This research deals with cognitive characteristics of point symbols on the current tourist maps in terms of the communication theory in considering levels of symbolization and those of preference. The levels of symbolization are examined on the basis of the meaning of point symbols between map-makers and map-users. Preferences of point symbols are investigated by the tourist objects. As a result, when point symbols are expressed in conciseness, the meaning and interpretation about those symbols are highly accorded. And the point symbols that have familiarity by visual experience are preferred. Also, the higher symbolical levels symbols have, the more likely they are preferred. Through that fact, familiarity from the visual experience, conciseness in expression, concreteness of figures expressed in maps, and representativeness of visualized properties were deduced as factors that affect preferences. Those factors work to affect preference complicatedly, but familiarity is prior to simplicity in preferences. Likewise, ways that visualize information, contents that are expressed as images and familiarity in terms of cognitive characteristics make a relative difference in preferences and the levels of symbolization. On the basis of those cognitive characteristics, visual complexity and ambiguity should be removed and the higher symbolical level of point symbols for efficiency of map-reading should be developed.

The psychology of Carl G. Jung is often called an "ancilla religionis"(servant of religion, James Heisig), by which Jung's understanding of the unconsciousness of human being as the religious one is well expressed. According to Jung the dichotomy between the consciousness and the unconsciousness of men is reconciled in the various religious symbols of the world religions. He also asserted that the religious symbols must be understood and interpreted by a symbolical way. When the religious symbols are understood literally and dogmatically, they lost their dynamic power to bring salvation to men. In this paper I try to understand the essence of the symbolical and intuitional understanding of the exclusiveness of Jesus Christ. The confession of the Christianity that only Christ, once for all, could bring the salvation to the whole humankind is to be interpreted by a symbolical and intuitional way. That means, Christ is to be understood as a always new being at every time when he is confessed as a salvator. Christ as a symbol could never be a historical past. I mentioned about the understanding of Buddha by Muneyoshi Yanagi, a Japanese Shinto Buddhist, in order to show how such a symbolical and intuitional understanding of the Christ could be possible.

The purpose of the study is to understand the symbolic meaning of jewelry. Among various characteristics of symbols, the symbolic meaning represents the correlation between meanings. Wearing jewelry is an instinctive action that can be witnessed from ancient civilizations. Man used jewelry for various purposes, as an ornament, an amulet, a symbol of wealth or power or as a token of love. In this study, I have researched the symbolic meaning of jewelry in its historic background focusing on rings that show the strongest symbolic characteristic among jewelries. Whereas the symbolic meaning of jewelry was strongly accentuated in the ancient and medieval times, it was gradually weakened in the modern time. Also, while jewelry in the ancient and medieval times showed commonness and universality, jewelry in modern time expressed individuality. Although the meaning of jewelry changed progressively by interacting with the external environment, jewelry has always roused sense and symbolism from our hearts and has acted as a means to express ideas and emotions of human beings.

The purpose of this study is analyzation of the clothing symbolism on the words of a popular music. The result shows that clothing symbolism on the popular music has a strong relationship with the periodic background. And also that represented the importance of the clothing as a symbol.
