PBMC was not enhanced by culture supernatant from either PBMC or PMN treated with 1,2-benzopyrone. Therefore, these results suggested that the chemotactic activity of PMN ay be mainly mediated by IL-8-like factor(s) produced from PBMC treated with ,2-benzopyrone.

A Survey on Public Web Service Repositories (공공 웹서비스 저장소에 대한 연구조사)

  • Web service Technology has been developing rapidly as it provides a flexible application-to-application interaction mechanism. Several ongoing research efforts focus on various aspects of Web service technology, including the modeling, specification, discovery, composition and verification of Web services. The approaches advocated are often conflicting-based as they are differing expectations on the current status of Web services as well as differing models of their future evolution. One way of deciding the relative relevance of the various research directions is to look at their applicability to the currently available Web services. To this end, we conducted a survey on currently publicly available Web service repositories. Our aim is to get an idea of the number, complexity and composability of these Web services and see if this analysis provides useful information about the near-term fruitful research directions.

A Comparison of Scientific Concepts Acquisition between Cognitive Conflict and Non-Conflict Groups in Korean Elementary Schools (초등학생의 갈등유발집단과 비갈등집단의 개념 형성 정도 및 지속 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the effect of concept formation between conflicted case and non-conflicted case as a method of learning science concepts. This study consists of 8 classes in 5th and 6th grade of elementary school children's in Kyoung-Buk, which were divided into conflicted group and non-conflicted group. The research procedure is as follows : first, two groups were asked the introducing problems-one was asked the conflicting problem, the other was asked the non-conflicting problems. Futhermore, the incorrect-answered students of conflicting problems were classified into conflict group am the correct-answered students of non-conflicting problems were classified into non-conflict group. Secondly, the demonstration and picture presentation about the introducing problems were carried out. Thirdly, the researcher introduced scientific concepts to the students. Afterwards, posttests, made up of the same items, were presented to the students-three times-posttest, delayed posttest(one week), second delayed posttest(one month). Finally, the degree of concept formation between the two groups was compared and analyzed by these results.
